Description
Bariatric Trapeze Bar for Hospital Bed for Repositioning & Assisted Transfers
The Lumex Bariatric Trapeze Bar for Hospital Bed is a heavy-duty, freestanding bedside mobility aid designed to help appropriate users change position in bed and participate in transfers from the bed to other equipment with minimal assistance. Available in 450 lb and 600 lb assisted weight capacities, it provides higher-capacity support for users who need more than a standard bed trapeze can accommodate.
Unlike headboard-mounted trapezes that depend on a compatible bed frame, the Lumex Bariatric Trapeze comes complete with its own floor stand. This creates a freestanding support system that can be positioned with an appropriate bed without requiring the trapeze to clamp directly to a metal-frame headboard.
The overhead handbar location is fully adjustable, allowing the gripping point to be positioned according to the user’s reach and bedside setup. For someone with sufficient upper-body ability, the trapeze provides a secure point to grasp when shifting position, moving within the bed, or participating in an assisted transfer.
Two bariatric configurations are available: the Lumex 2940B with a 450 lb assisted weight capacity and the heavier-duty Lumex 2960B with a 600 lb assisted weight capacity. Both models include rubber bumper guards to help protect nearby walls and are designed to meet the requirements of HCPCS code E0912.
For buyers searching for a trapeze bar for hospital bed, medical bed trapeze bar, or higher-capacity bed trapeze for elderly and bariatric users, the Lumex Bariatric Trapeze combines a freestanding floor base, adjustable handbar, and substantial assisted capacity in one complete bedside mobility system.
Why the Lumex Bariatric Trapeze Stands Out
The Lumex Bariatric Trapeze is designed for users who need the function of an overhead bed trapeze but require greater assisted weight capacity and a complete freestanding configuration.
- ✔️ 450 or 600 lb capacity
- ✔️ Complete floor stand included
- ✔️ Fully adjustable handbar location
- ✔️ Helps with in-bed repositioning
- ✔️ Assists bed-to-equipment transfers
- ✔️ Freestanding bedside support system
- ✔️ Rubber wall-protection bumper guards
- ✔️ Designed for HCPCS E0912
For users who exceed the assisted capacity of a standard trapeze, the 2940B and 2960B provide two purpose-built bariatric options without requiring a separate floor stand purchase.
Designed Around Real Bed Mobility Problems
People searching for a trapeze bar for hospital bed are often trying to solve a specific mobility problem: the person can still participate in movement, but changing position in bed or preparing for a transfer has become difficult.
Common questions include:
- ✔️ How can someone reposition in bed?
- ✔️ What helps heavier patients move?
- ✔️ Is there a bariatric bed trapeze?
- ✔️ Can the handbar position adjust?
- ✔️ Does the trapeze include its stand?
- ✔️ Is a 600 lb model available?
- ✔️ Can it assist bedside transfers?
The Lumex Bariatric Trapeze addresses these needs by placing an adjustable overhead handhold within reach of the user and supporting it with a dedicated floor-standing frame.
For an appropriate user with functional upper-body strength, this can allow greater participation in repositioning and transfers instead of requiring the caregiver to perform all movement manually.
How Does a Trapeze Bar for Hospital Bed Help?
A hospital bed trapeze provides an overhead handhold that an appropriate user can grasp while lying or positioning themselves in bed. The user applies available arm and upper-body strength to assist with movement.
Depending on the person’s abilities and care needs, the trapeze may help with:
- ✔️ Changing position in bed
- ✔️ Repositioning the upper body
- ✔️ Moving toward bed edge
- ✔️ Preparing for assisted transfers
- ✔️ Participating in bed mobility
- ✔️ Reducing unnecessary caregiver lifting
The trapeze does not independently lift the patient. The user must be capable of safely grasping the handbar and actively participating in the intended movement.
Heavy-Duty Support for Bariatric Bed Mobility
Standard bed trapezes may not provide sufficient assisted capacity for every user. The Lumex Bariatric Trapeze is specifically offered in 450 lb and 600 lb assisted weight capacities to accommodate higher-capacity bedside mobility needs.
The two available models are:
- ✔️ 2940B: 450 lb assisted capacity
- ✔️ 2960B: 600 lb assisted capacity
This allows the appropriate model to be selected according to the user’s weight and the required assisted capacity rather than attempting to use a lower-rated standard trapeze.
Never exceed the stated assisted weight capacity of the selected model.
450 lb vs. 600 lb Bariatric Trapeze
Lumex 2940B
- ✔️ 450 lb assisted capacity
- ✔️ 76.88″ overall height
- ✔️ 28.88″ overall width
- ✔️ 40.5″ base length
- ✔️ 72 lb product weight
- ✔️ Floor stand included
Lumex 2960B
- ✔️ 600 lb assisted capacity
- ✔️ 80.63″ overall height
- ✔️ 29.25″ overall width
- ✔️ 41″ base length
- ✔️ 90 lb product weight
- ✔️ Floor stand included
The 2940B is the 450 lb model, while the 2960B provides the maximum 600 lb assisted capacity and uses a slightly larger and heavier frame.
