Description

Joerns Hoyer Powered 4-Point Adaptive Positioning Cradle With Integrated Scale (HOY-4PTWSC-APC) for the Presence Lift

This is the Joerns powered spreader bar with scale for the Hoyer Presence lift: the 4-point Adaptive Positioning Powered Cradle with the integrated digital scale, Joerns part HOY-4PTWSC-APC. Joerns’ price list describes it as the “Hoyer 4-Point Adaptive Positioning Powered Spreader Bar with Scale: Used with the Presence Lift.” It is a cradle, not a lift: it replaces the spreader bar on a Presence you already own.

With this hoyer lift powered cradle, the caregiver reclines or sits the person up with a pendant built into the cradle’s handle instead of pulling on the sling. Joerns rates it for a 500 lb safe working load, says it rotates 360 degrees, and notes it “can be field-retrofitted with no special tools in less than five minutes.” The scale reads from either side of the lift, holds the last reading with a Recall button, and switches between pounds and kilograms.

We already sell the same powered cradle without the scale. This listing is the with-scale version. Not sure which spreader bar your Presence has today, or if you need the manual cradle instead? Call us at 585-505-6665 and we’ll sort it out before you order.

Why Choose the Hoyer Powered Cradle With Scale?

Repositioning someone in a sling by hand is where a lot of caregiver strain happens. Joerns says the powered cradle “allows caregiver to remain close to the resident during the repositioning process,” that “manual repositioning of the patient is greatly reduced,” and that “the potential for repositioning injuries to the caregiver is also reduced.” Joerns also points out that its compact size and quiet operation “is not intimidating to the patient.” Adding the scale means weights are taken during a transfer the team was already doing, with no second move onto a chair scale.

Who Is This Cradle Best For?

  • Facilities and homes with a Hoyer Presence lift that still has the standard 6-point spreader bar
  • Care teams that reposition residents often and want the caregiver’s hands off the sling during the recline
  • Anyone who needs regular weights on a person who is transferred by lift
  • Presence owners switching from loop slings to Hoyer Comfort clip-style slings

Still choosing a lift? Our Patient Lift Knowledge Base and Patient Transfer Lift Assessment Tool can help.

Who May Need a Different Cradle?

  • Owners of any lift other than the Presence or Stature: Joerns’ manual says the 4-point Adaptive Power Cradle “is only compatible with the Hoyer Presence and Stature lifts.” The sheet lists this with-scale SKU for the Presence; Stature owners should call us.
  • Anyone who doesn’t need the scale: the Hoyer 4-Point Adaptive Positioning Powered Cradle without the scale is the same cradle, scale-free.
  • Loop-sling users who want to keep loop slings: this cradle takes Hoyer Comfort slings with the Securi3 safety clip system, not loop slings.
  • People over 500 lb: Joerns rates the cradle and the Presence for a 500 lb safe working load.

Powered Positioning From the Handle

Joerns describes a “compact, quiet actuator” with “a self-contained control and power supply” and a “hand pendant integrated into the cradle’s handle.” The 4-point cradle adjusts the person’s position by rotating the cradle up or down, so the caregiver sits the person up or reclines them from the handle while staying close. Joerns warns not to leave the person unattended in the most upright position.

Integrated Scale, Two-Sided Display

Joerns describes the integrated scale this way: “Two sided display and controls allows the caregiver to operate and read the scale from either side of the lift,” “the Recall function automatically stores the last measurement taken,” “unit of measure can be changed from pounds to kilograms with the push of a button,” and it’s “powered by a standard 9V battery that is easily replaced.” For the Presence, Joerns calls it a “low profile scale” and, in the Presence spec sheet, rates the digital scale NAWI Class III. Joerns doesn’t publish the scale’s resolution, so we don’t list it.

Separate Battery and Charger

The cradle’s actuator runs on its own battery, not the lift’s. Joerns’ manual lists the components that come with the 4-point Adaptive Power Cradle: the cradle, a battery charger, two rechargeable NiMH batteries (24 V DC, 1400 mAh), two black plastic caps for the Presence or Stature boom, and the manual. The battery pulls straight out of the control box (it’s held by magnets) and drops into the charger; Joerns says a charge takes approximately 6 hours and that the charger will not overcharge the battery. Joerns says to keep a battery on charge whenever the cradle isn’t in use.

Five-Minute Retrofit, No Special Tools

Joerns says the cradle “can be field-retrofitted with no special tools in less than five minutes.” Its manual describes the swap: remove the quick-release pin that holds the current spreader bar or cradle (a small flat-blade screwdriver “is the only tool required”), fit the powered cradle, and make sure the pin is fully engaged before use.

Slings for the 4-Point Cradle

Joerns says this accessory “utilises Hoyer Comfort slings featuring the Securi3 safety clip system,” and that you must use Hoyer slings with Hoyer lifts. The sling clips attach to the cradle’s lugs: attach the clip, pull the plastic clip down to secure, and feed the green safe tab through the slot. Always check the sling is the right size and capacity for the person.

Common Problem → Joerns Powered Cradle With Scale Solution

Problem: Two aides on a dementia unit reposition the same resident several times a shift with the Presence lift, pulling on the sling to sit her up, and the dietitian wants weekly weights without the trip to the wheelchair scale.

