Description
Shoprider Excursion Heavy Duty Mobility Scooter with 500 lb Capacity
The Shoprider Excursion Heavy Duty Mobility Scooter is a powerful four-wheel mobility scooter designed for users who need higher weight capacity, full-size comfort, stable outdoor performance, and more advanced driving controls than a compact travel scooter can provide. With a 500 lb weight capacity, full suspension, large pneumatic tires, advanced tiller controls, lighting system, turn signals, and a reclining swivel captain’s seat, the Excursion is built for substantial everyday mobility.
For shoppers specifically comparing heavy duty mobility scooters 500 lbs and above, the Excursion stands out because it combines higher-capacity construction with a comfortable full-size seating system and strong outdoor-oriented specifications. The scooter measures approximately 27 inches wide and 56 inches long, reaches speeds up to approximately 6.5 mph, and offers extended driving range depending on the installed battery configuration.
The standard seating configuration is the SV202220RB 20″W × 22″D captain’s seat, designed with swivel and manual recline functionality for greater comfort and easier access. Shoprider also offers alternative seating configurations for users who need different dimensions or positioning options. Contact MedCare Mobility before ordering if you need a different seat size or seating configuration so we can help confirm compatibility and current availability.
Why the Shoprider Excursion Heavy Duty Mobility Scooter Stands Out
The Excursion is not simply a larger version of a compact scooter. It is designed as a true mobility scooter heavy duty platform for users who need substantially greater capacity, larger seating, increased ground clearance, full suspension, and stronger outdoor capability.
Its combination of a 500 lb user capacity, 20-inch standard captain’s seat, full suspension, 12.5-inch pneumatic tires, 4-inch ground clearance, advanced tiller, lighting package, and dual-purpose wig-wag control makes it especially relevant for users who require more support and capability than lightweight portable scooters typically provide.
- ✔️ 500 lb heavy-duty weight capacity
- ✔️ Full four-wheel suspension system
- ✔️ Reclining swivel captain’s seat
- ✔️ Advanced tiller with lighting controls
- ✔️ Dual-purpose wig-wag throttle
- ✔️ Extended outdoor driving capability
500 lb Heavy-Duty Weight Capacity
The defining specification of the Shoprider Excursion is its 500 lb maximum weight capacity. This places it in a significantly different category from many standard mobility scooters rated for 250 to 350 lbs.
Users searching for heavy duty mobility scooters 500 lbs are often looking for more than capacity alone. They may also need a larger seat, stronger frame, more substantial wheels, better suspension, improved outdoor stability, and additional room around the user. The Excursion addresses those needs as a complete heavy-duty mobility platform rather than simply increasing the rated load.
The correct scooter should still be selected according to the user’s total weight, body dimensions, seating needs, transfer ability, driving environment, and overall functional requirements.
Standard 20″ × 22″ Reclining Captain’s Seat
The Excursion comes standard with the SV202220RB 20-inch wide by 22-inch deep captain’s seat. This larger seating surface provides more room than the smaller stadium-style seats commonly found on portable mobility scooters.
The seat includes both swivel and recline functionality. Swivel operation can make it easier for an appropriate user to position themselves when getting on or off the scooter, while the manual reclining back provides additional comfort adjustment during longer periods of use.
The captain’s-style seat also provides a more substantial backrest and support surface than basic scooter seating, helping make the Excursion better suited to users who expect to spend longer periods seated while traveling.
Custom Seat Sizes & Seating Options Available
Although the 20″W × 22″D captain’s seat is the standard Excursion configuration, Shoprider offers additional seating options for users whose body dimensions or positioning needs require a different setup.
Alternative Shoprider seating can include different seat widths, depths, pan-style seating, and reclining configurations depending on current compatibility and availability. These options may carry an additional charge and should be selected according to the user’s actual measurements and support needs rather than simply choosing the largest seat available.
If you need a different seat size, contact MedCare Mobility before ordering. We can help review the currently available Shoprider seating configurations, verify compatibility with the Excursion, and provide current pricing for the appropriate seating upgrade.
