Description

Lumex Padded Bath Seat with Arms – Padded Shower Chair with Backrest, 300 lb Capacity

The Lumex Padded Bath Seat with Arms is a padded shower chair with arms for anyone who needs to sit down to wash and wants something softer than a hard plastic seat. The seat and backrest are cushioned and water-tight, the frame is anodized aluminum, and the arms give you something solid to hold while you lower yourself down and push back up. Graham-Field rates it for 300 lbs, evenly distributed.

As a padded bath seat, it works in a bathtub or a walk-in shower. The 16″ x 16″ seat adjusts from 18″ to 22″ high in 1″ steps, the backrest rises 16″ above the seat, and the whole chair takes up 23″ wide by 21″ deep. It goes together without tools and knocks down again when you need to pack it for a trip.

If you’ve been shopping for a padded shower seat with arms because a bare plastic chair is cold, hard or uncomfortable to sit on for a full shower, this is the one we point people to. It’s made by Lumex, a Graham-Field brand, and we ship it nationwide, delivered to your door.

Why Choose the Lumex Padded Shower Chair with Arms?

Most bath seats are a plastic shell on four legs. That’s fine for a quick rinse, but it’s not comfortable for someone who sits for the whole shower, has thin skin or just feels every hard edge. The Lumex seat adds padding to both the seat and the back, and Graham-Field makes the padding water-tight so it doesn’t soak up water and wipes clean.

You also get arms on both sides. Arms matter more than people expect: they give the user a steady place to put their hands while sitting down and standing up, and they make it harder to slide off the side of a wet seat. The light aluminum frame resists rust and the height adjusts, so the chair can be set for the person using it.

Who Is the Lumex Padded Bath Seat Best For?

  • Seniors who get tired or unsteady standing through a full shower
  • People recovering from hip, knee or back surgery who have been told to sit while bathing
  • Anyone with balance problems, dizziness or weakness in the legs who needs arms to push up from
  • Users who find a hard plastic seat uncomfortable, or who have sensitive skin
  • Caregivers who want the person seated and steady while they help with washing
  • Travelers who need a bath seat that comes apart for the car

Not sure which kind of seat you need? Our guide to the types of bathroom and shower chairs for the elderly walks through seats, benches and commode chairs side by side.

Who May Need a Different Bath Seat?

If the user can’t safely step over the side of the tub, a seat that sits inside the tub won’t solve that. A transfer bench straddles the tub wall so they can sit down outside the tub and slide across. If the user weighs more than 300 lbs, or the chair needs to be rolled from the bedroom into the shower, look at our shower wheelchairs and shower commode chairs instead. And if the user needs a wider seat than 16″, ask us about benches with a wider seat.

300 lb Weight Capacity

Graham-Field rates the padded bath seat for up to 300 lbs (136.08 kg), with the weight evenly distributed. That means sitting squarely in the middle of the seat, not perching on the front edge or putting all your weight on one arm. For a user close to or over 300 lbs, call us and we’ll suggest a heavier-rated chair.

Seat Height Adjusts From 18″ to 22″ in 1″ Steps

The four legs adjust from a minimum seat height of 18″ to a maximum of 22″, in 1″ increments, so there are five settings to choose from. Each leg sets with a push button that clicks through an adjustment hole. A lower setting usually suits a shorter user or a deep tub, and a higher setting makes it easier for a taller user, or someone with stiff hips or knees, to stand back up. Lumex says to set all four legs to the same height, with every push button fully through its hole, before each use.

Padded, Water-Tight Seat and 16″ Backrest

The cushioned seat measures 16″ wide by 16″ deep, and the cushioned backrest stands 16″ above the seat. Graham-Field describes both as water-tight and easy to clean, so water stays on the surface instead of soaking in. The backrest gives the user something to lean against while a caregiver washes their hair or back.

Lightweight, Rust-Resistant Aluminum Frame

The frame is anodized aluminum, which Graham-Field describes as lightweight, durable and rust-resistant. That matters in a bathroom where the chair stays wet day after day. A light frame is also easier to lift in and out of the tub when other family members want to shower.

Tool-Free Assembly and Knock-Down Design

The seat goes together without tools: the legs and the backrest support tubes slide on and lock with push buttons. The knock-down design lets you take it apart again to make it easier to carry, so if you split time between two homes or visit family, it can come with you in the trunk.

Lumex Padded Bath Seat vs. a Plastic Bath Bench

A plastic bath bench like the McKesson Bath Bench with Removable Arms is a good budget choice and has a wider seat. It’s a hard molded seat, though, and that’s where the Lumex is different: cushioned seat, cushioned back and an aluminum frame.

Pick the plastic bench if the user is in and out quickly and wants more room side to side. Pick the Lumex padded seat if the user sits for a while, finds hard seats uncomfortable, or needs firm arms on both sides to get up.

Common Problem → Lumex Padded Bath Seat Solution

Problem: Mom sits on a plastic shower chair, but she says it hurts after a few minutes and she rushes through her shower.

Solution: The Lumex seat and backrest are cushioned, so sitting for the whole shower is more comfortable, and the arms help her get up at the end without grabbing a towel bar.

“Won’t the padding get soggy?” Graham-Field makes the seat and backrest water-tight, so water doesn’t soak in. Wipe it down and let it dry after use.

