Description

Joerns Hoyer 0Y0458 Battery Charger (US Lead) for the 4-Point Adaptive Positioning Powered Cradle Battery

This is the Joerns spreader bar battery charger for the Hoyer 4-point Adaptive Positioning Powered Cradle: genuine Joerns part 0Y0458, which the cradle manual lists as “Battery charger with US lead.” It charges the cradle’s 0Y0462 battery, the one that runs the cradle’s repositioning actuator. It is not the charger for the lift’s own power pack; that’s a different Joerns part, sold as the Hoyer Charging Station.

Joerns rates the charger for 100–240 V AC input, Class II double insulation, and a charge of approximately 6 hours. The battery drops in by magnets and “will automatically align itself in the charger unit.” An amber light means the charger has power, a flashing green light means it’s charging, and a steady green light means the battery is full. Joerns says plainly: “The charger WILL NOT allow the battery to overcharge.”

If your 4-Point Adaptive Positioning Powered Cradle came with a charger and it’s been lost or damaged, this hoyer lift cradle charger is the replacement. Call us at 585-505-6665 if you’re not sure which charger your lift or cradle uses.

Why Choose the Genuine Joerns 0Y0458 Charger?

Joerns’ manual says the battery and charger are “not to be opened by unauthorized personnel,” and its charging routine depends on this charger’s lights and magnetic seat. Joerns also tells cradle owners to “KEEP the battery fully charged” and to put the battery on charge whenever it isn’t in use, even every night, which only works if the charger is where the cradle is. A second charger for a second care area keeps that routine simple.

Who Is This Charger Best For?

  • Owners of the Hoyer 4-point Adaptive Positioning Powered Cradle whose original charger is missing or damaged
  • Facilities that keep spare 0Y0462 batteries and want a charger on each unit
  • Anyone setting up a cradle bought without its charger

Still choosing a lift? Our Patient Lift Knowledge Base and Patient Transfer Lift Assessment Tool can help.

Who May Need a Different Charger?

  • Anyone charging the lift’s power pack: the Presence and Stature lifts use the Joerns charger and stand sold as the Hoyer Charging Station, not this one.
  • Owners of the manual 4-point cradle: it has no battery to charge.
  • Anyone outside the US: Joerns lists separate charger part numbers with UK, EU and AU leads. This is the US-lead version.

Charger Specifications, as Joerns States Them

Joerns’ electrical specification for the cradle lists the charger’s rated input as 100–240 V AC, 50/60 Hz, max 75 mA, and a rated output of max 28.4 V DC. Electric shock protection is Class II, degree of protection Type B. The charger has no IP rating and Joerns says it is “not to be used in wet environment.” A full charge takes approximately 6 hours.

How to Charge the Cradle Battery

Joerns’ steps, in order:

  • Pull the battery straight out of the cradle’s control box (it’s held by magnets).
  • Connect the power lead into the charger.
  • Place the battery in the charging unit. It’s held in place by a magnetic force and aligns itself.
  • Plug the charger into the wall outlet. The amber light shows there’s power to the charger.
  • A flashing green light means the battery is charging. When the green light stops flashing and stays on, the battery is fully charged.
  • Fit the battery back into the cradle’s control box. One long beep means it’s seated and the cradle is ready.

Charger Cautions From the Joerns Manual

  • Never leave the battery in the charging unit with the charger unplugged from the wall outlet.
  • Never leave the charger switched on with the battery removed.
  • Don’t pull on the power lead to disconnect it; grip the connector plug at the charger end.
  • Don’t touch the battery or charger terminals.
  • Check that the power cable is firmly attached to the charger as part of routine service.

Common Problem → Joerns 0Y0458 Charger Solution

Problem: A home care family moved the Presence lift and its powered cradle to a new room, and the little charger didn’t make the trip. The cradle now beeps low-battery and nobody can charge it.

