Description

Shoprider 6Runner 14 Heavy Duty Power Wheelchair – Bariatric Mid-Wheel Drive Mobility

When a standard power wheelchair does not provide enough capacity, seating room, or heavy-duty support for everyday mobility, the Shoprider 6Runner 14 heavy duty power wheelchair offers a substantially stronger platform built for daily use. With a 450 lb weight capacity, 14″ mid-wheel drive, six points of ground contact, four-post seating system, reclining captain seat, and suspension, the 6Runner 14 is designed around stability, comfort, and dependable powered mobility for larger users.

For someone specifically searching for a bariatric power wheelchair, capacity is only part of the equation. The chair also needs appropriate seating, controlled maneuverability, foot support, battery performance, and a base capable of supporting regular use. The 6Runner 14 brings those elements together in a 26″-wide heavy-duty platform with a 21″W × 21″D captain seat as the current standard seating configuration, height-adjustable flip-back armrests, a base-mounted foot platform, and joystick control that can be positioned on the left or right.

This heavy duty power chair is also highly configurable. Shoprider offers alternative captain and pan seating, including wider reclining seating options, upgraded battery capacities, alternative drive tires, swing-away joystick mounts, swing-away footrests, elevating leg rests, residual limb supports, an extra-large footplate, and practical accessories. This allows the 6Runner 14 to be configured around more specific seating and mobility requirements instead of treating every heavy-duty user as though they need exactly the same setup.

Why Choose the Shoprider 6Runner 14?

The 6Runner 14 is built for the user who needs more than a conventional everyday power chair. Its 450 lb maximum weight capacity places it firmly in the heavy-duty mobility category, while its mid-wheel-drive system and six-wheel layout provide the maneuverability and stability characteristics that define Shoprider’s 6Runner platform.

The powered 14″ center drive wheels sit between 7″ front and rear casters, creating six points of contact with the ground. Shoprider combines this base with a stable four-post seating system and suspension to support smooth operation across appropriate everyday driving surfaces.

Unlike lightweight travel chairs that prioritize folding or low lifting weight, the 6Runner 14 is a substantial daily-use mobility system. It measures approximately 26″ wide × 44″ long and weighs approximately 233.69 lbs, with actual unit weight varying according to installed options. This is a chair designed around heavy-duty powered mobility rather than frequent manual lifting.

Heavy Duty Power Wheelchair with 450 lb Capacity

The most important distinction between the 6Runner 14 and a standard-capacity power chair is its 450 lb user weight capacity. For a larger adult, simply choosing a chair with a physically larger seat is not enough. The wheelchair itself must be rated for the user’s weight and provide an appropriately designed mobility base and seating system.

The 6Runner 14 addresses this with a heavy-duty chassis, large 14″ center drive wheels, six-point ground contact, four-post seating, and a standard 21″ × 21″ captain seat. This combination makes it particularly relevant for shoppers comparing heavy duty power wheelchairs, bariatric power wheelchairs, and 450 lb capacity power chairs.

Weight capacity should always be treated as a maximum manufacturer rating rather than a seating-fit recommendation. Seat width, seat depth, positioning, transfers, armrest clearance, foot support, and the user’s individual mobility requirements should also be considered when selecting a bariatric power chair.

What Is a Bariatric Power Wheelchair?

A bariatric power wheelchair is a powered mobility chair designed to accommodate higher user weight capacities than many standard power wheelchairs. Depending on the model, this may involve a reinforced or larger mobility base, wider seating choices, larger wheels, different batteries, and other components selected for heavy-duty operation.

The Shoprider 6Runner 14 fits this category with its 450 lb capacity and heavy-duty mid-wheel-drive platform. It also provides multiple seating choices, including wider captain seating and reclining-seat configurations, so the chair can be configured beyond its standard 21″ × 21″ seat when appropriate.

