Description

Medical Air Mattress with Alternating Pressure & Low Air Loss Therapy

The Invacare microAIR® MA500 Medical Air Mattress System is a lightweight, easy-to-use medical air mattress designed to help support the prevention and treatment of pressure injuries for patients at low to medium risk.

This powered hospital bed air mattress combines alternating pressure and low air loss mattress therapy in one complete system. It includes 2-in-1 alternating pressure cycles, 8 adjustable comfort settings, a 10-minute cycle time, low air loss airflow, a cell-in-cell safety design, natural heel slope support, audio/visual alarms, and a vapor-permeable quilted nylon cover.

Whether you are searching for:

  • ✔️ A medical air mattress
  • ✔️ A hospital bed air mattress
  • ✔️ A low air loss mattress
  • ✔️ An air mattress for pressure ulcers
  • ✔️ An alternating pressure mattress system
  • ✔️ A powered air mattress with pump
  • ✔️ A pressure injury prevention mattress
  • ✔️ A mattress for bedridden patients
  • ✔️ A therapeutic air mattress for homecare
  • ✔️ A hospital mattress with audio and visual alarms

the Invacare microAIR® MA500 is built to provide dependable pressure redistribution, moisture protection, heel pressure reduction, and caregiver-friendly operation for homecare, rehab, nursing facilities, assisted living, and long-term care environments.

Why the Invacare microAIR® MA500 Stands Out

The microAIR® MA500 stands out because it combines essential powered mattress therapies in a system that is lightweight, simple to operate, and designed for everyday patient care.

Key benefits include:

  • ✔️ Medical air mattress therapy system
  • ✔️ Alternating pressure and low air loss
  • ✔️ 2-in-1 pressure cycles
  • ✔️ 8 adjustable comfort settings
  • ✔️ 10-minute alternating cycle time
  • ✔️ Cell-in-cell bottoming-out protection
  • ✔️ Natural heel slope pressure reduction
  • ✔️ Audio and visual pump alarms
  • ✔️ Low shear quilted nylon cover
  • ✔️ 350 lb. weight capacity

Alternating Pressure Therapy for Pressure Injury Support

Alternating pressure therapy helps shift pressure across the mattress surface by cycling air through different cells.

This helps reduce prolonged pressure on vulnerable areas such as:

  • ✔️ Sacrum and tailbone
  • ✔️ Hips
  • ✔️ Heels
  • ✔️ Back
  • ✔️ Shoulders

For patients who spend extended time in bed, the microAIR® MA500 helps provide continuous pressure redistribution support through its 10-minute alternating cycle.

This makes it a strong air mattress for pressure ulcers when the care goal is low-to-medium risk pressure injury prevention and treatment support.

Low Air Loss Mattress Therapy for Moisture Protection

The MA500 also provides low air loss mattress therapy, helping support moisture protection and skin comfort.

Low air loss support helps:

  • ✔️ Reduce moisture buildup
  • ✔️ Support a cooler resting surface
  • ✔️ Help protect skin from excess dampness
  • ✔️ Improve comfort during long bed rest
  • ✔️ Support pressure injury care routines

The oversized pliable quilted nylon top cover is highly vapor permeable and designed to provide low shear, friction reduction, and moisture protection.

8 Adjustable Comfort Settings

The Invacare microAIR® MA500 includes 8 adjustable comfort settings depending on the patient’s therapy requirement.

These settings allow caregivers to better match the mattress feel and support level to:

  • ✔️ Patient comfort preference
  • ✔️ Body weight
  • ✔️ Therapy needs
  • ✔️ Pressure redistribution requirements
  • ✔️ Caregiver assessment

This makes the MA500 more flexible than a simple fixed-pressure mattress system.

10-Minute Alternating Pressure Cycle

The pump operates with a 10-minute alternating pressure cycle.

This helps:

  • ✔️ Regularly shift pressure points
  • ✔️ Support low-to-medium risk patients
  • ✔️ Improve long-term bed comfort
  • ✔️ Reduce prolonged pressure exposure
  • ✔️ Support pressure injury prevention routines

The 2-in-1 alternating pressure cycles are designed to help ensure protection for patients with low to medium risk.

Cell-in-Cell Design Helps Prevent Bottoming Out

The microAIR® MA500 includes a cell-in-cell design that helps prevent bottoming out in the event of a power failure while the mattress remains connected to the compressor pump.

This feature is important because bottoming out can reduce therapeutic support and increase pressure exposure.

The cell-in-cell design helps:

  • ✔️ Maintain added support during power loss
  • ✔️ Improve patient safety protection
  • ✔️ Support more consistent mattress structure
  • ✔️ Give caregivers added confidence

Natural Heel Slope for Vulnerable Heel Areas

The natural heel slope is designed to help decrease pressure in the patient’s vulnerable heel area.

This matters because heels are one of the most common pressure-sensitive areas during long bed rest.

Heel slope support helps:

  • ✔️ Reduce heel pressure concentration
  • ✔️ Support lower leg comfort
  • ✔️ Help protect vulnerable skin areas
  • ✔️ Improve pressure redistribution near the feet

For patients with limited mobility, heel pressure management is one of the most important mattress considerations.

Soft Nylon Urethane-Backed Cells

The air cells are made with soft nylon urethane-backed material designed for easy cleaning and to help minimize the proliferation of bacterial growth.

This supports:

  • ✔️ Easier caregiver maintenance
  • ✔️ Cleaner patient care routines
  • ✔️ Durable air cell performance
  • ✔️ Practical healthcare use

Multiple snap bladders also help make the cells more secure during patient movement.

Audio & Visual Pump Alarms

The compressor pump includes audio and visual alarms to help alert caregivers when attention may be needed.

Alarm support is important for:

  • ✔️ Pressure monitoring
  • ✔️ Caregiver awareness
  • ✔️ Airflow safety
  • ✔️ Therapy consistency
  • ✔️ Facility and homecare confidence

The pump has a 5 LPM flow rate and is designed for easy use in real patient care environments.

Low Shear, Friction & Moisture Protection Cover

The oversized pliable quilted nylon top cover is designed to provide:

  • ✔️ Low shear protection
  • ✔️ Reduced friction
  • ✔️ Moisture protection
  • ✔️ Vapor permeability
  • ✔️ Patient comfort

This helps protect skin integrity during long-term use, repositioning, and patient movement.

The nylon non-slip base cover is also designed to help reduce shear and friction during bed articulation.

Cable Management for Safer Care Areas

The cable management system helps keep cords away from the ground to help reduce trip hazards.

This is especially helpful in:

  • ✔️ Homecare rooms
  • ✔️ Nursing facilities
  • ✔️ Rehab centers
  • ✔️ Assisted living settings
  • ✔️ Long-term care environments

Small caregiver-friendly details like cord control can make a meaningful difference in daily use.
