Description

Invacare Softform Premier Mattress – 6″ Hospital Bed Foam Mattress With Built-In Side Support, 500 lb Capacity

The Softform Premier mattress is Invacare’s top foam mattress for hospital beds. It’s 6″ thick and 36″ wide, comes in 80″ and 84″ lengths, and Invacare rates it for 500 lbs. Invacare lists the resident risk level for the Softform Premier as low to very high.

Inside is a single-piece foam U-core that wraps a removable insert of 2.5 lb high-resiliency foam. The insert is cut into mushroom-shaped cells, which Invacare says let the person sink into the foam for more body contact and better pressure redistribution. That’s why people searching for a pressure redistribution foam mattress for a home hospital bed end up comparing this one.

The cover is a fluid-resistant, four-way stretch polyurethane with high-frequency welded seams and a full flap over the zipper. It comes off completely for washing, replacement or a look at the foam. As a hospital bed foam mattress, it meets TB 129, 16 CFR 1632 and 16 CFR 1633, and Invacare backs the foam for 8 years and the cover for 4.

Why Choose the Invacare Softform Premier?

It’s the foam mattress Invacare builds for people who spend long hours in bed. Invacare uses 2.5 lb high-resiliency foam because, in its words, higher-density foam keeps its shape and comfort longer than lower-density foam. Add the built-in side support, a cover designed to help reduce shear and friction, and an 8-year foam warranty, and it’s a step up from a basic hospital bed mattress.

Single-Piece U-Core With Built-In Side Support

The outer core is one piece of foam shaped like a “U”, not glued sections. Invacare says that makes a stronger, more durable mattress, and the firm side walls give support at the edge that helps when the person sits up or transfers out of bed.

Mushroom-Cell, High-Resiliency Foam Insert

The removable insert is 2.5 lb high-resiliency polyurethane foam cut into castellated, mushroom-shaped cells. Invacare explains that the cells break up the surface tension of the foam, so the body sinks in and more of it touches the mattress. That spreads pressure over a larger area.

Four-Way Stretch Cover With a Concealed Zipper

The cover stretches in every direction and is fluid-resistant, with a tough coated polyurethane base. Its seams are high-frequency welded, and a full flap hides the zipper to reduce the chance of fluids getting in. Invacare designed the cover to help reduce shear and friction on the skin.

Choosing Your Options

There’s one dropdown: Size. Every size is 36″ wide and 6″ thick and is rated for 500 lbs. Pick the length that matches your bed deck.

80″ or 84″. Choose 80″ for a standard hospital bed deck, like the 80″ x 36″ sleep surface on the Invacare IVC full-electric homecare bed. Choose 84″ only if the deck is 84″ long, which usually means a bed with an extended frame.

Two codes per length. Invacare’s brochure lists the same dimensions, capacity, fire-safety compliance and warranty for IPM1080 and IPM1180 (and for IPM1084 and IPM1184). If you’re not sure which to pick, call us at 585-505-6665 and we’ll confirm with Invacare.

Size option Invacare code Dimensions Capacity
36″ x 80″ (IPM1080) IPM1080 80″ L x 36″ W x 6″ H 500 lb
36″ x 80″ x 6″ (IPM1180) IPM1180 80″ L x 36″ W x 6″ H 500 lb
36″ x 84″ (IPM1084) IPM1084 84″ L x 36″ W x 6″ H 500 lb
36″ x 84″ x 6″ (IPM1184) IPM1184 84″ L x 36″ W x 6″ H 500 lb

80″ vs. 84″: Measure the Bed Deck First

Measure the flat platform the mattress sits on, not the bed frame. Invacare’s IVC full-electric homecare bed, for example, has an 88″ frame but an 80″ x 36″ sleep surface, so it takes an 80″ mattress. A mattress that’s longer or shorter than the deck leaves a gap or hangs over the end.

Who Is the Softform Premier Best For?

This mattress is a good fit for:

  • People who spend most of the day in a home hospital bed
  • Families upgrading from an innerspring or basic foam mattress
  • Users up to 500 lbs on a standard 36″-wide hospital bed
  • Caregivers who want a cover that comes off for laundering and foam checks
  • Beds with an 84″ deck that need a matching length

Still deciding on a mattress type? Our Medical Mattress Knowledge Base explains the options, and the Hospital Bed Mattress Assessment Tool gives a quick recommendation.

Who May Need a Different Mattress?

Common Problem → Softform Premier Solution

Problem: Dad is in his hospital bed most of the day now, and the basic mattress it came with feels hard and flat. The family wants something better but isn’t sure what will fit.