Full Suspension for a Smoother Ride
The Shoprider Excursion incorporates a full suspension system, an important feature for a full-size heavy-duty mobility scooter intended for varied everyday surfaces.
Suspension helps absorb some of the movement transmitted through the wheels and chassis as the scooter travels over changes in pavement, sidewalk joints, driveways, and other appropriate terrain. Compared with scooters using limited or no suspension, this can contribute to a more controlled and comfortable ride.
The suspension system is particularly valuable when combined with the Excursion’s larger pneumatic tires and heavy-duty frame, helping distinguish it from compact travel scooters primarily designed around portability.
12.5-Inch Pneumatic Tires
The Excursion uses large 12.5-inch pneumatic tires. Pneumatic tires contain air and can provide additional cushioning and traction compared with small solid scooter tires when used on appropriate surfaces.
The larger wheel diameter is another reason the Excursion is better suited to outdoor-oriented mobility than many lightweight travel scooters. Larger wheels generally negotiate common surface transitions more effectively and work together with the full suspension system to improve ride quality.
As with any pneumatic tire, routine inspection and proper inflation according to the manufacturer’s instructions remain important.
4-Inch Ground Clearance for Outdoor Mobility
The Shoprider Excursion provides approximately 4 inches of ground clearance, giving it substantially more clearance than many compact mobility scooters.
Additional ground clearance can help when moving across appropriate outdoor environments where small transitions, surface changes, and uneven areas may be encountered. Combined with the large pneumatic wheels and full suspension, this creates a scooter better equipped for varied everyday terrain.
The Excursion should still be operated only on surfaces and slopes within the manufacturer’s specifications and should not be considered an unrestricted off-road vehicle.
Advanced Tiller with Integrated Controls
The Excursion features an advanced tiller that places important scooter controls directly in front of the user. The tiller houses controls for the lighting system, turn signals, horn, and driving functions, allowing the rider to access commonly used features from the operating position.
This integrated control arrangement is particularly useful on a larger Shoprider mobility scooter intended for community and outdoor use, where visibility, directional signaling, and convenient access to controls can become more important than on a basic indoor scooter.
Dual-Purpose Wig-Wag Throttle for Easier Driving
A distinctive feature of the Excursion is its dual-purpose wig-wag driving lever. The control is designed so the user can either push forward or pull backward on the drive lever depending on hand position, preference, and dexterity.
This provides greater flexibility than a control arrangement that requires one specific finger or hand movement. For users with reduced dexterity or a strong preference for one operating motion, the dual-purpose design can make throttle operation more intuitive.
Users should always confirm that they can safely operate the throttle, braking, steering, and other scooter controls before independent use.
Complete Lighting System & Turn Signals
The Excursion includes an integrated lighting system and turn signals, controlled through the advanced tiller. These features provide additional visibility and communication during appropriate low-light and outdoor operation.
The inclusion of lighting and turn signals helps reinforce the Excursion’s role as a full-size community mobility scooter rather than a minimal short-distance travel scooter.
Lighting aids visibility but does not make any mobility scooter equivalent to a licensed road vehicle. Users should always follow local rules and operate only in appropriate locations.
Up to 6.5 MPH Maximum Speed
The Shoprider Excursion has a listed maximum speed of approximately 6.5 mph. This is faster than many compact scooters limited to approximately 4 mph, reflecting the Excursion’s larger full-size design and community mobility focus.
The appropriate operating speed always depends on the environment. Users should reduce speed around pedestrians, turns, ramps, confined spaces, uneven areas, and other situations where slower operation improves control.
Extended Driving Range with Multiple Battery Options
The Excursion supports higher-capacity battery configurations intended for longer-distance mobility. Available configurations may include approximately 50Ah, 60Ah, or 75Ah battery options, with listed driving range increasing according to the selected battery setup.
Depending on battery configuration, the Excursion may provide a listed range of approximately up to 24, 29, or 37 miles. This makes it particularly attractive to users who need substantially more range than compact portable scooters typically offer.
