Description

Invacare Matrx PSP (Posture Seat Polymer) Wheelchair Cushion – Molded Foam With a Polymer Insert

The Matrx PSP cushion (Posture Seat Polymer) is the lightest and simplest of the three Invacare Matrx cushions we carry. Invacare says it combines the stability and support of the Matrx PS foam base with a polymer overlay for extra protection and shear reduction. The standard sizes start at just 2.2 lbs and are rated for users up to 300 lbs.

This wheelchair positioning cushion has a base of molded high resilient polyurethane foam made with Ultra-Fresh anti-microbial. A molded polymer insert sits in a waffled relief zone under the sitting bones, so that area can sink in, and Invacare designed the shape to off-load the hips and thighs for support and stability.

The Invacare Matrx PSP comes with a Startex inner cover and a reversible Startex outer cover. Invacare calls it an ultra-lightweight, zero-maintenance cushion for skin protection and positioning. Pick your size (width x depth) in the dropdown above to match your wheelchair seat.

Why Choose the Matrx PSP?

The PSP is for people who want a good everyday cushion without anything to manage. There’s no air to pump and no fluid to adjust; it’s molded foam with a polymer insert, in covers that resist moisture and breathe. It’s also light, starting at 2.2 lbs, which makes a difference for anyone who takes the cushion in and out of a car with a folding wheelchair.

Who Is the Matrx PSP Best For?

The Matrx PSP is a good fit for:

  • Everyday wheelchair users who want a light, low-fuss cushion with some protection and positioning
  • Caregivers who lift the cushion and folding chair in and out of a car
  • People who don’t want a cushion that has to be inflated or adjusted
  • Users who like a reversible cover (smooth side or fabric side up)
  • Users up to 300 lbs in a 16″ to 20″ wide wheelchair seat

Still deciding? Our Best Wheelchair Seat Cushion Guide compares cushion types, and the Wheelchair Seat Cushions Knowledge Base answers common sizing and care questions.

Who May Need a Different Cushion?

  • Users over 300 lbs: Invacare makes a heavy-duty PSP rated for 600 lbs in wider sizes; call us at 585-505-6665.
  • People Invacare would place at moderate to high risk of skin breakdown: the Invacare Matrx Vi Wheelchair Cushion is Invacare’s cushion designed for that group, with a molded visco foam insert.
  • People who need the cushion tuned to their posture: the Invacare Matrx Libra Wheelchair Cushion has a fluid sac that can be adjusted with Matrx fit kit parts.
  • People who specifically want an air cushion: the PSP has no air cells. Browse our wheelchair seat cushions for air options.
  • Anyone with an open wound or pressure injury: talk to your doctor or therapist about the right cushion before you order.

Molded Polymer Insert for Protection and Shear Reduction

A molded polymer insert sits on the foam base. Invacare says it adds extra protection and shear reduction (less rubbing and dragging of the skin when you shift).

Waffled Relief Zone Under the Sitting Bones

Under the ischial area (the sitting bones) Invacare molds a waffled relief zone that lets that area sink in, which Invacare calls immersion.

Molded High Resilient Foam Base

The base is molded high resilient polyurethane foam made with Ultra-Fresh anti-microbial. It’s gently contoured for a neutral leg position and designed to off-load the hips and thighs for support and stability, with a rear cushion radius and a waterfall front edge.

Starts at Just 2.2 lbs

Invacare lists the standard PSP at 2.2 lbs and up. It’s 3.5″ tall at the abductor and adductor, with a 2.75″ leg trough height.

Reversible Startex Outer Cover Plus Inner Cover

The Startex outer cover is reversible, so you can use it smooth side or fabric side out. It’s moisture resistant and breathable to help keep you cool and dry, and it has hook and loop strips. A Startex inner cover adds extra moisture protection.

Choosing Your Options

There’s one dropdown: Size (W x D), the cushion’s width by depth in inches. Match it to your wheelchair’s seat width and seat depth, not to the person’s hip size. All four sizes have the same construction and covers; only the footprint changes.

