Description

Invacare Matrx Libra Wheelchair Cushion – Adjustable Skin Protection and Positioning Wheelchair Cushion

The Matrx Libra cushion is the adjustable cushion in Invacare’s Matrx line. Matrx calls it an adjustable skin protection and positioning cushion. It comes standard with a foam base, a fluid sac, a platilon inner liner and a Startex outer cover, and it’s rated for users up to 300 lbs.

What sets this positioning wheelchair cushion apart from an all-foam cushion is the fluid sac on an anatomically contoured foam base. Invacare says the base is shaped to optimize pelvic support and positioning, and the fluid sac needs no kneading or maintenance and isn’t temperature sensitive. Matrx also sells fit kit parts for the Libra, including fluid supplement pacs that can accommodate a pelvic obliquity (one hip sitting lower than the other) or add depth to the pelvic well, plus wedges and an abductor.

The Invacare Matrx Libra we carry comes with the Startex fabric outer cover. Choose your size (width x depth) in the dropdown above to match your wheelchair seat.

Why Choose the Matrx Libra?

The Libra is the one to pick when a standard cushion doesn’t quite fit the way someone sits. Invacare designed it around skin protection, positioning and adjustability: the contoured foam base gives the cushion its shape, and the fluid sac on top can be tuned with Matrx fit kit components. If posture changes later, parts can be added or swapped instead of replacing the whole cushion. Every Libra also comes with a platilon inner liner under the Startex outer cover.

Who Is the Matrx Libra Best For?

The Matrx Libra is a good fit for:

  • Wheelchair users who need both skin protection and positioning and want a cushion that can be adjusted
  • People with a pelvic obliquity (uneven hips) or other posture needs that a therapist wants to fine-tune with fit kit parts
  • Seating clinics and families who want to adjust a cushion over time rather than buy a new one
  • People who use their feet to move the chair or have tight hamstrings (Invacare designed the front edge for both)
  • Users who want a fluid-and-foam cushion instead of air, with a fluid sac that needs no kneading
  • Users up to 300 lbs in a 16″ to 20″ wide wheelchair seat

Comparing cushion types first? The Wheelchair Seat Cushions Knowledge Base covers foam, gel, fluid and air cushions in plain terms, and the Best Wheelchair Seat Cushion Guide walks through choosing one.

Who May Need a Different Cushion?

  • Users over 300 lbs: the standard Libra is rated for 300 lbs. Matrx lists a heavy-duty Libra rated up to 500 lbs in wider sizes; call us at 585-505-6665.
  • People who want a light, low-fuss cushion: the Invacare Matrx PSP Wheelchair Cushion starts at 2.2 lbs and needs no adjusting.
  • People who want a contoured foam cushion with a visco insert: the Invacare Matrx Vi Wheelchair Cushion is all foam with a molded visco insert under the sitting bones.
  • Anyone who needs the cushion set up for a specific posture: a therapist should recommend the fit kit parts. Call us and we’ll help order them.
  • Anyone with an open wound or pressure injury: talk to your doctor or therapist about the right cushion before you order.

Contoured Foam Base Plus Fluid Sac

Matrx builds the Libra on an anatomically contoured foam base, which Invacare says optimizes pelvic support and positioning, with a fluid sac on top. Invacare says the fluid sac requires no kneading or maintenance and isn’t temperature sensitive.

Adjustable With Matrx Fit Kit Parts

Matrx lists Libra fit kit components sold separately: fluid supplement pacs (one to accommodate a pelvic obliquity, or two side by side for extra depth in the pelvic well), a 1″ abductor, 1″ anterior seat wedges, a 1″ hemi wedge and ¾” tapered wedges. A complete replacement fluid sac is also available.

Waterfall Front Edge for Tight Hamstrings and Foot Propulsion

The front edge slopes down. Invacare says this waterfall front edge accommodates tight hamstrings and foot propulsion, which matters for people who scoot or steer the chair with their feet.

Platilon Inner Liner

Every Libra comes standard with a highly flexible platilon inner liner under the outer cover. Invacare says it adds an extra layer of moisture protection.

Stretchy, Breathable Startex Outer Cover

The Libra we carry comes with a moisture-resistant, high-stretch, breathable Startex outer cover (Invacare’s item description reads “Startex Fabric”). Matrx also offers Spacetex and infection control outer covers; ask us if you need one.

Choosing Your Options

There’s one dropdown: Size (W x D), the cushion’s width by depth in inches. Match it to your wheelchair’s seat width and seat depth, not to the person’s hip size. All four sizes have the same construction and covers; only the footprint changes.

Size (W x D) Invacare item # Fits seat width Fits seat depth
16″ x 16″ LC1616 16″ 16″ to 17″
18″ x 16″ LC1816 18″ 16″ to 17″
18″ x 18″ LC1818 18″ 18″ to 19″
20″ x 18″ LC2018 20″ 18″ to 19″

Unlike the other Matrx cushions, Matrx says the Libra’s actual width is the stated width. Its actual depth is 1½” longer than stated because of the rear cushion radius, which is why an 18″ deep Libra fits seats 18″ to 19″ deep. Need a size that isn’t listed? Invacare makes other widths and depths in the Matrx line; call us at 585-505-6665.

Matrx Libra vs. Matrx Vi

Both are Invacare Matrx cushions for skin protection and positioning, rated for 300 lbs in standard sizes. The Matrx Vi is all foam: soft and firm foam layers with a molded visco foam insert under the sitting bones, ready to use out of the box. The Libra adds a fluid sac over a foam base, and Matrx sells fit kit parts to adjust it for a pelvic obliquity or a deeper pelvic well. Choose the Vi for a contoured foam cushion with no setup. Choose the Libra when the cushion needs to be tuned to the person. For the lightest option, see the Matrx PSP.

