Description
Lumex 22″ PVC Shower Commode Chair with Sliding Footrest – Rolling Shower Commode Chair, 375 lb Capacity
The Lumex 22″ PVC Shower Commode Chair with Sliding Footrest is a PVC shower commode chair that lets a caregiver roll someone from the bedside into the shower, and use it as a commode chair, without a second transfer. The frame is health care grade PVC, the seat is an elongated, contoured open-front commode seat, and Graham-Field rates it for 375 lbs.
It’s a rolling shower commode chair on threaded stem casters, with 22″ between the curved arms, a 21″ seat height and a 19 1/2″ deep seat. The arms have anti-slip handgrips, the quick-drying mesh back lifts off for cleaning, and it’s a shower commode chair with footrest: the telescoping footrest slides in or out so feet are supported while the chair moves.
This is the standard-width chair in the Lumex PVC line. If the user needs more room, the Lumex 26″ Bariatric PVC Shower Commode Chair is the wider version with a higher weight rating. Both are authorized Lumex products from Graham-Field, shipped nationwide and delivered to your door.
Why Choose the Lumex 22″ PVC Shower Commode Chair?
Every transfer is a chance to fall. A shower commode chair cuts the number of transfers down: the user sits once, at the bedside, and the caregiver rolls them to the toilet area and into a roll-in shower. The open-front seat gives access for washing and toileting hygiene while they stay seated.
PVC is a smart material for a chair that lives in the shower. The frame is plastic pipe, so there’s no painted steel to chip, and Lumex reinforces the joints where the casters fit in, which is where rolling chairs take the most stress. The mesh back dries fast and comes off, and the curved arms don’t have sharp edges to bump against.
Who Is the Lumex 22″ PVC Shower Commode Chair Best For?
- People who can’t stand safely in the shower and need to be wheeled in seated
- Home caregivers who want one chair for the shower and for toileting
- Users recovering from surgery, a stroke or a long hospital stay
- Homes with a roll-in shower or a low-threshold shower
- Group homes and care settings that want an easy-to-rinse PVC chair
- Users up to 375 lbs who fit comfortably in 22″ between the arms
For a side-by-side look at the different styles, read our Ultimate Guide to Choosing the Best Shower Commode Chair for Elderly.
Who May Need a Different Shower Commode Chair?
If the user weighs more than 375 lbs or needs more than 22″ between the arms, step up to the Lumex 26″ Bariatric PVC Shower Commode Chair. If they slide across to the chair from the bed rather than standing to pivot, a drop-arm model like the Lumex Drop Arm Versamode Commode Chair with Wheels makes side transfers easier. If you only need a rolling seat for the shower and no commode seat, look at the Lumex Shower Transport Chair with Wheels. And if your shower has a raised curb, a rolling chair won’t get over it easily, so call us first.
375 lb Weight Capacity
Graham-Field rates the 22″ PVC shower commode chair for up to 375 lbs. That covers most adult users. For a user close to or over 375 lbs, the 26″ bariatric version is rated for 425 lbs.
22″ Wide Seat, 22″ Between the Arms
The seat is 22″ wide with 22″ between the arms, and it’s 19 1/2″ deep. Lumex calls it a deluxe elongated, extra heavy-duty, contoured open-front seat. The curved arms give the user something to hold without sharp edges, and the anti-slip handgrips help when hands are wet.
21″ Seat Height
The seat sits 21″ off the floor. That’s a comfortable height for a caregiver to work at and for many users to stand up from. The overall chair is 40″ tall, 26″ wide and 23″ deep.
Health Care Grade PVC Frame and 3″ Heavy-Duty Casters
Lumex builds the frame from what Graham-Field calls the highest quality health care grade PVC. The fittings where the casters go in have dual reinforcement for added support. It rolls on four 3″ heavy-duty threaded stem casters, and two of them brake, so the chair stays put while the user sits down, stands up or washes.
Sliding Footrest That Moves In or Out
The telescoping footrest slides out to support the user’s feet while the chair is moving and slides back in when they need to plant their feet to stand, or when you need room to wash their feet and legs.
Quick-Drying, Removable Mesh Back
A mesh back support comes standard. It dries quickly after a shower and comes off for cleaning. Graham-Field ships this chair with Royal Blue mesh as standard. Lumex also makes it in Forest Green and Mauve, in anti-bacterial mesh or anti-bacterial solid vinyl; any color other than Royal Blue mesh, or a vinyl back, is a special order, so ask us before you buy.
Lumex 22″ vs. Lumex 26″ Bariatric PVC Shower Commode Chair
Both chairs share the same build: health care grade PVC, elongated open-front seat, removable mesh back, curved arms with anti-slip grips, two braking casters and a sliding footrest. The difference is size.
- 22″ (this chair): 22″ seat, 3″ casters, 375 lb capacity, 19 1/2″ seat depth, 21″ seat height, 26″ overall width
- 26″ bariatric: 26″ seat, 4″ casters, 425 lb capacity, 22″ seat depth, 20″ seat height, 30″ overall width
The 22″ is the better pick for most users and narrower bathrooms, because it’s 4″ slimmer overall. Pick the 26″ for a larger user or anyone who feels squeezed between the arms.
Common Problem → Lumex 22″ PVC Shower Commode Chair Solution
Problem: Dad has to get from his bed to a shower chair, then off the chair to the toilet. Every move is a two-person job and the family is worried about a fall.
Solution: He sits in the Lumex PVC shower commode chair once, at the bedside. The caregiver rolls him to the bathroom with his feet on the sliding footrest, sets the two caster brakes, and the open-front seat lets him stay seated for toileting and washing.
“Will he be able to stand up from it?” The seat is 21″ high, the arms are curved with anti-slip handgrips, and the footrest slides in so he can plant his feet. Give us his height and we’ll talk it through.
Sizing & Fit
- Doorways: the chair is 26″ wide and 23″ deep overall. Measure the narrowest door it has to roll through, usually the bathroom door, and make sure it’s wider than 26″.
- User width: measure across the user’s hips while seated. If it’s close to 22″, the 26″ bariatric chair will be more comfortable.
- Shower entry: a rolling chair needs a roll-in or very low threshold. Measure the height of any curb.
- Toilet: if you plan to roll it over a toilet, measure the toilet’s height, including the seat, and send it to us. Graham-Field lists the 21″ seat height but not the clearance under the seat frame, so we’ll check with you first.
Call 585-505-6665 with your measurements before you order.
Care & Cleaning
Lumex’s PVC shower chair instructions cover care part by part:
- PVC frame: wipe it down with a non-abrasive cleanser. Don’t use solvents. A spray furniture wax brings back the shine.
- Casters: in wet use, keep them lubricated with white lithium paste or a similar lubricant, and clear out hair and mop threads.
- Mesh back: machine wash in cold water only with regular detergent and one cup of bleach, no softener. Spin dry only, because dryer heat shrinks the mesh, then hang it on the frame to air dry.
- Footrest: scrub soap build-up off the sliding surface with a soft brush and soapy water, and use furniture spray wax to keep it sliding easily.
Lumex says not to use the chair if the casters are rusted and don’t move easily, or if any fitting cracks.
What’s Included
Per Lumex’s PVC shower chair instructions, the box holds the partially assembled chair, four 3″ casters (2 braking and 2 non-braking), the PVC back with its mesh sling and six 1/2″ stainless steel screws. You attach the casters and the back with a Phillips screwdriver. The chair ships with Royal Blue mesh unless you special-order another color. No commode pail is listed, so ask us if you need one. A positioning belt (Lumex item 89301) is sold separately.
Lumex 22″ PVC Shower Commode Chair Warranty
Graham-Field gives a one (1) year limited warranty on the PVC frame and a six (6) month limited warranty on all other materials.

