Description
Graham-Field Bariatric Skin Protection Wheelchair Cushion – 4″ Gel and Memory Foam Bariatric Seat Cushion
The Graham-Field bariatric seat cushion is built for larger users who sit in a wide wheelchair for hours at a time. It’s a 4″ cushion with a medium density foam base, a gel core layer and a memory foam topper, and Graham-Field rates it for 650 lbs, evenly distributed.
Graham-Field calls this its Bariatric Skin Protection Cushion, and it’s made to spread weight across the seat instead of letting it pile up on a few spots. If you need a wide wheelchair cushion, it comes in four sizes from 22″ x 18″ up to 30″ x 19″. As a skin protection wheelchair cushion, it has a gel layer placed at three pressure zones and a fluid-resistant stretch cover that cuts down on shear and friction.
The cover is antimicrobial, flame retardant, removable and washable. A non-skid base and a strap keep the cushion in place on the chair. Pick the size that matches your wheelchair seat in the dropdown above.
Why Choose the Graham-Field Bariatric Skin Protection Cushion?
Most standard cushions stop at 300 lbs and 20″ wide. This one starts at 22″ and goes to 30″, and every size carries the same 650 lb rating. It’s 4″ thick, with gel where the body presses hardest and memory foam on top for comfort. Graham-Field makes it in the USA and lists an 18-month warranty on its product sheet.
Who Is the Bariatric Skin Protection Cushion Best For?
This cushion is a good fit for:
- Larger users in a bariatric or heavy-duty wheelchair with a seat 22″ to 30″ wide
- People who sit for long stretches and want weight spread more evenly across the seat
- Caregivers who need a cover that resists fluids and comes off for washing
- Users whose current cushion has flattened out or slides around on the seat
Not sure which type of cushion you need? Our Wheelchair Seat Cushions Knowledge Base explains foam, gel and air cushions in plain terms.
Who May Need a Different Cushion?
- Standard-size wheelchairs: if your seat is 16″ to 20″ wide, this cushion won’t fit. Look at our standard Wheelchair Seat Cushions.
- Users over 650 lbs: call us at 585-505-6665 and we’ll help you find a cushion rated higher.
- Anyone with an existing pressure injury: ask your doctor or therapist which cushion they recommend before you buy. A cushion is not a treatment.
- People who need a seat that sits lower: this cushion is 4″ thick, which raises the user about that much on the chair.
650 lb Weight Capacity in Every Size
Graham-Field rates all four sizes for 650 lbs, evenly distributed. You don’t give up capacity when you pick the narrower 22″ size or gain it with the 30″.
Gel at Three Pressure Zones
Inside, a non-aqueous visco-elastic gel core layer sits on top of the foam base. Graham-Field places the gel at three pressure zones to reduce tissue interface pressure at critical points. The gel is a flexible solid, so it won’t leak if the cover gets punctured.
Memory Foam Topper and a Gentle Front-to-Back Slope
A visco-elastic memory foam topper adds comfort on top of the gel. The cushion also positions the user with a moderate slope from front to back, which helps keep hips back in the chair.
Stretch Cover That Comes Off for Washing
The fluid-resistant stretch top cover reduces shear and friction against the skin. It’s antimicrobial and flame retardant, and you can remove it and wash it. Underneath, a non-skid base and a strap hold the cushion firmly to the chair.
Choosing Your Options
There’s one dropdown: Size. The first number is the width (side to side), the second is the depth (front to back) and the last is the thickness. All four sizes are 4″ thick and use the same gel and foam build.
| Size (W x D x H) | Graham-Field code |
|---|---|
| 22″ x 18″ x 4″ | 20252218B |
| 24″ x 18″ x 4″ | 20252418B |
| 26″ x 19″ x 4″ | 20252619B |
| 30″ x 19″ x 4″ | 20253019B |
Match the cushion to your wheelchair’s seat width and depth. If the chair’s seat is 24″ wide and 18″ deep, choose 24″ x 18″ x 4″. Not sure? Call us at 585-505-6665 with your wheelchair model and we’ll check it for you.