This distinction is useful when comparing the 6Runner 14 with smaller power wheelchairs. A user who only needs a lightweight chair for occasional transportation may be better served by a travel-oriented model. Someone who specifically requires higher weight capacity, substantial seating, and regular powered mobility is looking at a different class of equipment—and that is where the 6Runner 14 is positioned.

14-Inch Mid-Wheel Drive with Six-Point Stability

The 6Runner 14 uses a mid-wheel-drive system, placing the large 14″ powered drive wheels near the center of the wheelchair base. A 7″ solid caster is positioned toward the front and rear on each side, giving the chair a total of six points of ground contact.

This is one of the defining characteristics of the 6Runner 14. Rather than relying only on its 450 lb rating to define it as a heavy-duty chair, Shoprider builds the chair around a six-wheel mobility platform intended to provide added stability during daily operation.

The chair also incorporates a four-post seating system and suspension. Together, these features create a heavy-duty power wheelchair designed to provide stable, controlled mobility across appropriate indoor and maintained outdoor driving surfaces.

Reclining Captain Seating for Everyday Comfort

Heavy-duty capacity is important, but a daily-use power wheelchair also needs a seating system designed around the user. Shoprider describes the 6Runner 14 with a reclining captain seat, and the current order form identifies the standard seat configuration as a spacious 21″W × 21″D black captain seat.

The seating system also includes height-adjustable, flip-back armrests. Flip-back armrests can provide useful clearance when approaching tables or during certain transfer situations, while height adjustment allows the arm support position to be configured more appropriately for the user.

For buyers requiring a different seating configuration, the 6Runner 14 offers one of its strongest advantages: a broad selection of factory seating options rather than a single fixed seat size.

Optional Wider and Alternative Seating Configurations

The standard 6Runner 14 comes with a 21″W × 21″D black captain seat, but Shoprider offers multiple alternative captain and pan-seat configurations for users whose dimensions or seating requirements call for something different.

Available captain-style options include 18″W × 17.5″D, 19″W × 18″D, 20″W × 18″D pillow-top, 21″W × 21″D, and a 24″W × 21.5″D reclining captain seat. An additional 22.5″W × 23.5″D reclining seat is also listed as an available seating configuration.

Pan-seat options include 16″W × 16″D, 18″W × 18″D, 18″W × 20″D, and 20″W × 20″D configurations. Seat upgrades may involve an additional charge and should be selected according to the user’s actual seating and positioning requirements.

Need a Different Seat Configuration?
The 6Runner 14 can be ordered with multiple captain and pan-seat configurations, including wider reclining seating. Call MedCare Mobility at 585-505-6665 or chat with a live agent for help reviewing available seating options, compatibility, and current upgrade pricing.

Battery Options and Up to 22 Miles Range

The 6Runner 14 can be configured with different battery capacities depending on the desired setup. Shoprider’s current technical specifications list dual 12V 50Ah batteries with a driving range of up to approximately 16 miles, or a higher-capacity battery configuration providing up to approximately 22 miles.

The factory order form identifies 22NF 50Ah AGM batteries as the standard equipment. Optional Group 34 60Ah Gel and Group 24 74Ah Gel battery configurations are also listed. Two batteries are required.

A 5A off-board charger comes standard. Shoprider also highlights easy battery access as a feature of the 6Runner 14, making the battery compartment more accessible when inspection, servicing, or eventual replacement is required.

Manufacturer-listed driving range is measured after the initial break-in period and should be understood as an up-to figure rather than a guaranteed distance. Actual range varies with battery configuration and condition, rider weight, terrain, inclines, temperature, driving behavior, installed equipment, charging practices, and overall wheelchair care.

Left- or Right-Side Joystick Control

The standard 6Runner 14 uses a fixed inline joystick mount that can be configured on either the left or right side. This allows the control position to be matched to the user’s preferred operating hand.

For users who need additional clearance or positioning flexibility, Shoprider offers optional swing-away basic fixed-length joystick mounts and swing-away magnetic length-adjustable joystick mounts. Both are available in left- and right-side configurations.

