Description
Lumex FR565DG – Preferred Care Drop Arm Geri Chair With 95° to 145° Infinite Recline
The Lumex Preferred Care FR565DG is a drop arm geri chair built for the moment most clinical recliners make hard: the transfer. Lumex takes its Preferred Care Recliner and adds self-storing, height-adjustable drop arms, so a caregiver can lower the arm and slide a resident sideways to a bed, wheelchair or commode instead of lifting them over the armrest.
Everything else is the Preferred Care chair facilities already know. The patented infinite recliner back sets anywhere from 95° to 145° and the caregiver can lock it in any position. A self-adjusting suspension cradles the resident from head to heel, and Lumex rates this drop arm recliner for 250 lb.
It comes in three vinyl colors, Blue Ridge, Jade and Rosewood. Pick the color in the dropdown above; every color is the same price.
Why Choose the Lumex FR565DG?
A lateral transfer is safer and easier for both people when the armrest is out of the way. Graham-Field describes the FR565DG drop arms as simple for the caregiver to activate, and they store themselves when lowered. Add a directional wheel lock on the right rear caster that stops the chair from “crabbing” in a hallway, an easy-clean welded steel frame and quick-release upholstery, and you get a Lumex drop arm recliner that suits day-to-day facility work.
Who Is the FR565DG Best For?
The FR565DG is a good fit for:
- Assisted living, long-term care and rehab facilities that transfer residents side to side
- Residents up to 250 lb who spend long stretches sitting and need to change position
- Caregivers who want to avoid lifting a resident over a fixed armrest
- Home care settings with a trained caregiver and room for a full-size clinical recliner
Who May Need a Different Recliner?
- Residents over 250 lb: look at a wider, higher-capacity chair such as the Lumex Extra-Wide Drop-Arm Clinical Care Recliner FR587WD or the Lumex Extra Wide Preferred Care Recliner.
- Residents who need tilt rather than recline: Lumex also makes a Preferred Care Tilt-in-Space version (FR565TG) that keeps the back-to-seat angle fixed while it tilts. Ask us about it.
- No lateral transfers: if transfers are always done standing, the standard Lumex 565 Preferred Care Recliner without drop arms may be all you need.
Self-Storing, Height-Adjustable Drop Arms
The arms lower and tuck away on their own, so nothing sits loose beside the chair during a transfer. Graham-Field says they are simple for the caregiver to activate and allow a safer, easier lateral transfer for the resident and the caregiver. The armrests are padded for a soft surface once they are back up.
Infinite Recline From 95° to 145°
Lumex’s patented infinite recliner back is not limited to a few fixed stops. It moves anywhere between 95° and 145°, which Graham-Field notes helps with comfort and pressure relief, and the caregiver can lock the back in any position.
Suspension That Self-Adjusts
A suspension system adjusts itself to each person and cradles the resident from head to heel. Graham-Field says this virtually eliminates the risk of “bottoming out”, the feeling of sinking through the seat onto the frame.
Directional Wheel Lock for Hallways
The right rear caster has a directional lock. Engage it and the chair tracks straight instead of crabbing sideways, so moving a resident down a long hallway takes less effort.
Choosing Your Options
There’s one choice to make: the upholstery color.
- FR565DG427: Blue Ridge
- FR565DG857: Jade
- FR565DG863: Rosewood
All three are the same drop-arm chair at the same price. Lumex also lists a variety of accessories for the Preferred Care series. Call us at 585-505-6665 if you need one with the chair.
Common Problem → FR565DG Solution
Problem: A resident needs two staff members to get from bed to chair because she can’t stand long enough to pivot, and lifting her over the armrest is hard on everyone.
Solution: Park the FR565DG beside the bed, lower the arm and slide her across on a transfer board. Raise the arm, recline the back to where she is comfortable and lock it there.
“Will the chair roll away during the transfer?” Set the caster locks before you start, and check the chair is steady before the resident moves.
Care & Cleaning
The welded steel frame has an epoxy coating that is easy to clean and maintain. Quick-release upholstery comes off for cleaning, removal or replacement, and the vinyl back is sulfide stain, mildew and oil resistant. Use cleaners your facility approves for vinyl.
Shipping & What’s Included
One Lumex Preferred Care Drop-Arm Recliner in the color you choose. Graham-Field lists the carton at about 35.5″ x 30.5″ x 30.5″ and about 76 lb. We ship nationwide and it’s delivered to your door; call 585-505-6665 with any delivery question.
Warranty
Lumex covers the FR565DG with its Wrap-Around Warranty: limited lifetime on the welded frame, limited one year on the upholstery and limited three years on all other components. We’ll help you with any warranty claim.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Lumex FR565DG?
It’s the Lumex Preferred Care Recliner with drop arms. The arms lower and store themselves so a caregiver can do a lateral transfer, and the back reclines anywhere from 95° to 145°.
What is a drop arm geri chair used for?
It’s used for side-to-side transfers. Lowering the arm lets a resident slide across to a bed, wheelchair or commode without being lifted over a fixed armrest.
How much weight does it hold?
Lumex rates the FR565DG for 250 lb.
How far does it recline?
The back reclines anywhere from 95° to 145°, and the caregiver can lock it in any position.
Do both arms drop?
Graham-Field describes the FR565DG with drop arms (plural), self-storing and height adjustable. Call us at 585-505-6665 if you want us to confirm the arm setup for your transfers.
Will the chair roll sideways in a hallway?
The right rear caster has a directional lock that reduces crabbing, so the chair tracks straighter and takes less effort to push.
What colors are available?
Blue Ridge, Jade and Rosewood. Choose one in the dropdown; every color is the same price.
How do you clean it?
The epoxy-coated steel frame wipes clean, and the quick-release upholstery comes off for cleaning or replacement. The vinyl back resists sulfide stains, mildew and oil.
How is it different from the standard Lumex 565?
It’s the same Preferred Care Recliner plus the drop arm mechanism. If you never transfer side to side, the standard 565 may be enough.
What is the warranty?
Lumex lists a limited lifetime warranty on the welded frame, one year on the upholstery and three years on all other components.

Shipping & Returns
Shipping & Return Policy
At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.
Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.
Shipping & Order Processing
We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.
Processing Time
Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.
Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.
Transit & Delivery Time
Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.
Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.
Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas
Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.
Freight & Oversized Equipment
Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.
30-Day Return Policy
We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.
Eligible products generally include:
- Electric and power wheelchairs
- Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
- Mobility scooters
- Walkers and rollators
- Patient lifts
- Wheelchair ramps
- Hospital and homecare beds
- Eligible medical mattresses
- Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
- Overbed tables
- Bathroom benches and shower chairs
- Other eligible medical and mobility equipment
Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.
Return Authorization
Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.
You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.
Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.
Condition of Returned Merchandise
To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:
- In brand-new and unused condition
- In its complete original manufacturer packaging
- With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
- Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
- In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer
We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.
Restocking Fees
Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.
These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.
If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.
Return Shipping & Shipping Charges
The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.
Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.
Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.
Non-Returnable Products
For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.
We currently do not accept returns on:
- Parts & accessories
- Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
- Patient lift slings
- Custom or made-to-order products
- Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page
If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.
Damaged or Incorrect Orders
We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.
If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.
Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.
If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.
Refused Deliveries
Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.
A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.
Return Shipping Deadline
Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.
This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.
Refund Processing
Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.
The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.
If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.
Custom & Made-to-Order Products
Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.
For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.
If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.
Questions Before Ordering?
Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.
Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.
For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