Bariatric Skin Protection Cushion vs. a Standard Gel Cushion
A standard gel and foam cushion, such as the Graham-Field Dura-Gel BASE 3G, is about 3″ thick, rated for 300 lbs and made for 16″ to 24″ seats. The Bariatric Skin Protection Cushion is 4″ thick, rated for 650 lbs, sized for 22″ to 30″ seats and adds a memory foam topper over the gel. If the user is over 300 lbs or sits in a bariatric chair, this is the one to choose.
Common Problem → Bariatric Skin Protection Cushion Solution
Problem: Dad uses a 24″ heavy-duty wheelchair. The flat foam pad that came with it has worn down, he keeps sliding forward, and he’s sore after a few hours of sitting.
Solution: The 24″ x 18″ x 4″ Bariatric Skin Protection Cushion fits his chair’s seat and is rated for 650 lbs. The gel layer and memory foam topper spread his weight across the seat, the slight front-to-back slope helps keep him back in the chair, and the strap and non-skid base stop the cushion from shifting.
“What if he has an accident on it?” The top cover is fluid-resistant and antimicrobial, and it comes off so you can wash it.
Sizing & Fit
- Width: measure the wheelchair seat from side to side, inside the armrests. Choose the cushion width that matches: 22″, 24″, 26″ or 30″.
- Depth: measure from the front edge of the seat to the backrest. The 22″ and 24″ sizes are 18″ deep; the 26″ and 30″ sizes are 19″ deep.
- Thickness: 4″. Check that the user’s feet still reach the footrests and that the armrests are at a comfortable height once the cushion is in place.
- Weight: 650 lbs maximum, evenly distributed.
Care & Cleaning
Graham-Field lists the cover as removable and washable. Follow the care label on the cover for washing. As general care, check the cushion daily, keep the cover zipped on, and make sure the strap is fastened to the chair. If the cushion loses its shape or the gel layer feels damaged, call us at 585-505-6665.
What’s Included
One cushion in the size you choose, with its fluid-resistant stretch cover and securing strap. Ask us to confirm anything else before you order.
Warranty
Graham-Field’s product sheet lists an 18-month warranty on the Bariatric Skin Protection Cushion. As an authorized Graham-Field dealer, we’ll help you with any warranty claim.

Shipping & Returns
Shipping & Return Policy
At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.
Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.
Shipping & Order Processing
We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.
Processing Time
Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.
Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.
Transit & Delivery Time
Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.
Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.
Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas
Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.
Freight & Oversized Equipment
Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.
30-Day Return Policy
We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.
Eligible products generally include:
- Electric and power wheelchairs
- Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
- Mobility scooters
- Walkers and rollators
- Patient lifts
- Wheelchair ramps
- Hospital and homecare beds
- Eligible medical mattresses
- Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
- Overbed tables
- Bathroom benches and shower chairs
- Other eligible medical and mobility equipment
Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.
Return Authorization
Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.
You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.
Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.
Condition of Returned Merchandise
To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:
- In brand-new and unused condition
- In its complete original manufacturer packaging
- With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
- Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
- In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer
We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.
Restocking Fees
Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.
These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.
If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.
Return Shipping & Shipping Charges
The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.
Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.
Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.
Non-Returnable Products
For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.
We currently do not accept returns on:
- Parts & accessories
- Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
- Patient lift slings
- Custom or made-to-order products
- Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page
If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.
Damaged or Incorrect Orders
We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.
If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.
Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.
If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.
Refused Deliveries
Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.
A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.
Return Shipping Deadline
Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.
This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.
Refund Processing
Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.
The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.
If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.
Custom & Made-to-Order Products
Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.
For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.
If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.
Questions Before Ordering?
Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.
Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.
For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
