Joerns N111 Battery Backup Kit – Hospital Bed Battery Backup for the UltraCare XT and EasyCare Beds
The Joerns N111 is a hospital bed battery backup kit for two Joerns beds: the Joerns UltraCare XT and the Joerns EasyCare. It is not a bed. It’s an add-on battery with its own mounting bracket, cable and hardware that lets the bed keep moving when the power goes out.
Joerns puts it plainly in both bed manuals: “In the absence of line voltage, all bed adjustments can be achieved via an externally available backup battery (Joerns P/N N111).” So with this electric bed battery backup installed, a caregiver can still raise or lower the bed and adjust the head and knee sections during an outage, instead of being stuck at whatever height the bed was in when the lights went out.
This Joerns bed battery backup is listed by Joerns for the UltraCare XT and EasyCare only. The WeCare bed uses a different battery part (N211), so it is not for that bed. Not sure which Joerns bed you have? Call us at 585-505-6665 with the model from the bed’s ID label and we’ll confirm before you order.
Why Choose the Joerns N111 Battery Backup?
A low-height hospital bed is a safety tool, and a bed that can’t move during an outage is a problem for the person in it and for whoever is caring for them. Joerns’ own guidance on power failures says beds with optional battery backup let caregivers safely raise and lower the bed, adjust the head and knee sections, keep fall-prevention positioning, and keep care going through outages “that may span multiple shifts.” The N111 is the Joerns part made for exactly that on the UltraCare XT and EasyCare, it charges on the bed, and it comes with the bracket, cable and hardware to mount it. We’re an authorized Joerns dealer and provider, and it ships fast nationwide.
Who Is the Joerns N111 Best For?
The N111 is a good fit for:
- Owners of a Joerns UltraCare XT (model UCXT) or Joerns EasyCare (model ECS) bed
- Homes and facilities in areas with storms or an unreliable grid
- Anyone caring for a person who can’t be repositioned by hand if the bed stops moving
- Facilities that want a bed to keep working through a long outage
Still deciding on the bed itself? Our Hospital Bed Knowledge Base and Hospital Bed Buying Guide walk through the Joerns models, and you can call us at 585-505-6665 any time.
Who May Need a Different Battery?
If you have a Joerns WeCare bed, this isn’t your part: the WeCare manual names a different backup battery (Joerns P/N N211). If you have any other brand of bed, the N111 isn’t listed for it. Tell us the bed’s brand and model and we’ll find the right battery.
Fits the UltraCare XT and EasyCare
Joerns lists the N111 in both the UltraCare XT and EasyCare parts lists and names it in both user manuals. The UltraCare XT manual and the EasyCare manual both say every bed adjustment can be made from this battery when there’s no line voltage. If your bed is one of these two, it’s the part Joerns specifies.
Battery, Bracket, Cable and Hardware in One Kit
The EasyCare parts list describes the N111 as “KIT, BATTERY AND BRACKET, BA16 (BATTERY, BRACKET, CABLE, HARDWARE).” The UltraCare XT parts list says the same: battery, mounting bracket, cable and hardware. There’s nothing else to source to mount it on the bed.
Charges On-Board the Bed
Joerns’ current spec sheets for both beds list the backup battery option as “On-board Charging,” which means the battery stays on the bed and charges there while the bed is plugged in. The bed’s control box has a dedicated port for it: Joerns’ cord and socket diagram labels it “Battery Accessory (Port with battery symbol).”
Joerns does not publish a run time, a number of cycles per charge or a charge time for the N111, so we don’t print one. If that matters for your situation, call us and we’ll ask Joerns for you.
Joerns N111 vs. the Battery Built Into Other Beds
Some beds ship with a backup battery in the box. On the UltraCare XT and EasyCare, Joerns treats the battery as an accessory sold separately (the spec sheets mark “Battery Backup: Built-in*” with the asterisk meaning sold separately). The upside is you add it only when you need it, and you can add it later to a bed you already own. The N111 is that part.
Common Problem → Joerns N111 Solution
Problem: The power goes out with the bed raised to care height, and the person can’t get out safely.
Solution: With the N111 installed, the caregiver lowers the bed from the pendant the same way as always, and can adjust the head and knee sections too.
“Does the bed switch to the battery by itself?” Joerns describes it as an externally available backup battery that plugs into the control box’s battery port. For how the switch-over works on your bed, follow the kit’s supplied instructions or call Joerns Technical Support at 800-826-0270; we’re happy to help you get through.