Sizing & Fit

  • Tub floor: Lumex says to use this seat only on tub floors wider than 18 3/4″. Measure the flat bottom of the tub, not the rim. The chair itself takes up 23″ wide by 21″ deep, so check a shower stall the same way.
  • Seat height: with the user seated, their feet should rest flat on the floor with knees about level with the hips. Measure from the floor to the back of the knee in bare feet and pick the setting between 18″ and 22″ closest to that number.
  • Seat width: the seat is 16″ wide. If the user’s hips measure wider than that when seated, a bench with a wider seat will be more comfortable.

Give us your measurements at 585-505-6665 and we’ll double-check the fit before it ships.

Care & Cleaning

Lumex’s instructions say to clean the seat with a mild soap and water solution, rinse with clear water and dry with a soft cloth. Don’t use organic solvents, abrasive cleaners or scouring pads on any part of it, and don’t submerge it in water. Check that the nuts, bolts and knobs are tight once a week, and check the leg tips for rips, cracks or wear; Lumex says to replace worn tips right away.

A few safety points from the same instructions: all four leg tips should touch the tub or shower floor, don’t put your weight on the backrest or on one corner of the seat, and don’t lean or reach so far that you slide forward. Users with limited strength or balance should have someone with them until they’re used to it.

What’s Included

The box holds the seat frame with its padded seat and arms, four adjustable legs, and the padded backrest with its two support tubes, ready for tool-free assembly. Lumex lists the quantity as one seat per box. Ask us if you’d like us to confirm anything else.

Lumex Padded Bath Seat Warranty

Graham-Field’s product page and spec sheet list a three (3) year limited warranty for this seat. Ask us if you’d like the full warranty terms.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Lumex Padded Bath Seat with Arms?

It’s a bath and shower seat with a cushioned, water-tight seat and backrest, arms on both sides and a rust-resistant anodized aluminum frame. The seat adjusts from 18″ to 22″ high and Graham-Field rates it for 300 lbs.

How much weight can the padded bath seat hold?

Graham-Field rates it for 300 lbs (136.08 kg), evenly distributed. Sit in the middle of the seat rather than on the front edge, and call us if the user is close to or over 300 lbs.

How high does the seat adjust?

The seat height adjusts from 18″ to 22″ in 1″ increments. Pick the setting that lets the user sit with feet flat on the floor and knees about level with the hips.

Will it fit in my bathtub?

It fits most standard tubs. Lumex says the tub floor must be wider than 18 3/4″, and the chair takes up 23″ wide by 21″ deep, so measure the flat bottom of your tub and call us if you’re close.

Is the padding waterproof?

Graham-Field describes the cushioned seat and backrest as water-tight and easy to clean. Water stays on the surface, so wipe it down and let it dry after each shower.

Will the frame rust?

The frame is anodized aluminum, which Graham-Field describes as rust-resistant. Rinsing it after use and letting it dry helps it last.

Do I need tools to put it together?

No. Graham-Field lists quick and easy tool-free assembly; the legs and backrest lock on with push buttons.

Can I take it apart for travel?

Yes. The knock-down design comes apart to make transporting it easier, so it can go in the trunk for a trip.

Does it have a backrest?

Yes. The cushioned backrest stands 16″ above the seat, so the user can lean back while they wash or while a caregiver helps.

How wide is the seat?

The seat is 16″ wide and 16″ deep, and the chair measures 23″ wide overall with the arms. If the user needs more room than a 16″ seat, ask us about a wider bench.

Should I get a bath seat or a transfer bench?

Get a bath seat if the user can step into the tub or shower safely and just needs to sit. Get a transfer bench if stepping over the tub wall is the hard part, because a bench lets them sit outside the tub and slide in.

What warranty does it have?

Graham-Field lists a three (3) year limited warranty for the padded bath seat. Ask us for the full terms.

Shipping & Returns

Shipping & Return Policy

At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.

Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.

Shipping & Order Processing

We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.

Processing Time

Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.

Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.

Transit & Delivery Time

Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.

Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.

Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas

Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.

Freight & Oversized Equipment

Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.

30-Day Return Policy

We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.

Eligible products generally include:

  • Electric and power wheelchairs
  • Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
  • Mobility scooters
  • Walkers and rollators
  • Patient lifts
  • Wheelchair ramps
  • Hospital and homecare beds
  • Eligible medical mattresses
  • Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
  • Overbed tables
  • Bathroom benches and shower chairs
  • Other eligible medical and mobility equipment

Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.

Return Authorization

Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.

You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.

Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.

Condition of Returned Merchandise

To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:

  • In brand-new and unused condition
  • In its complete original manufacturer packaging
  • With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
  • Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
  • In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer

We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.

Restocking Fees

Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.

These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.

If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.

Return Shipping & Shipping Charges

The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.

Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.

Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.

Non-Returnable Products

For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.

We currently do not accept returns on:

  • Parts & accessories
  • Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
  • Patient lift slings
  • Custom or made-to-order products
  • Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page

If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.

Damaged or Incorrect Orders

We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.

If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.

Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.

If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.

Refused Deliveries

Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.

A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.

Return Shipping Deadline

Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.

This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.

Refund Processing

Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.

The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.

If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.

Custom & Made-to-Order Products

Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.

For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.

If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.

Questions Before Ordering?

Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.

Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.

For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