Ordering Note: Please enter LEFT or RIGHT for your preferred standard joystick position in the Order Notes during checkout.

Standard Foot Platform and Optional Leg Support

The standard 6Runner 14 includes a base-mounted foot platform. Shoprider identifies the standard platform as non-adjustable, with an optional mount available for users who require a different configuration.

An optional extra-large footplate measuring 12.5″D × 15.5″W is available for users who need a larger foot-support surface.

The chair can also be configured with paired swing-away footrests providing approximately 17″–19.5″ of adjustment or paired swing-away elevating leg rests providing approximately 18″–21″ of adjustment.

Optional residual limb supports can be selected individually for the left or right side when required.

Are Elevating Leg Rests Standard?

No. The standard 6Runner 14 configuration includes the base-mounted foot platform. Swing-away footrests, elevating leg rests, residual limb supports, and the extra-large footplate are optional configurations and may involve additional charges.

14-Inch Drive Wheels and Everyday Surface Capability

The 6Runner 14 gets its name in part from its substantial 14″ center drive wheels. Shoprider’s current technical sales sheet specifies 14″ pneumatic drive wheels, while the factory order form lists 14″ gray solid drive tires as the standard included ordering configuration, with black solid and gray pneumatic alternatives available as upgrades.

The chair provides approximately 3″ of ground clearance and a manufacturer-listed safe climbing angle of 6° / 10%. Its front and rear 7″ casters are solid.

Shoprider describes the suspension system as supporting smooth operation across most driving surfaces. The 6Runner 14 should nevertheless be understood as a heavy-duty daily-use power wheelchair rather than a specialized off-road wheelchair, and it should always be operated within the manufacturer’s surface, slope, and safety guidance.

Who Is the Shoprider 6Runner 14 Best For?

The 6Runner 14 is designed for the daily power wheelchair user who requires a higher-capacity mobility platform. It may be especially relevant for adults who need a power wheelchair rated above the capacity of many standard models or who require larger seating choices and more configurable positioning options.

It may also be considered by users comparing bariatric power wheelchairs who want more than a high weight rating alone. The 6Runner 14 combines its 450 lb capacity with mid-wheel drive, six points of ground contact, reclining captain seating, adjustable armrests, four-post seating, suspension, multiple battery options, and an extensive selection of factory seating and positioning upgrades.

The appropriate power wheelchair depends on more than body weight. Seat dimensions, transfers, posture, foot and leg positioning, control access, physical abilities, doorway clearances, home layout, transportation, and the environments where the wheelchair will be driven should all be considered before selecting a configuration.

6Runner 14 vs. a Standard Power Wheelchair

The clearest difference is capacity. Many everyday power wheelchairs are built around lower user weight limits and smaller standard seating. The 6Runner 14 provides a 450 lb maximum capacity and a standard 21″W × 21″D captain seat, with additional seating choices available when required.

Its physical platform is correspondingly substantial. At approximately 26″ wide, 44″ long, and 233.69 lbs before variations caused by installed options, the 6Runner 14 is not intended to compete with folding or lightweight travel chairs.

Instead, its strengths are those buyers commonly prioritize when searching for a heavy duty power chair: higher capacity, larger seating possibilities, stable six-wheel ground contact, mid-wheel drive, reclining seating, substantial batteries, and configurable positioning equipment.