Actual scooter range is never guaranteed and varies according to rider weight, battery age and condition, tire pressure, terrain, inclines, temperature, driving style, speed, maintenance, and other operating factors.
Safe Climbing Angle & Slope Capability
The Excursion has a listed safe climbing angle of approximately 8 degrees / 14%. This provides useful capability for appropriate ramps and inclines within the manufacturer’s operating guidelines.
Slope performance should never be judged solely by the maximum published angle. User weight, battery condition, surface traction, slope length, turning, weather, and approach direction all affect safe operation.
Users should avoid exceeding the manufacturer’s stated limits and should never turn sharply across steep slopes.
Large Full-Size Scooter Dimensions
The Shoprider Excursion measures approximately 27 inches wide by 56 inches long. These dimensions provide room for its heavy-duty frame, large captain’s seat, batteries, full suspension, and larger wheels.
Because this is a full-size scooter, buyers should measure the spaces where it will be stored and operated. Important areas to check include doorways, ramps, elevators, garages, vehicle lifts, hallways, and any other narrow access points.
The Excursion weighs substantially more than a portable travel scooter and is not designed around frequent manual lifting or trunk disassembly. Transportation generally requires a suitable mobility vehicle lift, ramp system, or accessible vehicle configuration.
Optional Shoprider Excursion Accessories
The Excursion can be configured with optional Shoprider accessories to better match the user’s daily routine and mobility needs. Depending on current availability and compatibility, options may include items such as oxygen tank holders, cup holders, rear storage baskets, cane holders, walker holders, armrest storage, lap belts, headrest components, and other seating or positioning accessories.
Accessories are optional unless specifically shown as included with the scooter configuration being purchased. Some accessories can also affect overall scooter dimensions, balance, storage requirements, or total weight.
Contact MedCare Mobility if you would like us to help configure the Excursion with compatible accessories or seating upgrades before ordering.
Shoprider Excursion vs. Standard Mobility Scooter
Shoprider Excursion
- ✔️ 500 lb heavy-duty capacity
- ✔️ 20″ × 22″ captain’s seat
- ✔️ Full suspension system
- ✔️ 12.5-inch pneumatic tires
- ✔️ 4-inch ground clearance
- ✔️ Advanced lighting and controls
- ✔️ Extended battery range options
Typical Compact Mobility Scooter
- ✔️ Lower 250–350 lb capacity
- ✔️ Smaller seating dimensions
- ✔️ Limited or no suspension
- ✔️ Smaller wheels and tires
- ✔️ Lower ground clearance
- ✔️ Shorter driving range
- ✔️ Easier vehicle portability
The Excursion is the stronger choice when capacity, seating space, ride comfort, outdoor capability, and driving range matter more than lightweight portability.
Who Is the Shoprider Excursion Best For?
The Shoprider Excursion mobility scooter may be particularly appropriate for users who require a higher-capacity, full-size mobility scooter for regular indoor and outdoor transportation.
It may be a strong option for:
- ✔️ Users weighing up to 500 lbs
- ✔️ Bariatric mobility scooter needs
- ✔️ Users needing larger seating
- ✔️ Longer community mobility trips
- ✔️ Outdoor sidewalk and pavement use
- ✔️ Users needing full suspension
- ✔️ Users wanting advanced driving controls
- ✔️ Riders needing extended battery range
Who May Need a Different Mobility Scooter?
The Excursion’s strength, capacity, and size also mean it is not the ideal scooter for every situation.
A different mobility scooter may be preferable for:
- ✔️ Frequent trunk transportation
- ✔️ Users needing lightweight disassembly
- ✔️ Extremely narrow indoor environments
- ✔️ Airline-oriented travel requirements
- ✔️ Users needing less than full-size seating
- ✔️ Homes with limited storage space
If portability is the highest priority, a smaller travel scooter may be more practical. If higher capacity, ride comfort, range, and outdoor performance matter more, the Excursion becomes a much stronger candidate.