Size (W x D) Invacare item # Fits seat width Fits seat depth
16″ x 16″ PSP1616 15″ to 16″ 16″ to 17″
18″ x 16″ PSP1816 17″ to 18″ 16″ to 17″
18″ x 18″ PSP1818 17″ to 18″ 18″ to 19″
20″ x 18″ PSP2018 19″ to 20″ 18″ to 19″

Matrx notes that the standard PSP’s actual width is ½” narrower than the stated size and its actual depth is 1¼” longer, because of the rear cushion radius. That’s why a 16″ x 16″ PSP fits a seat 15″ to 16″ wide and 16″ to 17″ deep. Need a size that isn’t listed? Invacare makes other widths and depths in the Matrx line; call us at 585-505-6665.

Matrx PSP vs. an Air Cushion

Some shoppers compare the PSP with air cushions because both aim for skin protection and immersion. The PSP is not an air cushion. It gets its immersion from a waffled relief zone and a molded polymer insert in a foam base, so there are no air cells to inflate, check or puncture, which is why Invacare calls it zero maintenance. If you want a true air cushion, browse our wheelchair seat cushions. Within the Matrx line, the Matrx Vi is the deeper-contoured skin protection cushion and the Matrx Libra is the adjustable fluid-and-foam option.

Common Problem → Matrx PSP Solution

Problem: Grandpa’s old cushion is heavy and slides around, and the family loads his folding wheelchair into the car several times a week. They don’t want an air cushion they have to check before every trip.

Solution: The Matrx PSP starts at 2.2 lbs, has hook and loop strips on its cover, and is molded foam with a polymer insert, so there’s nothing to inflate. The reversible Startex cover is moisture resistant and breathable.

“Which size fits his 18 x 18 chair?” Choose the 18″ x 18″ size; Matrx says it fits seats 17″ to 18″ wide and 18″ to 19″ deep.

Sizing & Fit

  • Seat width: measure across the wheelchair seat, side to side. Pick the size whose fit range covers it (table above).
  • Seat depth: measure from the back upholstery to the front edge of the seat.
  • Height: the PSP is 3.5″ tall at the abductor and adductor, with a 2.75″ leg trough height. Check armrest and footrest heights with the cushion in place.
  • Weight capacity: 300 lbs in standard sizes.
  • Not sure? Call us at 585-505-6665 with your chair’s make and seat size.

Care & Cleaning

The PSP needs no inflating or adjusting. For cleaning the covers, follow the care label and Invacare’s instructions that come with the cushion. Check the cushion and covers regularly, and call us at 585-505-6665 with any questions.

What’s Included

Invacare lists the PSP with a Startex inner cover and a reversible Startex outer cover on the molded foam cushion. The pelvic obliquity kit (POK, 2 pieces, accommodates up to 1″ of obliquity) and the cushion rigidizer (a light, low-profile insert for sling seats) are optional and sold separately. Ask us if you need either.

Warranty

Invacare’s Matrx PSP sheet lists a 2-year limited warranty on the standard PSP. Ask us for the current warranty terms. As an authorized Invacare dealer, we’ll help with any claim.

Shipping & Returns

Shipping & Return Policy

At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.

Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.

Shipping & Order Processing

We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.

Processing Time

Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.

Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.

Transit & Delivery Time

Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.

Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.

Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas

Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.

Freight & Oversized Equipment

Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.

30-Day Return Policy

We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.

Eligible products generally include:

  • Electric and power wheelchairs
  • Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
  • Mobility scooters
  • Walkers and rollators
  • Patient lifts
  • Wheelchair ramps
  • Hospital and homecare beds
  • Eligible medical mattresses
  • Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
  • Overbed tables
  • Bathroom benches and shower chairs
  • Other eligible medical and mobility equipment

Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.

Return Authorization

Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.

You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.

Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.

Condition of Returned Merchandise

To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:

  • In brand-new and unused condition
  • In its complete original manufacturer packaging
  • With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
  • Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
  • In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer

We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.

Restocking Fees

Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.

These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.

If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.

Return Shipping & Shipping Charges

The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.

Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.

Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.

Non-Returnable Products

For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.

We currently do not accept returns on:

  • Parts & accessories
  • Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
  • Patient lift slings
  • Custom or made-to-order products
  • Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page

If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.

Damaged or Incorrect Orders

We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.

If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.

Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.

If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.

Refused Deliveries

Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.

A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.

Return Shipping Deadline

Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.

This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.

Refund Processing

Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.

The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.

If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.

Custom & Made-to-Order Products

Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.

For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.

If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.

Questions Before Ordering?

Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.

Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.

For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