Sizing & Fit
Check the bed’s ID label (on the frame under the foot section of the sleep deck) for the model: UCXT (UltraCare XT) or ECS (EasyCare). Those are the two beds Joerns lists for the N111. If your label says anything else, call us before ordering.
Care & Cleaning
Joerns’ manuals say the beds’ actuators and control box contain no serviceable parts, and warranty work must be done by or with Joerns. Keep the battery’s cable away from moving parts and the floor, the same way the manuals ask you to route the power cord. For cleaning agents and anything else, follow the bed’s user manual and the instructions supplied with the kit.
What’s Included
Per Joerns’ parts lists: the BA16 battery, mounting bracket, cable and hardware. Installation instructions come with the kit; Joerns Technical Support (800-826-0270) can walk you through it if needed.
Warranty
Joerns’ bed warranty documents for the UltraCare XT and EasyCare say that parts that wear from normal use, “such as DC batteries,” are not covered under the bed’s stated warranty but are covered for 90 days after the date of delivery. Ask us for the current Joerns warranty terms on a battery kit bought on its own.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Joerns N111 a hospital bed?
No. It’s a backup battery kit that mounts on a Joerns UltraCare XT or EasyCare bed so the bed can still move when the power is out. You need one of those two beds to use it.
Which beds does the N111 fit?
Joerns lists it for the UltraCare XT and the EasyCare, in both parts lists and both user manuals. It is not listed for any other bed.
Does it fit the Joerns WeCare?
No. The WeCare manual names a different backup battery, Joerns P/N N211. Call us at 585-505-6665 if that’s the bed you have.
What can the bed do on battery power?
Joerns says all bed adjustments can be made from the backup battery when there is no line voltage: height, head and knee sections. Joerns’ power-failure guidance adds that this keeps fall-prevention positioning available during an outage.
How long does the battery last on a charge?
Joerns doesn’t publish a run time or a cycle count for the N111, so we don’t print one. Call us and we’ll ask Joerns for your bed and use case.
Does the battery charge on the bed?
Yes. Joerns’ UltraCare XT and EasyCare spec sheets list the backup battery option as on-board charging, so it stays mounted on the bed and charges while the bed is plugged in.
What comes in the box?
Joerns’ parts lists describe the kit as battery, mounting bracket, cable and hardware (the BA16 battery and bracket). Installation instructions are supplied with it.
Where does it plug in?
Into the bed’s control box, on the port Joerns labels “Battery Accessory” with a battery symbol. Follow the supplied instructions, or call Joerns Technical Support at 800-826-0270.
Can I add it to a bed I already own?
Yes. Joerns sells the backup battery as a separate accessory for the UltraCare XT and EasyCare, so it can be added to a bed that’s already in use.
Do I need any tools or extra parts?
The kit includes the bracket, cable and hardware. For the exact install steps and any tools, follow the instructions in the kit or call Joerns Technical Support.
What is the warranty on the battery?
Joerns’ bed warranty documents cover DC batteries for 90 days after the date of delivery, as wear parts outside the bed’s main warranty. Ask us for the current Joerns terms on a kit bought on its own.
How do I know which Joerns bed I have?
Look at the ID label on the frame under the foot section of the sleep deck. UCXT is the UltraCare XT and ECS is the EasyCare. If you’re not sure, call us with what the label says.

Shipping & Returns
Shipping & Return Policy
At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.
Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.
Shipping & Order Processing
We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.
Processing Time
Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.
Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.
Transit & Delivery Time
Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.
Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.
Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas
Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.
Freight & Oversized Equipment
Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.
30-Day Return Policy
We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.
Eligible products generally include:
- Electric and power wheelchairs
- Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
- Mobility scooters
- Walkers and rollators
- Patient lifts
- Wheelchair ramps
- Hospital and homecare beds
- Eligible medical mattresses
- Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
- Overbed tables
- Bathroom benches and shower chairs
- Other eligible medical and mobility equipment
Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.
Return Authorization
Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.
You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.
Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.
Condition of Returned Merchandise
To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:
- In brand-new and unused condition
- In its complete original manufacturer packaging
- With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
- Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
- In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer
We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.
Restocking Fees
Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.
These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.
If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.
Return Shipping & Shipping Charges
The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.
Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.
Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.
Non-Returnable Products
For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.
We currently do not accept returns on:
- Parts & accessories
- Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
- Patient lift slings
- Custom or made-to-order products
- Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page
If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.
Damaged or Incorrect Orders
We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.
If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.
Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.
If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.
Refused Deliveries
Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.
A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.
Return Shipping Deadline
Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.
This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.
Refund Processing
Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.
The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.
If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.
Custom & Made-to-Order Products
Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.
For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.
If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.
Questions Before Ordering?
Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.
Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.
For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
