Description
Graham-Field 9702 Series Physician Stool With Aluminum Base and D-Handle Release
The Graham-Field 9702 Series is a physician stool with aluminum base: a 24″ aluminum base with toe caps, a pneumatic seat you adjust with a D-handle release, 2″ hard wheel casters, a 16″ seat and a 350 lb weight capacity, evenly distributed. It’s the step-up model for practices that want a metal finish in the exam room.
As an aluminum base exam stool, it gives the room a metal finish instead of a plastic base. The D-handle physician stool release is a D-shaped handle that’s easy to find and grip. The standard seat adjusts from 17.5″ to 23″, and the lab/counter version from 23.5″ to 34″. Choose it plain, with a backrest, a footring, both, or lab height, in any of Graham-Field’s 24 industry-standard vinyl upholstery colors.
Want a lower-priced stool with a black composite base? See the Graham-Field 9501 Series Physician Stool.
Why Choose the Graham-Field 9702 Aluminum Base Stool?
First impressions in an exam room come from the furniture as much as the décor. The 9702’s aluminum base gives a clean, finished look that goes well with stainless and chrome fixtures, and the legs are finished with toe caps. Underneath the looks, you get the same Graham-Field stool basics: pneumatic height adjustment, a 16″ seat on a 3/4″ composite substrate with a steel reinforcement plate, a wide 24″ base on hard wheel casters and a 350 lb rating.
The D-handle release is the other reason people choose it. Instead of a small lever, you reach for a D-shaped handle, which is easy to find when you adjust the height many times a day. Every configuration comes in all 24 colors, too.
Who Is the 9702 Aluminum Base Stool Best For?
Graham-Field designs it as a medical-room or clinical stool for professional use. It’s a good fit for:
- Practices that want exam room stools with a metal base to match stainless or chrome fixtures
- Specialty, dermatology, dental and surgical offices where the room’s look matters to patients
- Providers who adjust seat height often and want an easy-to-grab D-handle release
- Labs and counters (the lab/counter configuration, 23.5″ to 34″)
- Clinics that want matching stools in their own upholstery color

Who May Need a Different Stool?
- Users over 350 lbs: Graham-Field rates the 9702 for 350 lbs, evenly distributed. Call us about higher-capacity seating.
- Practices on a tighter budget: the 9501 Series has the same capacity, seat, configurations and colors with a black nylon composite base and single lever release.
- Home or patient use: Graham-Field intends this stool for professional use in medical rooms and clinics. It isn’t a patient chair or a transfer aid.
24″ Aluminum Base With Toe Caps
Graham-Field builds the 9702 on an aluminum base with toe caps on the ends of the legs. It measures 24″ across with the casters, a wide footprint Graham-Field chose for greater stability, and rolls on 2″ hard wheel casters.
D-Handle Pneumatic Release
Seat height adjusts on a pneumatic gas cylinder, and the release is a D-handle rather than a small lever, so it’s easy to find and grip. Graham-Field’s instructions: pull up to raise the stool, push down to lower it.
Seat Height: 17.5″ to 23″ Standard, 23.5″ to 34″ Lab/Counter
The standard configurations adjust from 17.5″ to 23″, a good range for working at a standard exam table or desk. The lab/counter stool with backrest and footring adjusts from 23.5″ to 34″ for counters, lab benches and tall work surfaces. With a backrest at standard height, the stool stands 32.5″ to 37.5″ overall.
350 lb Weight Capacity
Graham-Field rates the 9702 Series for a maximum of 350 lbs (159 kg), evenly distributed, in every configuration.
16″ Steel-Reinforced Seat in 24 Colors
The 16″ round seat, which Graham-Field says comfortably fits most users, is built on a 3/4″ thick composite substrate with a steel reinforcement plate and covered in Graham-Field’s Esprit vinyl. All 24 colors are available in every 9702 configuration.
Choosing Your Options
Pick a Configuration first, then an Upholstery color:
| Configuration | What it adds and who it’s for | Height (Graham-Field) | Graham-Field code |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | No backrest, no footring. The simplest, most compact stool. | 17.5″ to 23″ seat height | 9702-xx |
| With backrest | Adds a backrest for lower-back support during longer exams, procedures or charting. | 17.5″ to 23″ seat height; 32.5″ to 37.5″ overall | 9702-B-xx |
| With footring | Adds an 18″ footring around the column to rest your feet on when the seat is set high. | 17.5″ to 23″ seat height | 9702-FR-xx |
| With backrest and footring | Both: back support plus a place for your feet. A good all-day setup. | 17.5″ to 23″ seat height; 32.5″ to 37.5″ overall | 9702-BFR-xx |
| Lab height with backrest and footring | A taller lab/counter stool with backrest and footring, for lab benches, high counters and tall work surfaces. | 23.5″ to 34″ seat height | 9702-10BFR-xx |
- Footring: when the seat is raised high, your feet can’t reach the floor. The 18″ footring gives them a place to rest so they don’t dangle, which takes pressure off the backs of your thighs, and it gives you a step for getting on and off. Graham-Field has you set the footring at the height you want on the cylinder during assembly.