Solution: Swap the Presence’s spreader bar for the powered cradle with scale. The aide sits her up from the pendant in the handle, Joerns says with greatly reduced manual repositioning, and reads the weight on the scale during the same transfer.

“Does it fit our lift?” Joerns’ manual says the cradle fits the Hoyer Presence and Stature only, and the sheet lists this scale version for the Presence.

Care & Cleaning

Joerns says the cradle “can be cleaned with warm water or a disinfectant cleaning fluid,” warns that harsh chemicals may dull or remove the finish, and says never to spray or submerge the lift in any liquid. The charger has no water rating and is not to be used in a wet environment. Joerns’ service schedule checks the cradle’s rotation, the central pivot pin, the attachment to the boom and the quick-release pin, and the actuator’s operation.

Warranty

Joerns’ HoyerPro lift warranty covers mechanical and electrical components for two years from delivery, with DC batteries covered for 90 days, and replacement parts covered until the lift’s original warranty expires. Joerns’ PDFs don’t state a separate term for a cradle bought on its own, so ask us for the current Joerns warranty terms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a patient lift?

No. It’s a powered positioning cradle with a built-in scale that replaces the spreader bar on a Joerns Hoyer Presence lift. You need the lift to use it.

Which lifts does the Hoyer 4-point adaptive positioning powered cradle fit?

Joerns’ manual says the cradle is only compatible with the Hoyer Presence and Stature lifts, and Joerns’ price list describes this with-scale version as used with the Presence lift. For a Stature, call us at 585-505-6665 so we quote the right configuration.

What’s the difference between this and the powered cradle without a scale?

The scale. Both are the same 4-point Adaptive Positioning Powered Cradle; this one has the integrated digital scale with a two-sided display. If you don’t need weights, the plain powered cradle is the cheaper option.

Does the scale read in pounds and kilograms?

Yes. Joerns says the unit of measure changes from pounds to kilograms with the push of a button, and a Recall function stores the last measurement.

What powers the scale?

A standard 9V battery, which Joerns says is easily replaced. The cradle’s actuator uses its own separate 24 V rechargeable NiMH battery and charger.

What’s included?

Joerns’ manual lists the cradle, a battery charger, two rechargeable NiMH batteries, two black plastic caps for the boom and the user/service manual. This SKU adds the integrated scale.

How long does the cradle battery take to charge?

Joerns says approximately 6 hours. The battery pulls straight out of the control box, is held in the charger by magnets, and the green light stops flashing when it’s full. Joerns says the charger will not overcharge the battery.

Can I install it myself?

Joerns says the cradle can be field-retrofitted with no special tools in less than five minutes: remove the quick-release pin holding the current spreader bar (a small flat-blade screwdriver is the only tool Joerns names), fit the cradle, and check the pin is fully engaged.

Which slings work with it?

Hoyer Comfort slings with the Securi3 safety clip system. Joerns says you must use Hoyer slings with Hoyer lifts, and this cradle is a clip-style system, not a loop-style one.

What is the weight capacity?

Joerns rates the cradle for a 500 lb safe working load. The Presence lift is also rated 500 lb, so that’s the limit either way.

Is the scale NAWI Class III?

Joerns’ Presence spec sheet describes the Presence’s digital scale option as NAWI Class III rated. Joerns doesn’t publish the display resolution, so ask us if you need that figure.

What’s the warranty?

Joerns’ HoyerPro lift warranty runs two years on mechanical and electrical components, 90 days on DC batteries, and covers replacement parts until the lift’s original warranty expires. Ask us for the current Joerns terms for a cradle bought on its own.

Shipping & Returns

Shipping & Return Policy

At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.

Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.

Shipping & Order Processing

We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.

Processing Time

Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.

Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.

Transit & Delivery Time

Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.

Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.

Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas

Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.

Freight & Oversized Equipment

Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.

30-Day Return Policy

We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.

Eligible products generally include:

  • Electric and power wheelchairs
  • Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
  • Mobility scooters
  • Walkers and rollators
  • Patient lifts
  • Wheelchair ramps
  • Hospital and homecare beds
  • Eligible medical mattresses
  • Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
  • Overbed tables
  • Bathroom benches and shower chairs
  • Other eligible medical and mobility equipment

Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.

Return Authorization

Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.

You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.

Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.

Condition of Returned Merchandise

To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:

  • In brand-new and unused condition
  • In its complete original manufacturer packaging
  • With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
  • Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
  • In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer

We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.

Restocking Fees

Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.

These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.

If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.

Return Shipping & Shipping Charges

The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.

Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.

Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.

Non-Returnable Products

For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.

We currently do not accept returns on:

  • Parts & accessories
  • Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
  • Patient lift slings
  • Custom or made-to-order products
  • Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page

If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.

Damaged or Incorrect Orders

We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.

If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.

Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.

If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.

Refused Deliveries

Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.

A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.

Return Shipping Deadline

Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.

This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.

Refund Processing

Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.

The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.

If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.

Custom & Made-to-Order Products

Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.

For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.

If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.

Questions Before Ordering?

Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.

Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.

For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
