Description

Trapeze Bar for Bed for Repositioning, Bed Mobility & Assisted Transfers

The Lumex Versa-Helper Trapeze Bar for Bed is designed to give users a secure overhead handbar they can grasp when they need assistance repositioning themselves in bed or participating in transfers from the bed to other equipment. For people who have difficulty shifting their upper body, changing position, or moving toward the edge of the bed, the trapeze provides an accessible handhold above the sleeping surface.

Unlike a bedside rail that provides support from the side, this medical bed trapeze bar allows the user to reach upward and use upper-body strength to assist with movement. The handbar location is fully adjustable, allowing it to be positioned according to the user’s reach and bedside setup.

The Versa-Helper can be installed directly onto a compatible metal-frame headboard. For beds where headboard mounting is not appropriate, the trapeze can also be used with the optional Lumex Versa-Helper floor stand, sold separately. This makes it important to identify the intended installation method before ordering.

The trapeze is height adjustable from approximately 43″ to 52″ and has an assisted weight capacity of 250 lbs. VersaGuard®-coated clamps and handbar provide a durable gripping and mounting surface, while integrated rubber bumper guards help protect nearby walls.

For families and caregivers searching for a trapeze bar for bed, medical bed trapeze bar, or practical help getting out of bed for the elderly, the Lumex Versa-Helper provides an established bedside mobility solution for users who can actively participate in repositioning and assisted transfers.

Why the Lumex Versa-Helper Trapeze Bar Stands Out

The Versa-Helper is designed around a specific bedside challenge: giving the user an overhead support point they can grasp when changing position or participating in a transfer.

  • ✔️ Helps with repositioning in bed
  • ✔️ Assists bed-to-equipment transfers
  • ✔️ Fully adjustable handbar position
  • ✔️ Height adjusts from 43″–52″
  • ✔️ 250 lb assisted weight capacity
  • ✔️ VersaGuard®-coated handbar and clamps
  • ✔️ Rubber wall-protection bumper guards
  • ✔️ Optional floor stand available

This makes the Versa-Helper particularly useful when the individual has enough upper-body ability to grasp the handbar and actively assist with their own movement.

Designed Around Real Bed Mobility Problems

People looking for a trapeze bar for bed are often trying to solve very specific mobility challenges rather than simply adding another bed accessory.

Common questions include:

  • ✔️ How can I reposition myself in bed?
  • ✔️ What helps someone move toward bedside?
  • ✔️ How can a patient assist transfers?
  • ✔️ What can someone pull on safely?
  • ✔️ Can a trapeze attach to headboard?
  • ✔️ What if headboard mounting won’t work?
  • ✔️ Can the handbar position be adjusted?

The Versa-Helper addresses these needs by placing an adjustable handbar above the bed where the user can grasp it and use available upper-body strength to participate in movement.

Rather than requiring the caregiver to perform all repositioning manually, an appropriate user may be able to contribute more actively to turning, shifting, moving toward the edge of the bed, or preparing for an assisted transfer.

How Does a Trapeze Bar for Bed Help?

A bed trapeze provides an overhead handhold positioned within reach of the person lying in bed. The user grasps the handbar and uses available arm and upper-body strength to assist with movement.

Depending on the user’s abilities and care plan, a trapeze may help with activities such as:

  • ✔️ Shifting position in bed
  • ✔️ Repositioning the upper body
  • ✔️ Moving closer to bed edge
  • ✔️ Preparing for an assisted transfer
  • ✔️ Participating in bed mobility
  • ✔️ Reducing unnecessary caregiver lifting

A trapeze does not independently lift or transfer a patient. The user must be able to grasp the handbar and appropriately participate in the movement.

Help Getting Out of Bed for Elderly Users

When families search for help getting out of bed for the elderly, the correct solution depends heavily on the person’s strength and mobility.

For an older adult who still has useful upper-body strength but has difficulty repositioning, sitting toward the edge of the mattress, or participating in a transfer, an overhead trapeze may provide a useful point of support.

The user can grasp the handbar to assist with:

  • ✔️ Changing position before sitting up
  • ✔️ Moving toward the bed edge
  • ✔️ Adjusting body position in bed
  • ✔️ Preparing for caregiver assistance
  • ✔️ Participating in transfer movements

However, a trapeze is not appropriate for every elderly or mobility-impaired user. Someone who cannot reliably grasp the bar, follow transfer instructions, or safely use upper-body strength may require a different type of transfer or positioning equipment.

Fully Adjustable Handbar Position

The location of the Versa-Helper handbar is fully adjustable, allowing the support point to be positioned according to the user’s reach and bed configuration.

Proper positioning matters because the handbar should be accessible without requiring the user to excessively stretch, twist, or reach beyond a comfortable position.

An adjustable handbar can be especially helpful when:

  • ✔️ User reach is limited
  • ✔️ Bed positioning changes
  • ✔️ Different users require different placement
  • ✔️ Transfer setup requires repositioning
  • ✔️ Care needs change over time

Height Adjustable from 43″ to 52″

The Lumex Versa-Helper is height adjustable from approximately 43 inches to 52 inches.