Complete Floor Stand Included
One of the major differences between this bariatric trapeze and some standard trapeze configurations is that the floor stand is included.
This creates a complete freestanding configuration without requiring the user to purchase a separate floor base or rely on direct attachment to a compatible metal headboard.
The included floor stand can be especially valuable when:
- ✔️ Freestanding installation is preferred
- ✔️ Headboard mounting is unavailable
- ✔️ Bariatric capacity is required
- ✔️ Complete system is needed
- ✔️ Separate base purchase is undesirable
This also makes product selection more straightforward: the 2940B and 2960B are complete bariatric trapeze configurations rather than trapeze-only accessories.
Fully Adjustable Handbar Position
The location of the handbar is fully adjustable, allowing the gripping point to be positioned according to the user’s reach and bedside configuration.
Proper handbar positioning is important because the user should be able to reach the support without unnecessary stretching or awkward body positioning.
An adjustable handbar can be especially useful when:
- ✔️ User reach is limited
- ✔️ Bed position changes
- ✔️ Body positioning needs adjustment
- ✔️ Transfer setup changes
- ✔️ Individual needs vary
Handbar positioning should always support safe and appropriate use for the individual user.
Bed Trapeze for Elderly & Limited-Mobility Users
Families searching for a bed trapeze for elderly users are often looking for a way to help someone participate more actively in bed mobility without relying entirely on caregiver assistance.
For an older adult who retains sufficient grip and upper-body strength, an overhead trapeze may help with:
- ✔️ Adjusting position while lying down
- ✔️ Moving toward the bedside
- ✔️ Repositioning before sitting up
- ✔️ Preparing for caregiver assistance
- ✔️ Participating in transfer movements
However, age alone does not determine whether a trapeze is appropriate. The user must be able to safely grasp the handbar and participate in the movement. Someone who cannot do so may require a different type of transfer or positioning equipment.
Rubber Bumper Guards Help Protect Walls
The Lumex Bariatric Trapeze includes rubber bumper guards designed to help protect nearby walls from contact with the trapeze structure.
This is particularly useful when the equipment is positioned near the head of a bed where the frame may otherwise come close to the wall.
The bumper guards provide a practical protective feature for:
- ✔️ Home bedrooms
- ✔️ Hospital rooms
- ✔️ Rehabilitation settings
- ✔️ Long-term care rooms
- ✔️ Assisted living environments
Who Is This Medical Bed Trapeze Bar Best For?
The Lumex Bariatric Trapeze may be appropriate for individuals who require higher-capacity bedside mobility support and can actively participate in their own movement.
Potential users include:
- ✔️ Bariatric hospital-bed users
- ✔️ Seniors with reduced bed mobility
- ✔️ Users needing higher weight capacity
- ✔️ People recovering from surgery
- ✔️ Individuals with functional upper-body strength
- ✔️ Rehabilitation patients
- ✔️ Long-term care residents
- ✔️ Homecare patients
The trapeze may also benefit caregivers by giving an appropriate user a way to contribute to repositioning and transfer preparation rather than remaining completely passive during the movement.
Who May Need a Different Transfer Solution?
A bariatric trapeze is not the correct solution for every patient. Another type of mobility or transfer equipment may be needed when:
- ✔️ User cannot securely grip handbar
- ✔️ Upper-body strength is insufficient
- ✔️ Full-body lifting is required
- ✔️ User cannot participate in transfers
- ✔️ Weight exceeds selected model capacity
- ✔️ Clinical condition prevents safe use
When a person requires complete lifting rather than assisted repositioning, a properly selected patient lift and sling system may be more appropriate than a bed trapeze.
Bariatric Bed Trapeze vs. Standard Bed Trapeze
Lumex Bariatric Trapeze
- ✔️ 450–600 lb assisted capacities
- ✔️ Floor stand already included
- ✔️ Heavy-duty freestanding configuration
- ✔️ Designed for bariatric applications
- ✔️ HCPCS E0912 requirements
Standard Bed Trapeze
- ✔️ Typically lower assisted capacity
- ✔️ May mount to headboard
- ✔️ Floor stand may cost separately
- ✔️ Designed for standard-capacity users
- ✔️ Specifications vary by model
The Lumex Bariatric Trapeze is the stronger option when the user’s assisted weight requirement exceeds the capacity of a standard trapeze or when a complete heavy-duty freestanding configuration is preferred.
Bed Trapeze vs. Patient Lift
Lumex Bariatric Bed Trapeze
- ✔️ User actively participates
- ✔️ Uses available upper-body strength
- ✔️ Helps with bed repositioning
- ✔️ Assists transfer preparation
- ✔️ Does not fully lift patient
Patient Lift
- ✔️ Designed for supported transfers
- ✔️ Uses patient lift sling
- ✔️ Provides substantially more transfer assistance
- ✔️ Supports users during lifting
- ✔️ Different purpose and equipment category
A trapeze bar should not be used as a substitute for a patient lift when the individual requires full-body lifting or cannot safely participate in the transfer.