- Backrest: worth it for anyone who sits for long stretches, such as longer procedures, therapy sessions or charting. Skip it if you mostly perch for a few minutes at a time and want the smallest stool.
- Lab height: pick it when you work at a counter, lab bench or high exam table instead of a standard-height table. The seat goes up to 34″, and it comes with the backrest and footring because at that height you’ll want both.
- Not sure? Backrest and footring is the most versatile setup. Standard is the most compact.
Upholstery color: Graham-Field makes every 9702 configuration in all 24 of its industry-standard Esprit vinyl colors: Alabaster (AL), Aqua Green (AQ), Artichoke (AR), Black (BL), British Tan (BT), Blue (BU), Dusty Blue (DB), Doe (DO), Gray (GR), Moss (MO), Navy (NA), Northwoods (NO), Ocean Gray (OG), Pearl (PL), Palm (PM), Plum (PU), Shadow (SH), Saddle Tan (ST), Teal (TE), Tea Leaf (TL), Violet (VI), Warm Gray (WG), White (WH), Wedgewood (WW). The two letters at the end of each Graham-Field code are the color. Colors on screen can look slightly different from the finished vinyl.
9702 Series vs. 9501 Series
The two share the basics: pneumatic height adjustment, a 16″ seat, a 24″ base, 2″ hard wheel casters, a 350 lb rating, five configurations and 24 colors. The 9702 adds an aluminum base with toe caps and a D-handle release, and its standard seat sits a little lower (17.5″ to 23″ vs. 18.5″ to 24″). The 9501 uses a black nylon composite base and a single lever release and costs less. If the look of the room or an easy-grip release matters, go with the 9702.
Common Problem → 9702 Solution
Problem: A dermatology office just renovated its exam rooms with new cabinetry and stainless fixtures, and the old black plastic stools look out of place. The providers also complain the small levers are hard to find.
Solution: The 9702’s aluminum base suits the new fixtures, the D-handle release is easy to find, and the office picks one upholstery color for every room, with a lab/counter stool (23.5″ to 34″) for the procedure counter.
“Will the lab stool work at our counter?” Measure from the floor to the counter top and call us at 585-505-6665. With the seat adjustable from 23.5″ to 34″, we’ll tell you whether it’s the right fit.
Sizing & Fit
- Seat height: standard configurations 17.5″ to 23″; lab/counter 23.5″ to 34″.
- Overall height with backrest: 32.5″ to 37.5″ (standard height).
- Footprint: 24″ across the base with casters. Make sure there’s room to roll between the exam table, cabinets and the door.
- Seat: 16″ diameter. Footring: 18″ diameter.
- Weight: under 350 lbs, evenly distributed.
Care & Cleaning
Graham-Field’s instructions: clean the stool by hand with warm water and a mild soap or detergent, rinse with clear water and let it air dry. To disinfect, use a diluted solution of 10% (or less) household bleach, rinse with clear water and air dry. Don’t use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads on any part of the stool. Check the stool for damage before each use, and if it has a backrest, check every three months that the backrest screws are tight. The user manual also covers stain removal for the vinyl upholstery.
What’s Included
The stool ships unassembled and goes together without tools. Graham-Field’s instructions list the base, the casters (they press into the base), the gas cylinder and the seat, plus the backrest and footring on configurations that include them. Assembly and operation instructions come in the box.
Warranty
Graham-Field’s Lumex limited warranty on stools covers the frame for 5 years, mechanical components for 3 years, and the casters and upholstered seat for 1 year, for the original purchaser from the date of shipment. Labor isn’t included. As an authorized Graham-Field dealer, we’ll handle a claim with you.

Shipping & Returns
Shipping & Return Policy
At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.
Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.
Shipping & Order Processing
We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.
Processing Time
Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.
Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.
Transit & Delivery Time
Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.
Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.
Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas
Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.
Freight & Oversized Equipment
Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.
30-Day Return Policy
We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.
Eligible products generally include:
- Electric and power wheelchairs
- Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
- Mobility scooters
- Walkers and rollators
- Patient lifts
- Wheelchair ramps
- Hospital and homecare beds
- Eligible medical mattresses
- Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
- Overbed tables
- Bathroom benches and shower chairs
- Other eligible medical and mobility equipment
Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.
Return Authorization
Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.
You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.
Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.
Condition of Returned Merchandise
To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:
- In brand-new and unused condition
- In its complete original manufacturer packaging
- With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
- Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
- In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer
We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.
Restocking Fees
Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.
These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.
If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.
Return Shipping & Shipping Charges
The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.
Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.
Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.
Non-Returnable Products
For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.
We currently do not accept returns on:
- Parts & accessories
- Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
- Patient lift slings
- Custom or made-to-order products
- Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page
If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.
Damaged or Incorrect Orders
We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.
If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.
Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.
If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.
Refused Deliveries
Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.
A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.
Return Shipping Deadline
Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.
This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.
Refund Processing
Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.
The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.
If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.
Custom & Made-to-Order Products
Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.
For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.
If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.
Questions Before Ordering?
Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.
Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.
For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
