Description

Graham-Field Dura-Gel BASE 3G – Everyday Dura Gel Wheelchair Cushion in 7 Sizes

The Graham-Field Dura-Gel wheelchair cushion is a 3″ everyday seat cushion for standard wheelchairs. A layer of non-aqueous Dura-Gel sits between a high-density foam base and a convoluted foam topper, and Graham-Field rates it for 300 lbs.

The Dura-Gel BASE 3G cushion is Graham-Field’s general-use model: light, simple and easy to move from chair to chair. As a gel and foam wheelchair cushion, it reduces surface pressure with the gel layer while the convoluted top lets air move and keeps it comfortable.

It comes in seven sizes, from 16″ x 16″ up to 24″ x 18″. Match the cushion to your wheelchair’s seat width and depth and pick that size in the dropdown above.

Why Choose the Dura-Gel BASE 3G?

It’s an honest, no-fuss upgrade from a bare sling seat or a flat foam pad. The gel won’t leak, the cushion weighs only about 3 lbs, and the four-way stretch cover has a no-slip bottom and a strap at the back so it stays put. Graham-Field makes it in the USA, it’s not made with natural rubber latex, and it carries a 1-year limited warranty.

Who Is the Dura-Gel BASE 3G Best For?

The BASE 3G is a good fit for:

  • Wheelchair users up to 300 lbs who want more comfort than the chair’s sling seat gives
  • Transport chair and standard wheelchair owners with a 16″ to 24″ wide seat
  • Caregivers who move a cushion between chairs and want something light
  • People who need a latex-free cushion

For a side-by-side look at foam, gel and air cushions, see our wheelchair seat cushion buying guide.

Who May Need a Different Cushion?

  • Users over 300 lbs or seats wider than 24″: choose a bariatric cushion, such as the Graham-Field Bariatric Skin Protection Cushion (650 lbs, 22″ to 30″ wide).
  • Anyone with a pressure injury or a high risk of one: ask your doctor or therapist which cushion they want you on. A general-use cushion may not be enough.
  • People who need positioning support: if the user leans to one side or slides forward, ask us about a positioning cushion.

300 lb Weight Capacity

Graham-Field rates the BASE 3G for a maximum of 300 lbs in every size, and says it accommodates a wide range of body shapes, sizes and weights.

A Dura-Gel Layer That Won’t Leak

The center layer is Graham-Field’s non-aqueous visco-elastic Dura-Gel. It reduces tissue interface pressure at critical points, and because it isn’t water-based, it won’t leak.

Convoluted Topper Over a High-Density Base

The high-density base foam gives the cushion its structure and helps it last. On top, a convoluted (egg-crate style) foam layer adds comfort and lets air flow under the user.

About 3 lbs and Easy to Move

Graham-Field’s product sheet lists the cushion at about 3 lbs and under 5 lbs for every size, so it’s easy to lift off the chair before folding it or to carry to another chair.

Choosing Your Options

There’s one dropdown: Size. The first number is the width (side to side), the second is the depth (front to back) and the last is the thickness. All sizes are 3″ thick with the same build.

Size (W x D x H) Graham-Field code
16″ x 16″ x 3″ 8565166
18″ x 16″ x 3″ 8565186
18″ x 18″ x 3″ 8565188
20″ x 16″ x 3″ 8565206
20″ x 18″ x 3″ 8565208
22″ x 18″ x 3″ 8565228
24″ x 18″ x 3″ 8565248

Match the cushion to your wheelchair seat width x depth. An 18″ wide chair with a 16″ deep seat takes the 18″ x 16″ x 3″. If the cushion is wider than the seat, it won’t sit flat between the armrests; if it’s deeper than the seat, it will hang off the front edge. Call us at 585-505-6665 with your wheelchair model and we’ll confirm the size.

Dura-Gel BASE 3G vs. a Bariatric Cushion

The BASE 3G is the everyday choice for standard chairs: 3″ thick, about 3 lbs, rated for 300 lbs, sizes 16″ to 24″ wide. A bariatric cushion such as Graham-Field’s Bariatric Skin Protection Cushion is 4″ thick, rated for 650 lbs and made for 22″ to 30″ seats, with a memory foam topper. If the user is under 300 lbs and sits in a standard chair, the BASE 3G is the simpler pick.

Common Problem → Dura-Gel BASE 3G Solution

Problem: Mom’s 18″ wheelchair came with a thin vinyl seat. After an hour at a doctor’s appointment she’s shifting around and asking to stand up.

Solution: The 18″ x 16″ x 3″ BASE 3G drops right onto the seat. The gel layer spreads her weight, the convoluted top keeps air moving, and the no-slip base and back strap keep it from sliding when she transfers.

“Will it make the chair hard to fold?” Lift the 3 lb cushion off first, fold the chair as usual and put the cushion back when you arrive.

Sizing & Fit

  • Width: measure the wheelchair seat from side to side between the armrests: 16″, 18″, 20″, 22″ or 24″.
  • Depth: measure from the front edge of the seat to the backrest: 16″ or 18″ (the 16″ and 18″ wide sizes also come in 16″ deep).
  • Thickness: 3″. The user will sit about that much higher, so check footrest and armrest height.
  • Weight: 300 lbs maximum.
  • Measure first: Graham-Field lists this cushion as non-returnable, so please confirm your size before you order. We’re happy to help at 585-505-6665.

Care & Cleaning

Graham-Field describes the cover as fluid-resistant, removable and washable. Follow the care label on the cover. As general care, check the cushion and strap regularly, keep the cover on whenever the cushion is in use, and replace the cushion if the foam stops springing back.

What’s Included

One cushion in the size you choose, with its four-way stretch cover, no-slip base and back securing strap. Ask us to confirm anything else before you order.

Warranty

Graham-Field lists a 1-year limited warranty on the Dura-Gel BASE 3G. As an authorized Graham-Field dealer, we’ll help you with any warranty claim.

Shipping & Returns

Shipping & Return Policy

At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.

Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.

Shipping & Order Processing

We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.

Processing Time

Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.

Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.

Transit & Delivery Time

Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.

Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.

Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas

Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.

Freight & Oversized Equipment

Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.

30-Day Return Policy

We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.

Eligible products generally include:

  • Electric and power wheelchairs
  • Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
  • Mobility scooters
  • Walkers and rollators
  • Patient lifts
  • Wheelchair ramps
  • Hospital and homecare beds
  • Eligible medical mattresses
  • Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
  • Overbed tables
  • Bathroom benches and shower chairs
  • Other eligible medical and mobility equipment

Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.

Return Authorization

Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.

You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.

Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.

Condition of Returned Merchandise

To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:

  • In brand-new and unused condition
  • In its complete original manufacturer packaging
  • With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
  • Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
  • In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer

We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.

Restocking Fees

Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.

These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.

If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.

Return Shipping & Shipping Charges

The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.

Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.

Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.

Non-Returnable Products

For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.

We currently do not accept returns on:

  • Parts & accessories
  • Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
  • Patient lift slings
  • Custom or made-to-order products
  • Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page

If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.

Damaged or Incorrect Orders

We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.

If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.

Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.

If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.

Refused Deliveries

Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.

A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.

Return Shipping Deadline

Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.

This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.

Refund Processing

Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.

The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.

If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.

Custom & Made-to-Order Products

Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.

For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.

If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.

Questions Before Ordering?

Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.

Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.

For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
