Description
Bed Hospital Table with Auto-Touch Height Adjustment for Easier Bedside Access
The Invacare Overbed Table Model 6417 is a height-adjustable bed hospital table designed to provide a convenient surface for eating, reading, writing, personal electronics, paperwork, and everyday bedside essentials. With its patented spring-loaded Auto-Touch adjustment system, durable welded steel base, walnut wood-grain tabletop, and smooth-rolling casters, this table is designed for practical bedside use in homecare, rehabilitation, long-term care, and other appropriate patient-care environments.
Unlike a fixed bedside nightstand, this adjustable over bed table can be positioned directly over or beside the bed, bringing the work surface closer to the user. This can be especially valuable for someone recovering from surgery, living with limited mobility, spending extended time in bed, or simply needing easier access to meals and personal items without repeatedly reaching toward a separate table.
The Invacare 6417 adjusts from approximately 28 inches to 40 inches high. A light upward touch on the spring-loaded adjustment handle allows the table to rise freely, while light downward pressure on the tabletop locks it securely into the desired position.
Its 30″ x 15″ walnut wood-grain laminate tabletop provides useful surface space without creating an oversized bedside footprint. A molded protective edge helps protect the tabletop from everyday bumps and wear, while the welded steel base and caster system provide the mobility needed for routine bedside positioning.
For buyers searching for a dependable bed hospital table, adjustable over bed table, or bedside table medical solution, the Invacare 6417 combines straightforward operation, adjustable height, easy mobility, and durable construction in a proven bedside table design.
Why the Invacare 6417 Bed Hospital Table Stands Out
The Invacare 6417 is designed around one of the most important needs in bedside care: giving the user a stable, accessible surface that can be adjusted and moved without complicated controls.
- ✔️ Auto-Touch spring-loaded height adjustment
- ✔️ Adjustable from 28–40 inches
- ✔️ 30-inch-wide bedside tabletop
- ✔️ Durable welded steel base
- ✔️ Smooth-rolling caster mobility
- ✔️ Walnut wood-grain laminate surface
- ✔️ Protective molded tabletop edge
- ✔️ Simple bedside positioning
This combination makes the Invacare overbed table especially useful for people who need a dependable bedside surface without complicated adjustments or unnecessary features.
Designed Around Real Bedside Needs
People searching for a bed hospital table are often trying to solve very practical everyday problems.
Common questions include:
- ✔️ How can someone eat in bed?
- ✔️ What table rolls over a bed?
- ✔️ Can the tabletop height adjust?
- ✔️ Is adjustment easy for caregivers?
- ✔️ Can the table move away quickly?
- ✔️ Is there room for meals?
- ✔️ Can I read or write comfortably?
The Invacare 6417 addresses these needs by combining a mobile overbed design with an easy Auto-Touch adjustment mechanism and a practical flat work surface.
Instead of requiring the user to repeatedly reach toward a nightstand, the table can be brought directly toward the person and adjusted to a more accessible working height.
Auto-Touch Height Adjustment Makes Positioning Easier
The defining feature of the Invacare 6417 is its patented spring-loaded Auto-Touch locking mechanism.
To raise the tabletop, a light upward touch on the adjustment handle allows the table to elevate freely. Once the desired height is reached, light downward pressure on the tabletop locks it into position.
This design can make adjustment easier when the table needs to be repositioned frequently for:
- ✔️ Meals
- ✔️ Reading
- ✔️ Writing
- ✔️ Tablet use
- ✔️ Personal-care activities
- ✔️ Bedside paperwork
- ✔️ Everyday personal items
For caregivers comparing an adjustable over bed table, a simple height-control system can be an important advantage because it reduces the need to repeatedly tighten knobs or manually support the tabletop during adjustment.
Adjustable Height from 28″ to 40″
The Invacare overbed table adjusts between approximately 28 inches and 40 inches high, allowing the tabletop to be positioned according to the user’s bed height and preferred activity.
The adjustable range can help accommodate:
- ✔️ Different mattress heights
- ✔️ Various seated positions
- ✔️ Meals at bedside
- ✔️ Reading while reclining
- ✔️ Writing and activities
- ✔️ Personal electronics
Before ordering any medical overbed table, buyers should compare the table’s height range with the intended bed and user setup to confirm that the tabletop can reach the required position.
30″ x 15″ Walnut Wood-Grain Tabletop
The Invacare 6417 features an approximately 30-inch-long by 15-inch-wide tabletop, giving users enough space for many common bedside activities without making the table excessively large.
The walnut wood-grain laminate surface provides a more residential appearance than a plain institutional tabletop and can comfortably hold appropriate items such as:
- ✔️ Meal trays and dishes
- ✔️ Books and magazines
- ✔️ Tablets and lightweight electronics
- ✔️ Personal belongings
- ✔️ Writing materials
- ✔️ Lightweight bedside supplies
The molded tabletop edge provides additional protection against routine bumps and impacts during everyday use.
Durable Welded Steel Base for Everyday Use
The table uses a durable welded steel base designed for long-term bedside use.
The base measures approximately 26 inches long by 15.5 inches wide, creating a stable foundation while still allowing the table to be positioned beneath compatible beds.
Durable construction is especially important for an overbed table that may be repositioned multiple times throughout the day in a homecare or professional care setting.
Smooth-Rolling Casters for Bedside Mobility
The Invacare 6417 includes casters that allow the table to move smoothly around the bedside.
