Description
Lumex Everyday Hip Chair With Adjustable Footrest – A High-Seat Hip Chair for Easier Sitting and Standing
The Lumex Everyday hip chair has a seat that sits 27¼” off the floor, much higher than a regular armchair, so the user doesn’t have to sink low to sit or push up from a deep seat to stand. Lumex says it’s ideal for people with arthritis and for patients who have had hip or knee surgery, and it’s rated for 350 lbs, evenly distributed.
If you’re setting up the house for recovery and searching for a hip surgery chair or a chair for after hip replacement, this is the classic design: a high upholstered seat, padded full-length arms to push up from, and a footrest you can set at three heights so the feet have somewhere to rest.
Many people are told after hip surgery to keep the hip from bending past a certain point. A high seat can help with that, but your surgeon or therapist knows your limits. Follow your surgeon’s or therapist’s instructions, and check the measurements below with them before you order. Choose Blue Ridge, Jade or Rosewood in the dropdown above.
Why Choose the Lumex Everyday Hip Chair?
It’s built for one job: making sitting down and getting up easier. Lumex says the high seat helps reduce stress and fatigue on joints while sitting and when getting in and out of the chair. The seat and back use high-density foam for longer sitting, the full-length arms are padded for a firm push when standing, and the metal frame with a padded seat and back wipes clean.
Who Is the Everyday Hip Chair Best For?
Lumex designed it for people who have difficulty sitting down or standing up, including:
- Patients coming home after hip or knee surgery whose care team wants a higher seat
- People with arthritis in the hips or knees who struggle with low sofas and armchairs
- Taller users who find standard chairs too low
- Caregivers who want a sturdy chair with full arms for safer stand-ups
Setting up a room for recovery? Our Medical Equipment Knowledge Base covers the equipment most families need at home.
Who May Need a Different Chair?
- People who want to recline or nap in the chair: the hip chair sits upright. A medical recliner such as the Lumex Clinical Care Recliner is made for that.
- Users over 350 lbs: call us at 585-505-6665 for a higher-capacity chair.
- Shorter users whose feet won’t reach the footrest comfortably: check the footrest numbers below with your therapist first.
- Anyone who needs a chair for the shower or toilet: this is a living-room chair, not a bath chair.
27¼” High Seat
The seat is 27¼” from the floor to the top of the seat (Lumex calls it a 27″ high seat). Standing up from a seat this high takes much less bending at the hip and knee than standing from a typical living-room chair.
Adjustable-Height Footrest With an Anti-Slip Strip
Because the seat is high, the feet need a place to rest. The footrest sets at three heights with two spring-loaded knobs, one on each side of the frame. It has an anti-slip strip that Lumex says adds safety and helps during repositioning. Don’t stand on the footrest: Lumex warns the chair may tip, since the footrest isn’t made to hold a person’s full weight.
Padded Full-Length Arms
The arms run the full length of the seat and sit 32″ off the floor, 5″ above the seat. They give the user a padded, steady place to push from when standing and to hold when lowering down.
350 lb Weight Capacity and a Metal Frame
Lumex rates the Everyday Hip Chair for 350 lbs, evenly distributed. The sturdy metal frame and padded seat and back are easy to clean and maintain.
Choosing Your Options
There’s one dropdown: Color, for the upholstery. Graham-Field lists the same frame, seat height and measurements for all three colors.
| Color | Graham-Field code |
|---|---|
| Blue Ridge | GF4405427 |
| Jade | GF4405857 |
| Rosewood | GF4405863 |
Pick the color that suits the room. Questions? Call us at 585-505-6665.
Hip Chair vs. a Medical Recliner
A hip chair keeps the user upright on a high, firm seat so getting in and out takes less bending. A medical recliner tips back for resting and often has a lower seat. After hip surgery, many care teams prefer the upright hip chair for everyday sitting. Ask your surgeon or therapist which is right for you.
Common Problem → Everyday Hip Chair Solution
Problem: Linda is coming home after a hip replacement. Her favorite armchair is low and soft, and her therapist told her not to sit anywhere that makes her hips bend too far.
Solution: The Everyday Hip Chair’s 27¼” high seat means she doesn’t sink down to sit, and the padded full-length arms give her something solid to push up from. The footrest gives her feet a place to rest at the height that suits her.
“How do we know if it’s high enough for her?” Bring the seat height (27¼”) and the footrest numbers below to her therapist and follow what they tell you.
Sizing & Fit
- Seat height: 27¼” from the floor.
- Seat: 19″ wide, 16″ deep; 17¾” between the arms.
- Arms: 32″ from the floor, 5″ above the seat.
- Footrest, high: top of footrest 9¼” off the floor, 18″ below the top of the seat.
- Footrest, mid: 8¼” off the floor, 19″ below the seat.
