Description

The Protekt® Aire 7000 is a high-acuity lateral rotation mattress built for serious immobility care—where preventing skin breakdown, controlling heat/moisture, and reducing caregiver strain are non-negotiable. It combines 4 therapies in one system: lateral rotation, low air loss, alternating pressure, and pulsation, making it a standout choice when you need a true clinical-grade low air loss mattress and one of the strongest options people look for when searching for the best mattress for pressure ulcers.

This is not a “comfort upgrade.” It’s a full repositioning + pressure redistribution solution designed to support protocols in ICU/critical care, post-surgical recovery, wound care programs, and long-term care—especially for patients who can’t reliably reposition on their own.

Why the Protekt® Aire 7000 Stands Out (4 Therapies, One System)

1) Lateral Rotation Therapy (Automated Turning Support)

As a true lateral rotation mattress, the Aire 7000 helps reduce prolonged pressure exposure by gently turning the patient left, right, or in full-turn routines—supporting repositioning consistency without constant manual boosts.

  • Rotation modes: Left Turn, Right Turn, Full Turn

  • Adjustable rotation cycles: 10–95 minutes

  • Adjustable turning angles for comfort and safety

Why this matters: facilities use lateral rotation to support turning schedules, reduce caregiver workload, and improve compliance with repositioning plans—especially for patients who are immobile, ventilated, or medically complex.

2) iLAL™ Independent Low Air Loss (Microclimate Control)

The Aire 7000 functions as a high-performance low air loss mattress, periodically releasing high volumes of air to manage heat and moisture at the skin surface.

Why this matters: moisture + heat = higher risk of skin breakdown. Low air loss helps keep skin drier and cooler—critical for pressure injury prevention and ongoing wound care.

3) TrueCare™ Alternating Pressure (Smoother Pressure Relief)

Alternating pressure therapy provides timed pressure redistribution across air cells to reduce constant loading on the same tissue points.

  • Alternating pressure cycles: 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 minutes

  • TrueCare™ design helps create a smoother feel by reinflating the first cell set before deflating the second

Why this matters: patients often tolerate it better (less “sudden drop” sensation), which improves comfort and adherence.

4) Pulsation + Constant Low Pressure Modes (For Sensitivity & Stability)

Some patients can’t tolerate motion all day. The Aire 7000 includes options that support both sensitive patients and stable care needs.

  • Pulsation mode for gentle variation

  • CLP (Constant Low Pressure) for a more static feel

  • Auto-Firm & Static Transfer Mode for safer transfers/egress

Built for Safety, Continuity, and Real-World Clinical Use

18 Cell-on-Cell Bladder Design (Bottoming-Out Protection)

The Aire 7000 uses an 18 air cell “cell-on-cell” bladder system, designed to help prevent bottoming out—even during power interruption.

Two-Stage Fowler Boost

When the bed is elevated (Fowler position), pressure needs change. The Aire 7000 automatically increases pressure during elevation to help reduce bottoming out at incline—supporting comfort and safety for patients who spend time upright.

Smart Alarms + Lockout

  • Audio/visual alarms for low pressure and system alerts

  • Panel lockout helps prevent accidental setting changes

  • Service error codes support faster troubleshooting

Quilted Nylon Top Cover (Breathable + Fluid Resistant)

The cover is built for skin protection and infection-control workflows:

  • Breathable / vapor-permeable

  • Fluid-resistant

  • Antimicrobial

  • Comfortable, quilted feel while supporting microclimate performance

Who This Lateral Rotation Mattress Is Best For

Best for patients who are:

  • High risk for pressure ulcers (limited mobility, poor circulation, fragile skin)

  • Immobile, bedbound, or bariatric (up to 660 lb capacity)

  • Ventilated or medically complex, requiring consistent repositioning support

  • Recovering from major surgery, trauma, or extended hospitalization

  • Enrolled in wound care programs needing advanced pressure management + microclimate control

Best for care environments such as:

  • Hospitals, ICU/Step-Down units, and post-acute care

  • Skilled nursing facilities (SNF) and long-term care

  • Home care setups where caregiver strain is high and turning is difficult

  • Facilities standardizing protocols around pressure injury prevention

If your goal is reducing turning workload while upgrading to a true low air loss mattress, this system was built for exactly that.

Why People Call It the “Best Mattress for Pressure Ulcers”

When people search “best mattress for pressure ulcers,” they’re usually trying to solve one (or more) of these problems:

  • The patient can’t reposition reliably

  • Skin is breaking down due to pressure + moisture

  • Caregiver turning is exhausting / inconsistent

  • The current surface is too basic (foam or simple alternating pressure only)

The Aire 7000 targets all of those at once: pressure redistribution + microclimate control + automated turning support—which is why it’s commonly chosen for high-risk patients and advanced prevention protocols.

Top FAQs

1) Is this a true lateral rotation mattress?

Yes. The Protekt® Aire 7000 is a dedicated lateral rotation mattress system with left, right, and full-turn modes, adjustable angles, and programmable cycles from 10–95 minutes.

2) Is it also a low air loss mattress?

Yes. It includes iLAL™ independent low air loss, designed to manage heat and moisture at the skin surface—key for microclimate control and reducing skin breakdown risk.

3) Is this the best mattress for pressure ulcers?

It’s one of the most comprehensive options because it combines low air loss + alternating pressure + lateral rotation + pulsation. That “4-in-1” therapy design is exactly what many facilities look for when they want a top-level surface for high-risk patients.

4) What patients benefit most from lateral rotation therapy?

Patients who are immobile, ventilated, sedated, or unable to reposition, and those with high pressure injury risk who need consistent turning support without constant manual caregiver effort.

5) What’s the difference between alternating pressure and lateral rotation?

  • Alternating pressure redistributes load by cycling air cells.

  • Lateral rotation physically turns the patient side-to-side on a timed schedule.
Many care plans use both—this system includes both.

6) Will it “bottom out” if the power goes out?

The Aire 7000 uses an 18 cell-on-cell bladder design to help prevent bottoming out and maintain support continuity during interruptions.

7) Is it safe for transfers?

Yes. It includes Auto-Firm and a Static Transfer Mode to create a more stable surface during transfers and egress.

8) What’s the weight capacity?

Up to 660 lbs (both the 36″ and 42″ versions listed).

9) Is the cover breathable and easy to clean?

Yes. The quilted nylon cover is fluid-resistant, vapor-permeable, and antimicrobial, supporting cleaning workflows while helping with skin microclimate performance.

10) Is it good for home care or only hospitals?

It’s commonly used in facilities, but it can be an excellent home-care solution when the patient is high-risk and turning is difficult—especially if caregiver strain is a major issue.

Bottom Line

If you need a premium lateral rotation mattress that also delivers real microclimate performance as a low air loss mattress, the Protekt® Aire 7000 is built for high-risk, high-demand care. It supports turning schedules, improves skin protection conditions, and helps reduce caregiver workload—exactly what most people mean when they’re looking for the best mattress for pressure ulcers.