Standard Shoprider 6Runner 14 Configuration

Understanding what comes standard is especially important when comparing heavy-duty power wheelchairs because many seating, battery, tire, and positioning choices may otherwise appear similar on a configuration sheet. The current standard 6Runner 14 setup includes:

  • ✔ 450 lb maximum weight capacity
  • ✔ 21″ × 21″ captain seat
  • ✔ Mid-wheel drive mobility system
  • ✔ Six-point ground contact design
  • ✔ Four-post seating system
  • ✔ Height-adjustable flip-back armrests
  • ✔ Base-mounted foot platform
  • ✔ Fixed inline joystick mount
  • ✔ Left or right joystick positioning
  • ✔ Dual 22NF 50Ah AGM batteries
  • ✔ 5A off-board battery charger
  • ✔ 14″ gray solid drive tires
  • ✔ Red standard base color

Optional Upgrades and Custom Configurations

One of the strongest advantages of the 6Runner 14 is the number of ways it can be configured beyond the standard unit. Depending on the user’s requirements, available factory upgrades include alternative captain seating, wider reclining seating, pan seating, higher-capacity Gel batteries, alternative drive tires, swing-away joystick mounts, an extra-large footplate, swing-away footrests, elevating leg rests, and residual limb supports.

Available battery upgrades include Group 34 60Ah Gel batteries and Group 24 74Ah Gel batteries. Drive-tire choices include the standard gray solid tire along with optional black solid and gray pneumatic configurations.

Because seating, batteries, front rigging, joystick mounts, and other options can affect fit, function, compatibility, price, and overall chair weight, it is important to distinguish these upgrades from the equipment included with the standard unit.

Need to Customize Your 6Runner 14?
Optional seating, batteries, drive tires, joystick mounts, footplates, footrests, elevating leg rests, residual limb supports, and other configurations are available. Call MedCare Mobility at 585-505-6665 or chat with a live agent for help reviewing compatibility, available configurations, and current upgrade pricing.

Available Shoprider 6Runner 14 Accessories

Shoprider offers several accessories that can make the 6Runner 14 more practical for everyday mobility. Current factory accessories include a metal oxygen tank holder, mesh oxygen tank holder, walker holder, cup holder, cane & crutch holder, large rear basket, and small rear basket.

A transit tie-down kit identified specifically for unoccupied transport is also available. The unoccupied designation is important: this accessory should not be interpreted as approval for the user to remain seated in the wheelchair while it is being transported in a motor vehicle.

For help selecting accessories or confirming compatibility with a particular 6Runner 14 configuration, call 585-505-6665 or chat with a live MedCare Mobility agent.

Common Mobility Problem → 6Runner 14 Solution

6Runner 14 Solution: The heavy-duty base combines 14″ mid-wheel drive, six points of ground contact, four-post seating, and suspension in a wheelchair designed for daily powered mobility.

Problem: The standard foot support or control position does not match the user’s needs.

6Runner 14 Solution: Optional footrests, elevating leg rests, residual limb supports, extra-large footplate, and swing-away joystick mounts provide additional factory configuration choices.

Shipping & Returns

Shipping & Return Policy

At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.

Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.

Shipping & Order Processing

We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.

Processing Time

Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.

Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.

Transit & Delivery Time

Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.

Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.

Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas

Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.

Freight & Oversized Equipment

Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.

30-Day Return Policy

We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.

Eligible products generally include:

  • Electric and power wheelchairs
  • Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
  • Mobility scooters
  • Walkers and rollators
  • Patient lifts
  • Wheelchair ramps
  • Hospital and homecare beds
  • Eligible medical mattresses
  • Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
  • Overbed tables
  • Bathroom benches and shower chairs
  • Other eligible medical and mobility equipment

Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.

Return Authorization

Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.

You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.

Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.

Condition of Returned Merchandise

To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:

  • In brand-new and unused condition
  • In its complete original manufacturer packaging
  • With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
  • Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
  • In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer

We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.

Restocking Fees

Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.

These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.

If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.

Return Shipping & Shipping Charges

The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.

Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.

Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.

Non-Returnable Products

For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.

We currently do not accept returns on:

  • Parts & accessories
  • Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
  • Patient lift slings
  • Custom or made-to-order products
  • Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page

If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.

Damaged or Incorrect Orders

We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.

If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.

Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.

If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.

Refused Deliveries

Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.

A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.

Return Shipping Deadline

Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.

This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.

Refund Processing

Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.

The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.

If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.

Custom & Made-to-Order Products

Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.

For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.

If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.
