Description
Geriatric Chair with Tray for Comfort, Reclining & Resident Mobility
The Invacare Traditional Three-Position Recliner IH6074A is a professional geriatric chair designed to provide comfortable seating, reclining support, easier resident mobility, and caregiver-friendly functionality in day rooms, resident rooms, long-term care, rehabilitation, and other appropriate care environments.
Unlike a conventional household recliner, this geriatric chair for elderly users is designed around the practical needs of residents and caregivers. It provides three useful seating positions—full upright, leg-ottoman elevated, and full recline—while four rolling casters and a rear push bar make the chair easier to reposition within the care environment.
The chair also includes a convenient overlap tray, making it a strong option for buyers specifically searching for a geriatric chair with tray. The tray can move freely on its mounting tabs, providing a practical surface for meals, reading, activities, and lightweight personal items.
Additional patient-focused features include an articulating headrest, fold-under footrests that make standing easier, removable blow-molded side panels for simplified cleaning, and fluid-resistant flame-retardant upholstery that meets California Technical Bulletin 117 requirements.
For facilities comparing a geriatric chair, recliner geriatric chair, or three-position medical recliner for elderly residents, the Invacare IH6074A provides a balanced combination of comfort, mobility, caregiver access, easy cleaning, and durable long-term care functionality.
Why the Invacare IH6074A Geriatric Chair Stands Out
The Invacare Traditional Three-Position Recliner is designed specifically for resident-room and day-room environments where patients may spend extended periods seated and where staff need a chair that can be moved, cleaned, reclined, and accessed efficiently.
- ✔️ Three resident seating positions
- ✔️ Full recline capability
- ✔️ Fold-under footrests aid standing
- ✔️ Included movable overlap tray
- ✔️ Four rolling transport casters
- ✔️ Rear steering casters lock
- ✔️ Adjustable articulating headrest
- ✔️ Removable easy-clean side panels
This combination makes the IH6074A especially useful when an ordinary recliner does not provide the mobility, cleanability, positioning flexibility, or caregiver access needed in a professional care environment.
Three Position Recliner for Resident Comfort
The Invacare IH6074A provides three distinct positioning options designed to give residents flexibility throughout the day.
- ✔️ Full Upright – seated activities
- ✔️ Leg-Ottoman Elevated – leg support
- ✔️ Full Recline – relaxed positioning
This allows the chair to adapt to different activities and comfort needs rather than limiting the resident to one fixed seating position.
The ability to transition from upright sitting to leg elevation and full recline is one of the primary reasons this style of recliner geriatric chair is commonly suited to day rooms, resident rooms, rehabilitation environments, and long-term care settings.
Fold-Under Footrests Help Residents Stand Easier
The footrests are designed to fold completely underneath the chair, helping clear the area in front of the resident when preparing to rise.
This can be especially useful for elderly or mobility-limited residents who need a clear floor area beneath their feet before standing.
The fold-under design can help by providing:
- ✔️ Clearer space in front
- ✔️ Better foot placement
- ✔️ Easier standing preparation
- ✔️ Improved caregiver access
- ✔️ Less obstruction during transfers
For buyers specifically looking for a geriatric chair for elderly residents, this is an important distinction from many standard recliners where the legrest may remain directly in front of the user.
Geriatric Chair with Included Overlap Tray
The Invacare IH6074A includes a 25.5″ x 15″ overlap tray, providing residents with an accessible surface while seated.
The tray mounting tabs allow the tray to move freely, creating flexibility for different daily activities.
The tray may be useful for:
- ✔️ Meals and snacks
- ✔️ Reading materials
- ✔️ Writing activities
- ✔️ Recreational activities
- ✔️ Lightweight personal items
For facilities searching specifically for a geriatric chair with tray, this included accessory can eliminate the need to position a separate overbed or bedside table for every seated activity.
Articulating Headrest Supports Social Interaction
The built-in articulating headrest is designed to help keep the resident within a comfortable social field of vision.
This becomes particularly useful when the chair is reclined, because head and neck positioning may otherwise make it more difficult for the resident to comfortably look toward visitors, caregivers, a television, or activities taking place in the room.
The adjustable headrest adds another level of positioning flexibility beyond simply changing the recline angle.
Four Rolling Casters for Easier Chair Movement
A convenient push bar on the back of the chair works together with four rolling casters to make the recliner easier for caregivers to move within appropriate care environments.
The chair includes:
- ✔️ Four rolling casters
- ✔️ Two rear steering casters
- ✔️ Rear caster locking capability
- ✔️ Convenient rear push bar
The two rear steering casters can be locked to help secure the chair in place after it has been positioned.
This mobility is a major difference between a purpose-built geriatric recliner and a conventional residential recliner that is intended to remain stationary.