This allows a user or caregiver to:
- ✔️ Move the table toward the bed
- ✔️ Reposition it during meals
- ✔️ Move it aside for transfers
- ✔️ Improve caregiver access
- ✔️ Clear the bedside for cleaning
- ✔️ Reposition items throughout the day
This mobility is one of the major differences between a purpose-built bedside table medical solution and a conventional stationary nightstand.
Flat Non-Tilt Tabletop for Meals & Daily Activities
The Invacare 6417 provides a flat, non-tilting tabletop designed for everyday bedside activities.
A fixed horizontal surface can be especially practical for:
- ✔️ Eating meals
- ✔️ Holding beverages
- ✔️ Medication organization
- ✔️ Personal-care items
- ✔️ Reading materials
- ✔️ Lightweight electronics
- ✔️ Writing and paperwork
For users who primarily need an accessible flat surface rather than a tilting reading platform, the Invacare 6417 provides a straightforward bedside solution.
25 lb Dispersed Weight Capacity
The Invacare 6417 supports up to approximately 25 pounds of dispersed weight.
Dispersed weight means that the load should be spread across the tabletop rather than heavily concentrated in one small area.
Appropriate everyday items may include:
- ✔️ Meals and beverages
- ✔️ Books and magazines
- ✔️ Tablets and lightweight laptops
- ✔️ Personal belongings
- ✔️ Grooming items
- ✔️ Lightweight bedside supplies
The table is not designed to support a person’s body weight and should never be used as a grab bar, standing aid, transfer aid, or mobility support device.
Ideal for Homecare & Patient Care Settings
The Invacare overbed table can be useful in a variety of bedside environments, including:
- ✔️ Homecare bedrooms
- ✔️ Home hospital-bed setups
- ✔️ Rehabilitation environments
- ✔️ Assisted living facilities
- ✔️ Long-term care settings
- ✔️ Skilled nursing environments
- ✔️ Recovery and post-surgical care
Although commonly associated with hospital-style beds, an adjustable overbed table can be equally helpful at home when illness, injury, surgery, age, or limited mobility makes ordinary bedside activities more difficult.
Who Is the Invacare Bed Hospital Table Best For?
The Invacare 6417 may be particularly useful for:
- ✔️ Seniors with limited mobility
- ✔️ People recovering after surgery
- ✔️ Hospital-bed users at home
- ✔️ Individuals spending extended time in bed
- ✔️ Family caregivers
- ✔️ Rehabilitation patients
- ✔️ Long-term care residents
- ✔️ Healthcare facilities
It is especially appropriate when easy height adjustment and bedside mobility are priorities.
Who May Need a Different Overbed Table?
A different table may be a better choice when:
- ✔️ More than 25 lbs capacity needed
- ✔️ Tilting tabletop is preferred
- ✔️ Larger work surface is required
- ✔️ Powered adjustment is needed
- ✔️ Bed clearance does not fit base
- ✔️ Bariatric-duty table is required
Always compare the table dimensions with the intended bed before ordering, especially the base width, base length, and height-adjustment range.
Bed Hospital Table vs. Standard Nightstand
Invacare Bed Hospital Table
- ✔️ Rolls toward the user
- ✔️ Positions surface over bed
- ✔️ Height adjusts 28–40 inches
- ✔️ Designed for bedside accessibility
- ✔️ Moves away when needed
Traditional Bedside Nightstand
- ✔️ Usually remains beside bed
- ✔️ Typically has fixed height
- ✔️ Cannot extend over mattress
- ✔️ Requires reaching toward side
- ✔️ Designed primarily for storage
The important difference is accessibility. A standard nightstand stays beside the bed, while an overbed table brings the usable surface closer to someone who may have difficulty reaching or repositioning themselves.
Common Problems This Adjustable Over Bed Table Helps Address
- ❌ Nightstand is difficult to reach → ✔️ Table rolls over bedside
- ❌ Eating in bed feels awkward → ✔️ Accessible flat tabletop
- ❌ Table height does not match → ✔️ 28–40″ height adjustment
- ❌ Adjustment controls feel complicated → ✔️ Auto-Touch locking mechanism
- ❌ Bedside surface cannot move → ✔️ Caster mobility
- ❌ Caregiver needs easier access → ✔️ Table rolls away easily
- ❌ Personal items stay out-of-reach → ✔️ Accessible bedside surface

Shipping & Returns
Shipping & Return Policy
At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.
Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.
Shipping & Order Processing
We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.
Processing Time
Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.
Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.
Transit & Delivery Time
Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.
Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.
Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas
Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.
Freight & Oversized Equipment
Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.
30-Day Return Policy
We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.
Eligible products generally include:
- Electric and power wheelchairs
- Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
- Mobility scooters
- Walkers and rollators
- Patient lifts
- Wheelchair ramps
- Hospital and homecare beds
- Eligible medical mattresses
- Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
- Overbed tables
- Bathroom benches and shower chairs
- Other eligible medical and mobility equipment
Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.
Return Authorization
Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.
You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.
Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.
Condition of Returned Merchandise
To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:
- In brand-new and unused condition
- In its complete original manufacturer packaging
- With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
- Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
- In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer
We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.
Restocking Fees
Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.
These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.
If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.
Return Shipping & Shipping Charges
The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.
Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.
Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.
Non-Returnable Products
For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.
We currently do not accept returns on:
- Parts & accessories
- Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
- Patient lift slings
- Custom or made-to-order products
- Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page
If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.
Damaged or Incorrect Orders
We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.
If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.
Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.
If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.
Refused Deliveries
Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.
A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.
Return Shipping Deadline
Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.
This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.
Refund Processing
Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.
The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.
If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.
Custom & Made-to-Order Products
Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.
For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.
If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.
Questions Before Ordering?
Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.
Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.
For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