Common Problem → Matrx Libra Solution

Problem: Mom’s therapist noticed she sits with one hip lower than the other, and her flat cushion does nothing about it. The family doesn’t want to buy a new cushion every time her seating needs change.

Solution: The Matrx Libra has a fluid sac over a foam base, and Matrx sells fluid supplement pacs that can accommodate a pelvic obliquity, plus wedges and an abductor. Her therapist can set it up for how she sits now and change parts later.

“Can we order the extra fit kit parts from you?” Yes. Call us at 585-505-6665 with the cushion size and the parts the therapist wants.

Sizing & Fit

  • Seat width: measure across the wheelchair seat, side to side. The Libra’s width matches its stated size (16″, 18″ or 20″).
  • Seat depth: measure from the back upholstery to the front edge of the seat, then use the fit table above.
  • Height and weight of the cushion: Matrx doesn’t list them on the documents we have. Ask us before you order if armrest or footrest height is tight.
  • Weight capacity: 300 lbs in standard sizes.
  • Not sure? Call us at 585-505-6665 with your chair’s make and seat size.

Care & Cleaning

Follow Invacare’s care instructions that come with the cushion and the care label on the cover. The fluid sac needs no kneading, according to Invacare. Check the cushion and covers regularly as part of daily use, and call us at 585-505-6665 if anything looks damaged or the cushion doesn’t sit the way it should.

What’s Included

Matrx lists the standard Libra with its foam base, fluid sac, platilon inner liner and Startex outer cover. Fit kit parts (fluid supplements, wedges, abductor), extra covers and a replacement fluid sac are sold separately. Ask us if you need any of them.

Warranty

The Matrx documents we have don’t state the Libra’s warranty. Ask us for the current warranty terms. As an authorized Invacare dealer, we’ll help with any claim.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Invacare Matrx Libra cushion?

It’s an adjustable skin protection and positioning wheelchair cushion from Invacare’s Matrx line. It has a foam base with a fluid sac on top, a platilon inner liner and a Startex outer cover.

How much weight does it hold?

The standard Libra sizes we carry are rated for 300 lbs. Matrx lists a heavy-duty Libra rated up to 500 lbs; call us to order one.

What does “adjustable” mean on this cushion?

It means the fluid sac can be fine-tuned with Matrx fit kit parts. For example, fluid supplement pacs can accommodate a pelvic obliquity, or two can go side by side for extra depth in the pelvic well. Wedges and an abductor are also available.

Are the fit kit parts included?

No. The Libra comes with the foam base, fluid sac, inner liner and outer cover. Fit kit parts are sold separately; call us at 585-505-6665 to order them.

Is the Libra an air cushion?

No. It’s a foam base with a fluid sac, so there’s no air to pump up.

Does the fluid sac need kneading or maintenance?

No. Invacare says the Libra’s fluid sac requires no kneading or maintenance and isn’t temperature sensitive.

What size should I order?

Match the cushion to your wheelchair seat width and depth. The Libra’s width matches its stated size, and Matrx says each depth fits a 1″ range, for example 18″ deep fits seats 18″ to 19″ deep.

Which outer cover comes on it?

The Libra we carry comes with the Startex fabric outer cover. Matrx also makes Spacetex and infection control covers; ask us.

How tall and how heavy is the Libra?

Matrx doesn’t list the Libra’s height or weight on the documents we have. Call us and we’ll confirm before you order.

Who should set up the cushion?

A therapist or seating specialist is the right person to decide which fit kit parts to add. We can help you order what they recommend.

How is the Libra different from the Matrx Vi and PSP?

The Libra is the adjustable one, with a fluid sac over foam. The Vi is all foam with a visco foam insert. The PSP is the lightest, with a polymer insert in molded foam.

What warranty does it have?

The Matrx documents we have don’t state it. Ask us for the current warranty terms.

Shipping & Returns

Shipping & Return Policy

At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.

Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.

Shipping & Order Processing

We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.

Processing Time

Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.

Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.

Transit & Delivery Time

Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.

Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.

Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas

Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.

Freight & Oversized Equipment

Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.

30-Day Return Policy

We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.

Eligible products generally include:

  • Electric and power wheelchairs
  • Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
  • Mobility scooters
  • Walkers and rollators
  • Patient lifts
  • Wheelchair ramps
  • Hospital and homecare beds
  • Eligible medical mattresses
  • Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
  • Overbed tables
  • Bathroom benches and shower chairs
  • Other eligible medical and mobility equipment

Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.

Return Authorization

Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.

You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.

Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.

Condition of Returned Merchandise

To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:

  • In brand-new and unused condition
  • In its complete original manufacturer packaging
  • With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
  • Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
  • In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer

We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.

Restocking Fees

Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.

These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.

If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.

Return Shipping & Shipping Charges

The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.

Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.

Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.

Non-Returnable Products

For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.

We currently do not accept returns on:

  • Parts & accessories
  • Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
  • Patient lift slings
  • Custom or made-to-order products
  • Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page

If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.

Damaged or Incorrect Orders

We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.

If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.

Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.

If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.

Refused Deliveries

Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.

A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.

Return Shipping Deadline

Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.

This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.

Refund Processing

Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.

The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.

If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.

Custom & Made-to-Order Products

Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.

For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.

If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.

Questions Before Ordering?

Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.

Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.

For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
