the Invacare microAIR® MA900 is designed to provide advanced turning assistance, pressure relief, moisture control, skin protection support, and safer positioning for patients who need more than standard alternating pressure therapy.
Why the Invacare microAIR® MA900 Stands Out
The MA900 is the most advanced model in this Invacare microAIR® comparison group because it is built around lateral rotation therapy. While the MA500, MA600, and MA800 focus mainly on alternating pressure and low air loss, the MA900 adds continuous turning support to help reposition the patient from side to side.
Key advantages include:
- ✔️ Continuous lateral rotation therapy
- ✔️ 20° and 40° rotation options
- ✔️ True Low Air Loss Therapy
- ✔️ Inflatable built-in side bolsters
- ✔️ Auto Firm Mode for transfers
- ✔️ Customizable cycle times
- ✔️ Foam base bottoming-out protection
- ✔️ External exhaust for cooler operation
- ✔️ 36”, 42”, and 48” widths
- ✔️ Up to 1000 lb. capacity
Choosing Between MA500, MA600, MA800, and MA900?
Choose the MA500 for low-to-medium risk basic alternating pressure and low air loss support. Choose the MA600 for stronger medium-to-high risk support with 3-in-1 alternating pressure, HeelSense™, Max Inflate, and 500 lb. capacity. Choose the MA800 for True Low Air Loss, pulsation, moisture management, and wider bariatric options. Choose the MA900 when the patient needs lateral rotation therapy, turning assistance, side bolsters, and advanced positioning support.
Continuous 20° and 40° Lateral Rotation Therapy
The MA900 features continuous 20° and 40° lateral rotation therapy. This turning support helps rotate the patient from side to side, which can be especially helpful when a patient has limited ability to reposition independently.
Lateral rotation therapy can help support:
- ✔️ Pressure relief routines
- ✔️ Regular repositioning support
- ✔️ Pulmonary care positioning
- ✔️ Reduced constant pressure exposure
- ✔️ Comfort during extended bed rest
- ✔️ Caregiver-assisted turning routines
For patients who need turning support, the MA900 is more appropriate than a standard alternating pressure mattress because it is specifically designed as a turning air mattress for hospital bed care.
True Low Air Loss Therapy for Moisture Management
The MA900 includes True Low Air Loss Therapy, designed to provide extra comfort through moisture and temperature control.
This helps support:
- ✔️ Moisture control
- ✔️ Temperature management
- ✔️ Skin comfort
- ✔️ Maceration concern support
- ✔️ Long-term bed rest comfort
- ✔️ Pressure injury care routines
For patients dealing with perspiration, heat, moisture, or fragile skin concerns, this low air loss rotation mattress provides both airflow support and lateral turning therapy in one system.
Inflatable Built-In Side Bolsters for Added Safety
The MA900 includes inflatable built-in side bolsters with manual connectors. These bolsters help provide added positioning safety during rotation therapy and can be removed as needed to aid with ingress and egress.
Side bolsters help:
- ✔️ Improve patient positioning support
- ✔️ Add safety during rotation therapy
- ✔️ Support confidence during turning
- ✔️ Help define mattress edges
- ✔️ Assist with patient containment
- ✔️ Allow easier entry and exit when disconnected
This is one of the most important safety-focused differences between the MA900 and the other microAIR® models.
Auto Firm Mode for Transfers & Nursing Procedures
The MA900 includes Auto Firm Mode, which provides quick maximum inflation within seconds.
This is helpful for:
- ✔️ Patient transfers
- ✔️ Repositioning support
- ✔️ Nursing procedures
- ✔️ Caregiver access
- ✔️ Temporary firming of the mattress surface
- ✔️ Easier ingress and egress
When caregivers need a stable surface for hands-on care, Auto Firm Mode helps make the mattress easier to manage.
Customizable Cycle Times for Individual Needs
The MA900 includes customizable cycle times to help meet varying patient needs.
This allows caregivers to adjust therapy timing based on:
- ✔️ Patient comfort
- ✔️ Rotation tolerance
- ✔️ Pressure relief needs
- ✔️ Care routines
- ✔️ Provider instructions
- ✔️ Long-term care goals
Customizable cycles help make the MA900 more adaptable than fixed-cycle systems.
Foam Base Helps Prevent Bottoming Out
The MA900 includes a foam base designed to help prevent bottoming out in the event of a power failure.
This feature helps:
- ✔️ Provide added safety support
- ✔️ Reduce bottoming-out risk
- ✔️ Maintain backup support
- ✔️ Improve caregiver confidence
- ✔️ Support patient protection during power loss
For higher-risk patients, bottoming-out protection is an important safety feature.
Soft Nylon Urethane-Backed Cells for Easy Cleaning
The MA900 uses soft nylon urethane-backed cells designed to provide easy cleaning and help minimize the proliferation of bacterial growth.
This supports:
- ✔️ Cleaner care routines
- ✔️ Easier maintenance
- ✔️ Long-term facility use
- ✔️ Patient care hygiene
- ✔️ Practical homecare maintenance
Cooler Surface & Quieter Pump Operation
The external exhaust helps keep the mattress surface cooler and the pump quieter.
This is helpful for:
- ✔️ Patient comfort
- ✔️ Nighttime use
- ✔️ Facility noise reduction
- ✔️ Long-term care settings
- ✔️ Care rooms where quiet operation matters
Low Shear, Friction & Moisture Protection Cover
The MA900 includes a highly vapor permeable, oversized pliable quilted nylon top cover designed to provide:
- ✔️ Low shear support
- ✔️ Friction reduction
- ✔️ Moisture protection
- ✔️ Skin comfort
- ✔️ Long-term bed rest support
The nylon base cover is also designed to help reduce shear and friction during bed articulation.
Available in 36”, 42”, and 48” Widths
The MA900 is available in:
- ✔️ 36” width
- ✔️ 42” width
- ✔️ 48” width
- ✔️ 80” length
- ✔️ 10” height
Weight capacity:
- ✔️ 36” model: 600 lbs.
- ✔️ 42” and 48” models: 1000 lbs.
This makes the MA900 a strong lateral rotation option for both standard hospital bed users and larger bariatric patients who need wider support.
Need Mattress Only or Pump Only?
This product is commonly purchased as a complete lateral rotation low air loss mattress system, but mattress-only and pump-only options may also be available. To order only the mattress, only the pump, or to confirm the correct configuration for your bed, please call 585-505-6665 for assistance.
MA900 vs MA800: What Is the Difference?
The MA900 and MA800 are both advanced microAIR® systems, but they serve different needs.
- ✔️ MA800: True Low Air Loss + pulsation
- ✔️ MA900: True Low Air Loss + lateral rotation
- ✔️ MA800: best for moisture and pulsation therapy
- ✔️ MA900: best for turning assistance
- ✔️ MA800: no lateral rotation
- ✔️ MA900: 20° and 40° rotation therapy
- ✔️ MA900: built-in inflatable side bolsters
- ✔️ Both offer wider 42” and 48” options
- ✔️ Both offer up to 1000 lb. capacity
If the patient needs advanced moisture control and pulsation but not turning assistance, consider the Invacare microAIR® MA800. If the patient needs lateral rotation therapy, the MA900 is the better fit.
