Description

Gel-Based Pressure Relief, Skin Protection & Positioning Stability for Long-Term Wheelchair Seating

The Permobil M2 Wheelchair Cushion with Quadra3D® Gel is a premium memory foam wheelchair cushion designed for users who need dependable pressure relief, pressure redistribution, skin protection, cooling comfort, shear reduction, and wheelchair positioning support. Built with dual-density foam, a contoured molded base, a memory foam comfort layer, a coccyx relief cutout, and a Quadra3D® gel pack, the M2 is especially well suited for wheelchair users who sit for long periods and need help reducing pressure buildup around the pelvis, tailbone, ischial area, and seated surface.

This is not just a soft cushion. The Permobil M2 is a wheelchair cushion for pressure relief and positioning stability, built to help improve seated comfort while supporting better postural alignment, pelvic control, and long-term skin integrity.

Whether you are searching for:

✔️ A wheelchair cushion for pressure relief
✔️ A memory foam wheelchair cushion
✔️ A gel wheelchair cushion for pressure sores
✔️ An anti thrust wheelchair cushion
✔️ A pressure redistribution wheelchair cushion
✔️ A wheelchair cushion for long sitting
✔️ A skin protection wheelchair cushion

the Permobil M2 is built to address real-world seating challenges for wheelchair users, caregivers, rehab teams, ATPs, homecare settings, and long-term care environments.

Why This Memory Foam Wheelchair Cushion Stands Out

Unlike basic flat foam cushions that only add softness, the M2 combines memory foam, molded contouring, coccyx offloading, and Quadra3D® gel pressure redistribution to support comfort, stability, and skin protection during daily wheelchair use.

✔️ Quadra3D® gel pressure redistribution system
✔️ Memory foam comfort for extended sitting
✔️ Coccyx cutout relieves tailbone pressure
✔️ Anti-thrust profile helps reduce sliding
✔️ Zero Elevation profile also available
✔️ Deep contours support leg positioning
✔️ Helps reduce heat and shear buildup
✔️ Optional ATI positioning support upgrade
✔️ Optional Glidewear shear-reduction upgrade
✔️ Multiple cover and size configurations available

Designed for Pressure Relief, Cooling & Skin Protection

The strongest benefit of the Permobil M2 pressure relief wheelchair cushion is its gel-based pressure redistribution system. Prolonged sitting can create pressure over vulnerable areas such as the ischials, pelvis, coccyx, tailbone, hips, and spine. The M2 is built to help reduce concentrated pressure and support better seated comfort during long wheelchair use.

Quadra3D® Gel Technology

The integrated Quadra3D® gel pack contains four three-dimensional gel compartments designed to distribute gel evenly under the seated surface. This helps reduce pressure concentration, heat buildup, and shear forces while keeping the gel positioned where support is needed.

Benefits include:

✔️ Helps redistribute seated pressure
✔️ Reduces pressure concentration points
✔️ Helps protect ischial areas
✔️ Supports coccyx pressure relief
✔️ Helps reduce heat buildup
✔️ Helps reduce shear forces
✔️ Improves long-sitting comfort

This makes the M2 especially valuable for users concerned with:

✔️ Pressure sore risk
✔️ Skin breakdown prevention
✔️ Coccyx or tailbone discomfort
✔️ Heat sensitivity while sitting
✔️ Long-term wheelchair seating
✔️ Bariatric seating comfort
✔️ Daily pressure redistribution needs

Memory Foam & Molded Foam Construction

The M2 combines a contoured molded foam base, a memory foam comfort layer, and the Quadra3D® gel pack to create a stable, supportive, and pressure-managing seating surface.

This construction helps balance:

✔️ Pressure redistribution
✔️ Skin protection
✔️ Seating stability
✔️ Pelvic support
✔️ Postural alignment
✔️ Long-term comfort

The deep lateral and medial leg contours help guide leg positioning, while the tapered adductors increase in width near the back of the cushion to help support the greater trochanters and promote a more stable seated position.