Solution: A replacement 0Y0458 charger. Plug it in, drop the battery on the magnetic seat, and the green light flashes until it’s full, about 6 hours per Joerns.

“Will it hurt the battery if we forget it on there?” Joerns says the charger will not allow the battery to overcharge.

Care & Cleaning

Keep the charger dry: Joerns gives it no water rating and says not to use it in a wet environment. Wipe it with a dry or barely damp cloth, keep the terminals clean, and check the lead and plug for damage during the cradle’s routine service checks.

Warranty

Joerns’ HoyerPro lift warranty covers electrical components for two years from delivery and replacement parts until the lift’s original warranty expires. Joerns’ PDFs don’t state a separate term for a charger bought on its own, so ask us for the current Joerns warranty terms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this charger charge the Hoyer lift?

No. It charges the 0Y0462 battery that powers the 4-point Adaptive Positioning Powered Cradle. The lift’s own power pack uses a different Joerns charger and stand.

Which battery does the 0Y0458 charge?

The Joerns 0Y0462 cradle battery, a 24 V DC sealed NiMH pack. Joerns lists both parts in the Hoyer 4-Point Adaptive Power Cradle manual.

Is a battery included?

No. Joerns lists the battery (0Y0462) as a separate part. The cradle itself ships from Joerns with a charger and two batteries; this listing is a replacement or spare charger.

What voltage does it run on?

Joerns rates the input at 100–240 V AC, 50/60 Hz. This is the version with the US lead; Joerns lists other part numbers for UK, EU and AU leads.

How long does a charge take?

Approximately 6 hours, per Joerns. The green light flashes while charging and stays on when the battery is full.

What do the lights mean?

Amber means the charger has power. Flashing green means the battery is charging. Steady green means it’s fully charged and can go back in the cradle.

Can I leave the battery on the charger?

Yes. Joerns says the charger will not allow the battery to overcharge and recommends keeping the battery on charge whenever it’s not in use. Don’t leave the battery on the charger with the charger unplugged, and don’t leave the charger on with no battery in it.

Can I use it in a bathroom?

No. Joerns gives the charger no IP rating and says it is not to be used in a wet environment.

How does the battery sit in the charger?

By magnets. Joerns says the battery is held in place by a magnetic force and automatically aligns itself in the charger unit.

What’s the warranty?

Joerns’ HoyerPro lift warranty covers electrical components for two years from delivery and replacement parts until the lift’s original warranty expires. Ask us for the current Joerns terms on a charger bought separately.

Shipping & Returns

Shipping & Return Policy

At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.

Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.

Shipping & Order Processing

We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.

Processing Time

Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.

Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.

Transit & Delivery Time

Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.

Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.

Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas

Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.

Freight & Oversized Equipment

Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.

30-Day Return Policy

We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.

Eligible products generally include:

  • Electric and power wheelchairs
  • Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
  • Mobility scooters
  • Walkers and rollators
  • Patient lifts
  • Wheelchair ramps
  • Hospital and homecare beds
  • Eligible medical mattresses
  • Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
  • Overbed tables
  • Bathroom benches and shower chairs
  • Other eligible medical and mobility equipment

Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.

Return Authorization

Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.

You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.

Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.

Condition of Returned Merchandise

To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:

  • In brand-new and unused condition
  • In its complete original manufacturer packaging
  • With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
  • Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
  • In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer

We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.

Restocking Fees

Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.

These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.

If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.

Return Shipping & Shipping Charges

The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.

Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.

Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.

Non-Returnable Products

For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.

We currently do not accept returns on:

  • Parts & accessories
  • Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
  • Patient lift slings
  • Custom or made-to-order products
  • Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page

If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.

Damaged or Incorrect Orders

We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.

If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.

Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.

If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.

Refused Deliveries

Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.

A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.

Return Shipping Deadline

Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.

This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.

Refund Processing

Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.

The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.

If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.

Custom & Made-to-Order Products

Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.

For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.

If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.

Questions Before Ordering?

Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.

Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.

For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