This adjustment range allows the trapeze to be configured according to the intended bed setup and user positioning.

Because bed heights, mattress thicknesses, and individual reach can vary considerably, the trapeze should be properly adjusted during installation rather than assuming one position will work for every user.

250 lb Assisted Weight Capacity

The Versa-Helper Trapeze has an assisted weight capacity of 250 lbs.

The term assisted weight capacity is important. A medical bed trapeze is intended to help a user participate in repositioning and assisted mobility; it is not designed to suspend the person’s entire body weight or function as a patient lift.

The user’s physical ability, intended movement, installation, and overall transfer plan should all be considered before use.

Attaches to Compatible Metal-Frame Headboards

This product listing is for the trapeze assembly only. When used without the optional floor stand, the Versa-Helper is designed to clamp to a compatible metal-frame headboard.

This distinction is especially important before ordering:

  • ✔️ Trapeze assembly is included
  • ✔️ Floor stand is not included
  • ✔️ Headboard mounting requires metal frame
  • ✔️ Compatibility should be confirmed first
  • ✔️ 14mm wrench required for assembly

Do not assume that the trapeze can be safely clamped to a wooden, upholstered, decorative, or otherwise incompatible headboard.

Need a Floor-Standing Bed Trapeze Instead?

If the bed does not have a compatible metal-frame headboard, the Versa-Helper trapeze can be paired with the optional floor stand sold separately.

The floor base provides an alternative mounting solution for appropriate bed configurations where attaching the trapeze directly to the headboard is not possible or preferred.

View the Lumex Versa-Helper Floor Trapeze Base →

Important: The linked product is the floor base only. This product page is for the trapeze assembly. The two components are ordered separately when a complete floor-standing configuration is required.

VersaGuard®-Coated Handbar & Clamps

The handbar and clamps feature VersaGuard® coating, providing a durable finished surface on components that are routinely handled or used for mounting.

The handbar serves as the user’s primary gripping point, while the clamps secure the trapeze to the appropriate mounting structure when configured for headboard installation.

Rubber Bumper Guards Help Protect Walls

Integrated rubber bumper guards help protect nearby walls from contact with the trapeze structure.

This is particularly useful in bedrooms and care environments where the head of the bed is positioned close to a wall and movement or adjustment of the equipment could otherwise result in surface contact.

Who Is This Medical Bed Trapeze Bar Best For?

The Lumex Versa-Helper may be appropriate for users who can actively participate in bed mobility and need an overhead support point for repositioning or assisted transfers.

Potential users include:

  • ✔️ Seniors with reduced bed mobility
  • ✔️ People recovering from surgery
  • ✔️ Individuals with limited lower-body mobility
  • ✔️ Users with functional upper-body strength
  • ✔️ Home hospital-bed users
  • ✔️ Rehabilitation patients
  • ✔️ Long-term care residents
  • ✔️ Caregivers assisting bedside mobility

The user’s ability to safely grip and use the trapeze should always be considered when determining whether this type of equipment is appropriate.

Who May Need a Different Bed Mobility Solution?

A trapeze bar may not be the appropriate solution when:

  • ✔️ User cannot securely grip handbar
  • ✔️ Upper-body strength is insufficient
  • ✔️ Full-body lifting is required
  • ✔️ User cannot participate in transfers
  • ✔️ Headboard is incompatible with clamps
  • ✔️ Assisted capacity exceeds 250 lbs

Depending on the person’s mobility level, alternatives may include bed assist rails, transfer aids, patient lifts, or other positioning equipment.

Bed Trapeze vs. Bed Assist Rail

Lumex Bed Trapeze

  • ✔️ Provides overhead gripping support
  • ✔️ Helps with in-bed repositioning
  • ✔️ Supports assisted transfer preparation
  • ✔️ Handbar position is adjustable
  • ✔️ Requires active upper-body participation

Bed Assist Rail or Handle

  • ✔️ Provides support beside mattress
  • ✔️ Commonly assists sitting and standing
  • ✔️ Gripped from side of bed
  • ✔️ May provide bedside boundary support
  • ✔️ Compatibility depends on bed design

The primary difference is the direction and location of support. A trapeze provides an overhead handhold for pulling and repositioning, while a bed assist handle generally provides support beside the mattress.

Bed Trapeze vs. Patient Lift

Medical Bed Trapeze

  • ✔️ User actively participates
  • ✔️ Uses user’s upper-body strength
  • ✔️ Helps with bed repositioning
  • ✔️ Assists transfer preparation
  • ✔️ Does not lift entire patient

Patient Lift

  • ✔️ Designed for supported patient transfers
  • ✔️ Uses sling to support patient
  • ✔️ Appropriate for greater transfer assistance
  • ✔️ Does not depend on pulling overhead
  • ✔️ Different equipment category and purpose

A trapeze should never be considered a substitute for a patient lift when the individual requires full-body lifting or cannot safely participate in the transfer.