- Footrest, low: 7¼” off the floor, 20″ below the seat.
- Room needed: 25″ wide, 24½” deep, 40¾” tall overall.
- Weight: 350 lbs maximum, evenly distributed.
A quick check: measure the user’s lower leg from the back of the knee to the floor (in shoes) while seated. Compare it with the seat-to-footrest numbers above, then confirm with the therapist.
Assembly
The chair arrives with the frame and seat-back assembly in the carton. Lumex says you’ll need a #2 Phillips screwdriver to attach the seat-back assembly with four screws and to fit the footrest. The footrest knobs use a thread-locking compound, and Lumex asks you to let it cure at least 24 hours before using the chair. Follow the assembly instructions that come in the box, and don’t use the chair until the footrest is locked at the right height.
Care & Cleaning
Lumex’s instructions say to clean the chair with a soft cloth dampened with soap and water or a mild household detergent, wipe it with a cloth dampened with clear water, then dry it with a clean, soft cloth. Never use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads. Lumex also asks you to inspect the chair weekly and tighten the fasteners as needed.
What’s Included
The hip chair frame, the seat-back assembly, the adjustable footrest with its two height knobs, and Lumex’s assembly and operation instructions. Ask us to confirm anything else before you order.
Warranty
Lumex’s instructions list a limited warranty of two years on the frame and one year on the upholstery. As an authorized Graham-Field dealer, we’ll help you with any warranty claim.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Lumex Everyday Hip Chair?
It’s a high-seat chair, 27¼” from floor to seat, with padded full-length arms and a footrest you can set at three heights. Lumex designed it for people who have trouble sitting down or standing up, including people with arthritis or after hip or knee surgery.
Is this a good chair for after hip replacement?
It’s a common choice, because the high seat means less bending at the hip when you sit and stand. Every recovery is different, so follow your surgeon’s or therapist’s instructions and check the seat height with them first.
How high is the seat?
The seat is 27¼” from the floor. Lumex describes it as a 27″ high seat.
Can I change the seat height?
Lumex lists one seat height, 27¼”. What adjusts is the footrest, which has three positions.
How does the footrest adjust?
Pull each of the two spring-loaded knobs out and turn it a quarter turn, move the footrest to the height you want, then turn each knob back to lock it. Lumex offers high (9¼” off the floor), mid (8¼”) and low (7¼”) positions.
Can I stand on the footrest?
No. Lumex warns the chair may tip if you stand on the footrest. It’s a rest for the legs, not a step.
How much weight does it hold?
Lumex rates it for 350 lbs, evenly distributed.
How big is it?
It’s 25″ wide, 24½” deep and 40¾” tall overall. The seat is 19″ wide and 16″ deep, with 17¾” between the arms.
Does it need assembly?
A little. You attach the seat-back assembly to the frame with four screws and fit the footrest, using a #2 Phillips screwdriver. Let the thread-locking compound on the footrest knobs cure at least 24 hours before using the chair.
How do I clean it?
Wipe it with a soft cloth and soap and water or a mild detergent, rinse with a cloth dampened in clear water and dry it. Don’t use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
What is the warranty?
Lumex lists a limited warranty of two years on the frame and one year on the upholstery. Call us and we’ll help with any claim.
Does Medicare cover a hip chair?
Coverage for a hip chair depends on your plan. Check with your plan before you order, and call us if you have questions.

Shipping & Returns
Shipping & Return Policy
At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.
Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.
Shipping & Order Processing
We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.
Processing Time
Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.
Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.
Transit & Delivery Time
Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.
Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.
Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas
Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.
Freight & Oversized Equipment
Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.
30-Day Return Policy
We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.
Eligible products generally include:
- Electric and power wheelchairs
- Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
- Mobility scooters
- Walkers and rollators
- Patient lifts
- Wheelchair ramps
- Hospital and homecare beds
- Eligible medical mattresses
- Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
- Overbed tables
- Bathroom benches and shower chairs
- Other eligible medical and mobility equipment
Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.
Return Authorization
Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.
You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.
Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.
Condition of Returned Merchandise
To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:
- In brand-new and unused condition
- In its complete original manufacturer packaging
- With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
- Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
- In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer
We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.
Restocking Fees
Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.
These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.
If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.
Return Shipping & Shipping Charges
The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.
Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.
Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.
Non-Returnable Products
For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.
We currently do not accept returns on:
- Parts & accessories
- Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
- Patient lift slings
- Custom or made-to-order products
- Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page
If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.
Damaged or Incorrect Orders
We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.
If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.
Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.
If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.
Refused Deliveries
Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.
A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.
Return Shipping Deadline
Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.
This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.
Refund Processing
Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.
The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.
If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.
Custom & Made-to-Order Products
Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.
For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.
If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.
Questions Before Ordering?
Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.
Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.
For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
