Description
Stander Assist-A-Tray – Swivel Tray Table and Standing Handle in One for Your Sofa, Chair or Lift Chair
The Stander Assist-A-Tray is a stand assist tray table that sits under the legs of your own couch, chair, recliner or lift chair. It puts two things beside the seat: a 20 x 15 inch tray that swivels 360 degrees for meals, a laptop or a puzzle, and a sturdy standing handle you can push on when getting up or sitting down.
This tray table with standing handle doesn’t clamp or bolt to anything. The front and rear legs of the chair rest on its non-slip base pads, and the furniture’s own weight holds it in place. The base adjusts from 19 to 32.5 inches to match the distance between your chair’s front and back legs.
Stander rates the handle for 250 pounds and the tray for 15 pounds. The tray height adjusts from 26 to 32 inches, the handle from 34.5 to 40.5 inches, and the Assist-A-Tray comes with a cup holder and utensil compartment. The tray has a maple finish on a steel frame.
Why Choose the Stander Assist-A-Tray?
Getting out of a soft couch or deep recliner is hard, and many people end up pushing on a wobbly side table or the armrest. The Assist-A-Tray gives you a proper handle right where your hand lands, and because the chair is sitting on the base, the handle can’t slide away.
The tray is the bonus. It swings over your lap for dinner or a laptop and swings back out of the way when you want to stand. One product replaces a TV tray and a stand-assist handle, and it takes up very little floor space. As an authorized dealer and provider, we ship it fast nationwide and deliver it to your door. Not sure it fits your chair? Call us at 585-505-6665.
Who Is the Assist-A-Tray Best For?
The Assist-A-Tray suits:
- People who struggle to stand up from a sofa, armchair, recliner or lift chair
- Anyone who eats, reads or works from their favorite chair
- Living rooms where a separate TV tray and grab bar would crowd the space
- Four-legged furniture with 19 to 32.5 inches between the front and back legs
- Users up to Stander’s 250 lb handle rating

Who May Need a Different Product?
The Assist-A-Tray only works with four-legged furniture. Stander says it won’t fit a chair with a round or pedestal base, a chair without four legs, or legs less than 19 inches or more than 32.5 inches apart front to back. It’s also never for use on a bed. For a bed, the Stander Freedom Overbed Table attaches to the bed frame (tray only, no handle). If you only need the handle, the Stander CouchCane is the same idea without the tray, and if you only want a tray, the Stander Wonder Tray is a simpler choice.
Standing Handle Rated for 250 lb
Stander rates the ergonomic standing handle for 250 pounds (113 kg). Push down on it for leverage as you rise from the seat or lower yourself back down. Stander describes it as minimal to moderate weight support, so it steadies you and gives you something solid to push on; it doesn’t lift you.
20 x 15 Inch Tray Swivels 360 Degrees
The tray measures 20 x 15 inches and swivels and rotates a full 360 degrees. Turn it over your lap to eat or work, or out to the side to use it like an end table. Stander rates the tray for 15 pounds (6.8 kg). It doesn’t tilt front to back. You level it with the center bolt on the tray bracket, then lock it with the two side bolts.
Tray Adjusts 26 to 32 Inches, Handle 34.5 to 40.5 Inches
Set the tray height between 26 and 32 inches so it lines up with your chair’s seat and armrests, and set the handle between 34.5 and 40.5 inches so it’s comfortable to push on from a seated position. Both adjust with spring pins.
Fits Under Most Four-Legged Sofas, Chairs and Lift Chairs
Place the chair’s front and rear legs on top of the rubber base pads on one side. The base adjusts so the pads match legs that are 19 to 32.5 inches apart front to back. Measure that distance on your chair before you order. Stander’s manual says the base must stay firmly under heavy furniture at all times, and it shouldn’t be used with lightweight furniture that could move.
Assist-A-Tray vs. CouchCane
Stander says the Assist-A-Tray has the same assist handle as the CouchCane, plus the swiveling tray. Here’s the short version:
- Assist-A-Tray: handle plus 20″ x 15″ swivel tray, cup holder and utensil compartment; handle 34.5″ to 40.5″; base fits legs 19″ to 32.5″ apart; 25 lb.
- CouchCane: handle only; handle 31″ to 40.5″; longer base pads fit legs 17″ to 33″ apart; 19 lb.
Both are rated for 250 lb and both go under furniture, never a bed. If you’ll use the tray, get the Assist-A-Tray; if you only want help standing, the CouchCane is simpler.
Common Problem → Assist-A-Tray Solution
Problem: Grandpa spends most of the day in his recliner. He eats off a folding TV tray and uses it to push himself up, and it nearly tipped over last week.
Solution: The Assist-A-Tray sits under the recliner’s legs, so it can’t tip or slide. He swings the tray over for lunch, swings it away, and uses the standing handle to get up.
“Will it get in the way of the recline?” Stander warns to make sure the handle and upright don’t interfere with a lift chair or recliner’s movement, so set it up and test the full motion before he sits.
Safety Notes
From Stander’s instructions:
- For adults only. Stander says it’s never to be used by people with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia or restlessness, or by anyone who is sedated, confused or frail.
- Never use it on a bed, and never stand on, sit on or change a baby on the tray.
- Stander’s manual says never to use it with hot food or hot liquids.
- Keep the tray load to 15 lb, and stop using it if it shifts, is damaged or is missing parts.
- Children shouldn’t hang on or play with it.
Care & Cleaning
Stander says to clean it with warm water and soap and dry it thoroughly before use. Check regularly that the chair legs are still centered on the base pads.
What’s Included
The base with front and rear feet, the upright, the standing handle, the tray, a cup holder, the utensil compartment and the hardware and tools. Assembly is required; Stander’s manual shows each step.
Warranty
Stander’s instructions list a limited lifetime warranty for the original purchaser against defects in material and workmanship (register the product with Stander). Call us at 585-505-6665 with any warranty question.

Shipping & Returns
Shipping & Return Policy
At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.
Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.
Shipping & Order Processing
We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.
Processing Time
Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.
Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.
Transit & Delivery Time
Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.
Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.
Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas
Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.
Freight & Oversized Equipment
Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.
30-Day Return Policy
We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.
Eligible products generally include:
- Electric and power wheelchairs
- Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
- Mobility scooters
- Walkers and rollators
- Patient lifts
- Wheelchair ramps
- Hospital and homecare beds
- Eligible medical mattresses
- Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
- Overbed tables
- Bathroom benches and shower chairs
- Other eligible medical and mobility equipment
Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.
Return Authorization
Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.
You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.
Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.
Condition of Returned Merchandise
To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:
- In brand-new and unused condition
- In its complete original manufacturer packaging
- With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
- Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
- In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer
We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.
Restocking Fees
Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.
These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.
If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.
Return Shipping & Shipping Charges
The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.
Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.
Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.
Non-Returnable Products
For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.
We currently do not accept returns on:
- Parts & accessories
- Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
- Patient lift slings
- Custom or made-to-order products
- Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page
If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.
Damaged or Incorrect Orders
We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.
If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.
Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.
If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.
Refused Deliveries
Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.
A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.
Return Shipping Deadline
Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.
This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.
Refund Processing
Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.
The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.
If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.
Custom & Made-to-Order Products
Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.
For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.
If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.
Questions Before Ordering?
Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.
Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.
For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