Common Problems This Trapeze Bar for Bed Helps Address

  • ❌ Difficult to reposition in bed → ✔️ Overhead adjustable handbar
  • ❌ Hard to move toward bedside → ✔️ User can assist movement
  • ❌ Transfers require more participation → ✔️ Supports transfer preparation
  • ❌ Fixed handhold is out-of-reach → ✔️ Adjustable handbar location
  • ❌ Bed lacks appropriate support point → ✔️ Overhead gripping solution
  • ❌ Wall contact is a concern → ✔️ Rubber bumper guards
  • ❌ Headboard mounting isn’t possible → ✔️ Optional floor stand available

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

What is a trapeze bar for bed used for?

A bed trapeze provides an overhead handbar that an appropriate user can grasp to help reposition themselves in bed and participate in assisted transfers from the bed to other equipment.

Can a bed trapeze help an elderly person get out of bed?

It can provide useful assistance for an elderly person who has sufficient grip and upper-body strength to actively participate in repositioning and transfer preparation. It does not independently lift a person out of bed.

Does the Lumex Versa-Helper lift the patient?

No. The trapeze provides a handhold that allows the user to assist with their own movement. It is not a powered lift and is not designed to suspend or fully transfer a patient.

What is the weight capacity of the Versa-Helper?

The Lumex Versa-Helper has an assisted weight capacity of 250 lbs.

What does assisted weight capacity mean?

It means the trapeze is intended to assist a user who is actively participating in movement. It should not be interpreted as a device designed to suspend or lift the user’s full body weight.

How high does the Lumex bed trapeze adjust?

The Versa-Helper is height adjustable from approximately 43 inches to 52 inches.

Can the handbar position be adjusted?

Yes. The handbar location is fully adjustable so it can be positioned according to the user’s reach and the bed configuration.

What type of bed does this trapeze attach to?

When installed without the optional floor stand, the Versa-Helper is designed for use with a compatible metal-frame headboard.

Can this trapeze attach to a wooden headboard?

The manufacturer specifies use with metal-frame headboards. Do not assume compatibility with wooden, upholstered, or decorative headboards.

Is the floor stand included?

No. This listing is for the trapeze only. The compatible floor stand is an optional accessory and is ordered separately.

What if my bed does not have a compatible metal headboard?

The Versa-Helper can be used with the optional floor stand for an appropriate floor-standing configuration. View the compatible Versa-Helper floor trapeze base here.

Is this the same thing as a bed assist rail?

No. A bed assist rail generally provides a handhold beside the mattress. A trapeze provides an overhead handbar that the user can grasp to assist with repositioning and mobility.

Is a bed trapeze the same as a patient lift?

No. A patient lift is designed to support and transfer a patient using a sling or other lifting system. A bed trapeze relies on the user’s ability to grasp the handbar and actively participate in movement.

Who is a medical bed trapeze best suited for?

It may be useful for users who have functional upper-body strength but need additional assistance repositioning themselves in bed or participating in assisted transfers.

Who may not be appropriate for a bed trapeze?

A person who cannot reliably grasp the handbar, lacks sufficient upper-body ability, cannot safely participate in transfers, or requires full-body lifting may need another type of mobility or transfer equipment.

What are the rubber bumper guards for?

The rubber bumper guards are designed to help protect nearby walls from contact with the trapeze structure.

What tool is required for assembly?

A 14mm wrench is required for assembly.

What is HCPCS code E0910?

Shipping & Returns

Shipping & Return Policy

At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.

Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.

Shipping & Order Processing

We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.

Processing Time

Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.

Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.

Transit & Delivery Time

Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.

Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.

Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas

Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.

Freight & Oversized Equipment

Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.

30-Day Return Policy

We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.

Eligible products generally include:

  • Electric and power wheelchairs
  • Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
  • Mobility scooters
  • Walkers and rollators
  • Patient lifts
  • Wheelchair ramps
  • Hospital and homecare beds
  • Eligible medical mattresses
  • Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
  • Overbed tables
  • Bathroom benches and shower chairs
  • Other eligible medical and mobility equipment

Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.

Return Authorization

Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.

You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.

Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.

Condition of Returned Merchandise

To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:

  • In brand-new and unused condition
  • In its complete original manufacturer packaging
  • With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
  • Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
  • In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer

We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.

Restocking Fees

Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.

These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.

If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.

Return Shipping & Shipping Charges

The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.

Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.

Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.

Non-Returnable Products

For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.

We currently do not accept returns on:

  • Parts & accessories
  • Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
  • Patient lift slings
  • Custom or made-to-order products
  • Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page

If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.

Damaged or Incorrect Orders

We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.

If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.

Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.

If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.

Refused Deliveries

Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.

A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.

Return Shipping Deadline

Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.

This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.

Refund Processing

Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.

The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.

If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.

Custom & Made-to-Order Products

Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.

For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.

If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.

Questions Before Ordering?

Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.

Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.

For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