Anti-Thrust vs Zero Elevation – Which Cushion Profile Is Best?

The Permobil M2 is available in two cushion profiles: Anti-Thrust and Zero Elevation. Both profiles include the M2’s pressure redistribution and skin protection design, but each supports a different seating need.

Anti-Thrust Cushion Profile

The anti thrust wheelchair cushion profile includes anterior pelvic build-up designed to help reduce forward sliding, also known as forward migration, in the wheelchair.

Best for users who:

✔️ Slide forward in the wheelchair
✔️ Need better pelvic stability
✔️ Need anti-thrust positioning support
✔️ Have difficulty maintaining seated posture
✔️ Need pressure relief with positioning control
✔️ Require improved wheelchair seating alignment

Zero Elevation Cushion Profile

The Zero Elevation wheelchair cushion provides a flatter seating surface for users who need pressure redistribution and comfort without the stronger anterior build-up of the Anti-Thrust profile.

Best for users who:

✔️ Need a more neutral seating surface
✔️ Prefer easier repositioning
✔️ Need pressure relief without anti-thrust buildup
✔️ Have more standard seating needs
✔️ Want comfort with moderate positioning support

ATI Upgrade – Enhanced Adjustable Positioning Support

The optional ATI upgrade adds a moldable adjustable support system to the M2 for users who need more individualized seating support than the standard M2 configuration provides.

ATI may be helpful for users who need:

✔️ Additional postural support
✔️ More customized seating stability
✔️ Adjustable support as needs change
✔️ Enhanced pelvic and thigh support
✔️ Rehab-focused seating adjustments

The M2 with ATI is a strong choice when the user needs the M2’s Quadra3D gel pressure relief plus added positioning adaptability.

Need More Advanced Positioning Support?

If the main concern is more complex postural positioning, custom contouring, pelvic asymmetry support, or advanced rehab seating needs, you may also want to compare this cushion with the Permobil Acta-Embrace Wheelchair Cushion. The M2 is strongest for gel-based pressure redistribution, cooling comfort, shear reduction, and skin protection, while the Acta-Embrace is often considered when the priority is deeper foam-based positioning and custom seating support.

Cover Material Options Explained

The M2 is available with two primary cover material choices: Stretch-Air and Comfort-Tek. Both can also be upgraded with optional Glidewear technology.

Stretch-Air Cover

The Stretch-Air cover is designed for breathability, airflow, stretch, and heat dissipation.

Best for:

✔️ Users who sit for long hours
✔️ Users prone to heat buildup
✔️ Users who sweat while seated
✔️ Users who prioritize breathable comfort
✔️ Users needing maximum cushion immersion

Comfort-Tek Cover

The Comfort-Tek cover is designed for infection control, moisture protection, and easier cleaning. It is a soft polyurethane cover option with an incontinence barrier design.

Best for:

✔️ Incontinence management situations
✔️ Homecare and facility use
✔️ Users needing easier wipe-clean care
✔️ Long-term care environments
✔️ Rehab and clinical settings

Optional Glidewear Upgrade for Shear & Friction Reduction

The optional Glidewear upgrade can be added to either the Stretch-Air or Comfort-Tek cover. Glidewear is a low-friction fabric technology designed to help reduce shear and friction forces against the skin.

Glidewear is especially useful for:

✔️ Fragile skin protection
✔️ Pressure injury prevention support
✔️ Users who reposition frequently
✔️ Users at risk of shear-related irritation
✔️ Long-term wheelchair users needing added skin protection

Who This Wheelchair Cushion Is Best For

The Permobil M2 wheelchair cushion for pressure relief is ideal for users who need a balance of gel-based pressure redistribution, cooling comfort, skin protection, and seating stability.

Best for:

✔️ Long-term wheelchair users
✔️ Elderly users needing pressure relief
✔️ Users at risk for pressure sores
✔️ Users with coccyx or tailbone pressure