Common Problems This Trapeze Bar for Hospital Bed Helps Address
- ❌ Difficult to reposition in bed → ✔️ Adjustable overhead handbar
- ❌ Standard trapeze capacity too low → ✔️ 450–600 lb options
- ❌ Headboard mounting unavailable → ✔️ Floor stand included
- ❌ User needs transfer participation → ✔️ Assisted mobility support
- ❌ Fixed handbar position unsuitable → ✔️ Fully adjustable handbar
- ❌ Separate stand purchase required → ✔️ Complete freestanding configuration
- ❌ Wall contact is a concern → ✔️ Rubber bumper guards

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Lumex Bariatric Trapeze used for?
It is designed to help an appropriate user safely change position in bed and participate in transfers from the bed to other equipment with minimal assistance.
What is a trapeze bar for hospital bed used for?
A hospital bed trapeze provides an overhead handhold that a user with sufficient upper-body ability can grasp to assist with repositioning, moving within the bed, and preparing for assisted transfers.
What weight capacities are available?
The Lumex 2940B has a 450 lb assisted weight capacity, while the Lumex 2960B has a 600 lb assisted weight capacity.
Which Lumex bariatric trapeze should I choose?
The appropriate model depends primarily on the required assisted weight capacity and available space. The 2940B supports up to 450 lbs., while the larger 2960B supports up to 600 lbs. Never exceed the rated capacity of the selected model.
Does the Lumex Bariatric Trapeze include the floor stand?
Yes. Unlike trapeze-only configurations that require a separately purchased base, the Lumex Bariatric Trapeze comes with its floor stand.
Does this trapeze need to attach to a hospital bed headboard?
The provided manufacturer information identifies this bariatric trapeze as coming with a floor stand, providing a freestanding configuration rather than requiring a separately purchased floor base.
Can the handbar position be adjusted?
Yes. The handbar location is fully adjustable so it can be positioned according to the user’s reach and bedside setup.
Can this bed trapeze help an elderly person?
It may help an elderly user who has sufficient grip and upper-body strength to safely participate in repositioning and assisted mobility. A person’s individual abilities should determine whether a trapeze is appropriate.
Can the Lumex trapeze lift a patient?
No. The trapeze provides an overhead handhold that allows an appropriate user to assist with their own movement. It is not a patient lift and should not be used to suspend or fully lift someone.
What does assisted weight capacity mean?
Assisted weight capacity refers to use as an aid while the person actively participates in movement. The rating should not be interpreted as permission to suspend the user’s entire body weight from the trapeze.
How tall is the 2940B bariatric trapeze?
The Lumex 2940B has an overall height of approximately 76.88 inches, including the fixed bracket.

The rubber bumper guards are designed to help protect nearby walls from contact with the trapeze structure.
What tool is required for assembly?
A 14mm wrench is required for assembly.
Is a bariatric bed trapeze the same as a patient lift?
No. A trapeze relies on the user’s ability to grasp the overhead handbar and participate in movement. A patient lift is designed to provide substantially greater transfer assistance and typically supports the patient with a sling.
Who may not be appropriate for a bed trapeze?
A person who cannot safely grasp the handbar, lacks sufficient upper-body ability, cannot participate in transfers, or requires full-body lifting may need another type of transfer or positioning equipment.
What is HCPCS code E0912?
The Lumex Bariatric Trapeze is designed to meet the requirements associated with HCPCS E0912. The presence of the code does not guarantee Medicare or insurance coverage; eligibility and documentation requirements should be verified with the applicable payer.

Shipping & Returns
Shipping & Return Policy
At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.
Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.
Shipping & Order Processing
We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.
Processing Time
Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.
Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.
Transit & Delivery Time
Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.
Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.
Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas
Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.
Freight & Oversized Equipment
Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.
30-Day Return Policy
We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.
Eligible products generally include:
- Electric and power wheelchairs
- Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
- Mobility scooters
- Walkers and rollators
- Patient lifts
- Wheelchair ramps
- Hospital and homecare beds
- Eligible medical mattresses
- Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
- Overbed tables
- Bathroom benches and shower chairs
- Other eligible medical and mobility equipment
Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.
Return Authorization
Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.
You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.
Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.
Condition of Returned Merchandise
To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:
- In brand-new and unused condition
- In its complete original manufacturer packaging
- With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
- Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
- In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer
We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.
Restocking Fees
Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.
These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.
If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.
Return Shipping & Shipping Charges
The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.
Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.
Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.
Non-Returnable Products
For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.
We currently do not accept returns on:
- Parts & accessories
- Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
- Patient lift slings
- Custom or made-to-order products
- Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page
If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.
Damaged or Incorrect Orders
We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.
If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.
Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.
If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.
Refused Deliveries
Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.
A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.
Return Shipping Deadline
Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.
This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.
Refund Processing
Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.
The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.
If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.
Custom & Made-to-Order Products
Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.
For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.
If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.
Questions Before Ordering?
Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.
Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.
For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