Removable Side Panels for Easier Cleaning
The chair’s blow-molded side panels can be removed quickly using press pins, making routine cleaning and access easier.
Easy-clean design is particularly important in professional care settings where seating may be used daily and must be maintained according to facility cleaning procedures.
Removable side panels can help simplify:
- ✔️ Routine chair cleaning
- ✔️ Access around seating components
- ✔️ Facility maintenance
- ✔️ Resident-room sanitation
Fluid-Resistant, Flame-Retardant Upholstery
The Invacare IH6074A uses flame-retardant upholstery that is also resistant to fluids. The upholstery meets California Technical Bulletin 117.
These characteristics are particularly relevant in institutional environments where furniture must withstand repeated use and routine cleaning while meeting specified upholstery requirements.
The chair carries a one-year upholstery warranty.
Designed for Day Rooms & Resident Rooms
The Invacare Traditional Three-Position Recliner was specifically described for day room and resident room environments, making it particularly relevant for long-term and supportive care settings.
Potential care environments include:
- ✔️ Skilled nursing facilities
- ✔️ Long-term care facilities
- ✔️ Assisted living communities
- ✔️ Rehabilitation facilities
- ✔️ Resident rooms
- ✔️ Facility day rooms
- ✔️ Appropriate homecare settings
Its combination of three-position reclining, transport casters, overlap tray, articulating headrest, cleanable side panels, and fold-under footrests addresses many of the everyday needs associated with resident seating.
250 lb Weight Capacity & Resident Seating Dimensions
The Invacare IH6074A has a manufacturer-listed 250 lb weight capacity.
The chair’s primary seating dimensions include:
- ✔️ Seat Width: 19″
- ✔️ Seat Depth: 20″
- ✔️ Seat-to-Floor Height: 20.5″
- ✔️ Seat-to-Back Height: 33″
- ✔️ Overall Width: 24″
- ✔️ Overall Height: 45″
These measurements should be compared with the intended resident’s size and positioning requirements before purchasing. A 250 lb weight capacity does not necessarily mean that the chair dimensions will appropriately fit every person below that weight.
Who Is This Geriatric Chair Best For?
The Invacare Traditional Three-Position Recliner is designed for residents who benefit from comfortable supported seating while caregivers need mobility, reclining flexibility, and easier access.
It may be particularly useful for:
- ✔️ Elderly long-term care residents
- ✔️ Assisted living residents
- ✔️ Rehabilitation patients
- ✔️ Residents spending extended time seated
- ✔️ Users needing leg elevation
- ✔️ Residents benefiting from recline
- ✔️ Facilities needing mobile seating
- ✔️ Users wanting integrated activity tray
For a resident who requires more than a 250 lb capacity, additional seat width, specialized pressure management, or other clinical positioning features, another chair configuration may be more appropriate.
Who May Need a Different Geriatric Recliner?
A different model may be more appropriate when:
- ✔️ More than 250 lbs capacity needed
- ✔️ Wider seating surface is required
- ✔️ Trendelenburg positioning is needed
- ✔️ Specialized treatment access is required
- ✔️ Different pressure-management seating needed
- ✔️ Bariatric construction is required
Chair selection should consider the resident’s size, mobility level, positioning needs, intended setting, and expected duration of sitting rather than relying on one specification alone.

Shipping & Returns
Shipping & Return Policy
At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.
Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.
Shipping & Order Processing
We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.
Processing Time
Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.
Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.
Transit & Delivery Time
Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.
Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.
Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas
Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.
Freight & Oversized Equipment
Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.
30-Day Return Policy
We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.
Eligible products generally include:
- Electric and power wheelchairs
- Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
- Mobility scooters
- Walkers and rollators
- Patient lifts
- Wheelchair ramps
- Hospital and homecare beds
- Eligible medical mattresses
- Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
- Overbed tables
- Bathroom benches and shower chairs
- Other eligible medical and mobility equipment
Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.
Return Authorization
Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.
You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.
Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.
Condition of Returned Merchandise
To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:
- In brand-new and unused condition
- In its complete original manufacturer packaging
- With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
- Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
- In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer
We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.
Restocking Fees
Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.
These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.
If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.
Return Shipping & Shipping Charges
The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.
Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.
Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.
Non-Returnable Products
For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.
We currently do not accept returns on:
- Parts & accessories
- Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
- Patient lift slings
- Custom or made-to-order products
- Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page
If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.
Damaged or Incorrect Orders
We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.
If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.
Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.
If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.
Refused Deliveries
Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.
A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.
Return Shipping Deadline
Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.
This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.
Refund Processing
Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.
The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.
If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.
Custom & Made-to-Order Products
Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.
For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.
If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.
Questions Before Ordering?
Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.
Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.
For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