Will it fit through my bathroom door?
It will if the doorway is wider than 26″, the chair’s overall width. The chair is 23″ deep and 40″ tall overall.
Can it roll over my toilet?
Check with us first. Graham-Field’s spec sheet only says its 30″ bariatric models can’t be used over a toilet, and it doesn’t list the clearance under this chair’s seat frame, so send us your toilet’s height, including the seat, and we’ll confirm.

No pail is listed. Lumex’s instructions list the chair, four casters, the mesh back and six screws, so ask us if you need a pail and we’ll help.
What color is it?
It ships with Royal Blue mesh as standard. Lumex also makes Forest Green and Mauve, in mesh or solid vinyl, and those are a special order, so ask us.
Do the casters lock?
Two of them do. The chair rolls on four 3″ heavy-duty casters, two braking and two non-braking, per Lumex’s instructions.
How does the sliding footrest work?
The telescoping footrest slides out to hold the user’s feet while the chair rolls and slides back in when they stand or need their feet washed.
Does it need assembly?
A little. The chair arrives partially assembled, and you attach the four casters and the mesh back with six screws and a Phillips screwdriver.
Is a positioning belt available?
Yes. Lumex sells a positioning belt separately as item 89301. Ask us and we’ll add it to your order.
What warranty does it have?
Graham-Field gives a one year limited warranty on the PVC frame and a six month limited warranty on all other materials.

Shipping & Returns
Shipping & Return Policy
At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.
Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.
Shipping & Order Processing
We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.
Processing Time
Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.
Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.
Transit & Delivery Time
Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.
Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.
Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas
Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.
Freight & Oversized Equipment
Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.
30-Day Return Policy
We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.
Eligible products generally include:
- Electric and power wheelchairs
- Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
- Mobility scooters
- Walkers and rollators
- Patient lifts
- Wheelchair ramps
- Hospital and homecare beds
- Eligible medical mattresses
- Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
- Overbed tables
- Bathroom benches and shower chairs
- Other eligible medical and mobility equipment
Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.
Return Authorization
Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.
You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.
Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.
Condition of Returned Merchandise
To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:
- In brand-new and unused condition
- In its complete original manufacturer packaging
- With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
- Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
- In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer
We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.
Restocking Fees
Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.
These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.
If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.
Return Shipping & Shipping Charges
The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.
Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.
Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.
Non-Returnable Products
For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.
We currently do not accept returns on:
- Parts & accessories
- Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
- Patient lift slings
- Custom or made-to-order products
- Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page
If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.
Damaged or Incorrect Orders
We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.
If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.
Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.
If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.
Refused Deliveries
Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.
A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.
Return Shipping Deadline
Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.
This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.
Refund Processing
Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.
The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.
If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.
Custom & Made-to-Order Products
Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.
For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.
If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.
Questions Before Ordering?
Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.
Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.
For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