Solution: His Invacare bed has an 80″ x 36″ sleep surface, so the Softform Premier in 80″ drops right in. The mushroom-cell foam insert lets him sink in, and the U-core gives a firm edge when he sits up.

“Can we wash the cover?” Yes. It zips off completely for laundering, and the zipper sits under a full flap.

Sizing & Fit

  • Width and thickness: 36″ wide, 6″ thick on all four sizes.
  • Length: 80″ (IPM1080, IPM1180) or 84″ (IPM1084, IPM1184).
  • Capacity: 500 lbs.
  • Bed match: the 80″ sizes fit an 80″ x 36″ sleep surface such as the Invacare IVC Full-Electric Homecare Bed.

Care & Cleaning

The cover is fully removable for laundering, replacement and foam inspection. Follow the care instructions Invacare supplies with the mattress. Invacare also sells raised side rail (RSR) covers separately for people who need extra side support; ask us.

What’s Included

  • One Invacare Softform Premier mattress (U-core, foam insert and cover) in the size you choose

The bed frame and rails are sold separately.

Warranty

Invacare’s limited warranty on the Softform Premier is 8 years on the foam and 4 years on the cover. Call 585-505-6665 and we’ll help with any claim.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Invacare Softform Premier mattress?

It’s Invacare’s 6″ foam hospital bed mattress with a single-piece U-core, a removable high-resiliency foam insert and a four-way stretch cover. Invacare rates it for 500 lbs.

How much weight does it hold?

500 lbs on all four sizes, per Invacare. Invacare’s bariatric Softform Premier models are rated for 650 lbs and sold separately.

What sizes are available?

Four Invacare codes, all 36″ wide and 6″ thick: IPM1080 and IPM1180 are 80″ long, and IPM1084 and IPM1184 are 84″ long.

Should I get the 80″ or the 84″ length?

Match the bed deck. Most home hospital beds take 80″; choose 84″ only if the deck the mattress sits on measures 84″.

What’s the difference between IPM1080 and IPM1180?

Invacare’s brochure lists the same dimensions, 500 lb capacity, fire-safety compliance and warranty for both. Call us at 585-505-6665 if you want us to confirm with Invacare before you order.

What risk level is it for?

Invacare lists the resident risk level for the Softform Premier as low to very high. Ask the person’s care team which support surface they recommend.

What’s inside the mattress?

A single-piece foam U-core around a removable insert of 2.5 lb high-resiliency foam cut into mushroom-shaped cells. Invacare says the cells let the body sink in for more contact and better pressure redistribution.

Does it help with getting in and out of bed?

Yes, that’s what the U-core is for. Invacare says the one-piece foam side walls give side support and help with transfers.

Can I remove and wash the cover?

Yes. The cover is fully removable for laundering, replacement and foam inspection, and the zipper is hidden under a full flap. Follow Invacare’s care instructions.

Will it fit the Invacare IVC full-electric homecare bed?

Yes, in the 80″ sizes. Invacare gives that bed an 80″ x 36″ sleep surface, which matches this 36″ x 80″ mattress.

Does it meet fire safety standards?

Yes. Invacare lists TB 129, 16 CFR 1632 and 16 CFR 1633 compliance for the Softform Premier.

What’s the warranty?

Shipping & Returns

Shipping & Return Policy

At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.

Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.

Shipping & Order Processing

We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.

Processing Time

Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.

Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.

Transit & Delivery Time

Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.

Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.

Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas

Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.

Freight & Oversized Equipment

Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.

30-Day Return Policy

We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.

Eligible products generally include:

  • Electric and power wheelchairs
  • Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
  • Mobility scooters
  • Walkers and rollators
  • Patient lifts
  • Wheelchair ramps
  • Hospital and homecare beds
  • Eligible medical mattresses
  • Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
  • Overbed tables
  • Bathroom benches and shower chairs
  • Other eligible medical and mobility equipment

Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.

Return Authorization

Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.

You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.

Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.

Condition of Returned Merchandise

To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:

  • In brand-new and unused condition
  • In its complete original manufacturer packaging
  • With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
  • Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
  • In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer

We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.

Restocking Fees

Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.

These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.

If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.

Return Shipping & Shipping Charges

The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.

Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.

Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.

Non-Returnable Products

For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.

We currently do not accept returns on:

  • Parts & accessories
  • Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
  • Patient lift slings
  • Custom or made-to-order products
  • Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page

If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.

Damaged or Incorrect Orders

We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.

If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.

Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.

If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.

Refused Deliveries

Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.

A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.

Return Shipping Deadline

Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.

This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.

Refund Processing

Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.

The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.

If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.

Custom & Made-to-Order Products

Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.

For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.

If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.

Questions Before Ordering?

Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.

Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.

For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
