Description

Lumex Imperial Collection 3-in-1 Steel Drop Arm Commode – Bariatric Drop Arm Commode, 600 lb Capacity

The Lumex Imperial Collection 3-in-1 Steel Drop Arm Commode is a bariatric drop arm commode for larger users and for anyone who gets on and off the toilet by sliding sideways. Both arms drop below the seat, one at a time, so the user can transfer straight across from a bed or wheelchair instead of standing and turning. Graham-Field rates it for 600 lb, evenly distributed.

As a 600 lb commode, it gives you room as well as strength: a 23-inch-wide platform seat, 25 inches between the arms and an extra-wide welded steel base. The seat height adjusts from 19 1/2 to 23 1/2 inches in 1-inch steps, and the armrests are cushioned.

This heavy duty drop arm commode chair also works three ways. Use it as a bedside commode with the included pail, cover and splash shield, or take off the backbar and set it over the toilet as a raised toilet seat or a toilet safety frame. Graham-Field lists a three-year limited warranty.

Why Choose the Lumex Imperial Collection Drop Arm Commode?

Most commodes make the user stand up, pivot and sit back down. That stand-and-turn is the part caregivers worry about most, and it’s hard on whoever is doing the lifting. With the Imperial, the arm on the transfer side drops out of the way, the user slides across, and the arm locks back up automatically when it’s raised.

The release is built so a person with weak or stiff hands can work it, which Graham-Field points out for patients lacking manual dexterity. Add the 600 lb rating, the welded steel frame and a seat that stays comfortable for long sits, and you have a commode that fits bigger users without feeling cramped. As an authorized dealer and provider, we ship it fast nationwide and deliver it to your door. Questions first? Call us at 585-505-6665.

Who Is the Imperial Drop Arm Commode Best For?

The Imperial is a good fit for:

  • Larger or bariatric users who need a commode rated up to 600 lb
  • People who transfer sideways from a bed, wheelchair or chair, and caregivers who help with those transfers
  • Anyone recovering from surgery, a stroke or an injury who can’t safely stand and pivot
  • Users with weak or stiff hands who need a drop-arm release that’s easy to operate
  • Homes that need one piece of equipment to work at the bedside at night and over the toilet during the day

Planning the whole bathroom? Our bathroom safety guide for seniors walks through commodes, benches, grab bars and more.

Who May Need a Different Commode?

Look at another model if the user weighs more than 600 lb, if the space beside the bed or around the toilet is narrower than the commode’s 31-inch overall width, or if you need a seat higher than 23 1/2 inches. The Imperial stands on four height-adjustable legs with rubber tips and has no wheels, so if you need to roll the person to the bathroom, a commode with wheels like the Lumex Drop Arm Versamode Commode Chair with Wheels is the better match. For bathing as well as toileting, browse our shower commode chairs.

600 lb Weight Capacity, Evenly Distributed

Graham-Field rates the Imperial for a maximum of 600 lb (272.16 kg), evenly distributed. In practice that means the user should sit centered on the seat rather than dropping onto one edge or leaning their full weight on a single armrest. The welded steel frame and extra-wide base are what give it that rating and keep it steady.

Arms Drop Below Seat Level for Side Transfers

Each arm drops independently below seat level, so you can open the side you transfer from and keep the other arm up for support. To drop an arm, push its release lever inward. To raise it, lift it upright until the push button locks; Graham-Field says the arms lock automatically in the raised position. The release is easy to work, even for users who lack manual dexterity, and the armrests are cushioned.

One safety point from Lumex’s instructions: push straight down on the armrests when standing or sitting, and don’t lean on the front end of an arm, because that can make the arm drop unexpectedly.

23-Inch Seat and 25 Inches Between the Arms

The extra-wide platform seat measures 23 inches wide and 18 inches deep, with 25 inches between the arms. Lumex designed the seat to stay comfortable for long periods of sitting, which matters for users who need extra time on the commode.

Seat Height Adjusts From 19 1/2 to 23 1/2 Inches

The height adjusts from 19 1/2 inches (49.53 cm) to 23 1/2 inches (59.69 cm) in 1-inch (2.5 cm) increments. Each of the four legs has a push button that clicks into the height you choose; set all four to the same hole. The commode arrives at its lowest setting, so adjust it before the first use. Set it so the user’s feet rest flat on the floor with knees at about hip level, and high enough to clear the bowl when it’s used over a toilet.

3-in-1: Bedside Commode, Raised Toilet Seat or Safety Frame

The backbar is removable. With it on, the Imperial is a bedside commode with its own pail, cover and splash shield. With it off, the frame goes over a standard toilet and works as a raised toilet seat or a toilet safety frame with armrests to push up from. One purchase covers the bedroom at night and the bathroom during the day.

Imperial Drop Arm Commode vs. a Standard 3-in-1 Commode

A standard 3-in-1 steel commode, like the Graham-Field Silver Collection 3-in-1 Steel Commode, has fixed arms. It works well for people who can stand, turn and sit with a little help. The Imperial adds drop arms for sideways transfers, a 23-inch seat, 25 inches between the arms and a 600 lb rating. If the user is a larger person or can’t stand and pivot safely, the Imperial is the one to get. If they walk to the commode on their own, a standard model may be all you need.

Common Problem → Imperial Drop Arm Commode Solution

Problem: Dad is a big man, he’s weak on one side after a stroke, and getting him from the bed to a regular commode means standing him up and turning him. It takes two people, and everyone’s nervous every time.

Solution: Put the Imperial right next to the bed at the same height as the mattress, drop the arm on the bed side and slide him across. The arm locks back up once it’s raised, and the 23-inch seat with 25 inches between the arms gives him room. Graham-Field rates it to 600 lb.

“Can one caregiver handle this transfer?” Often, yes. A sideways slide is easier than a stand-and-pivot, but your therapist or nurse is the best judge of how many people a transfer needs.

Sizing & Fit

Measure before you order:

  • The user’s hips while seated. The seat is 23 inches wide with 25 inches between the arms.
  • Floor to the back of the knee while seated. The seat adjusts from 19 1/2 to 23 1/2 inches.
  • The space beside the bed or around the toilet. The commode is 31 inches wide overall.
  • The user’s weight. The maximum is 600 lb, evenly distributed.

For a sideways transfer from bed, set the seat as close to the mattress height as the range allows.

Care & Cleaning

Lumex’s instructions say to clean the commode with a mild soap and water solution, rinse it with clear water and dry it with a soft cloth, and to make sure it’s well rinsed before use. Never use organic solvents, abrasive cleaners or scouring pads on any part. Check the fit and tightness of all nuts, bolts and knobs weekly, and replace the rubber leg tips right away if they’re torn, cracked, worn or missing. Empty and rinse the pail after each use.

What’s Included

The commode comes with the frame (the seat platform is already attached), the back support, a commode pail, a cover and a splash shield. Setup is simple: take the parts out of the box, check the platform is secured on all sides, put on the back support and set the height. Replacement rubber tips (Lumex 9290) and replacement legs (6438AL) are available if you ever need them; just ask us.

Warranty

Graham-Field’s product page and spec sheet list a three (3) year limited warranty for the Imperial commode. The warranty statement printed in the current instructions covers the frame for five (5) years and tips, wheels/casters and handgrips for three (3) months. Call us at 585-505-6665 and we’ll confirm the terms that apply to your order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Lumex Imperial Collection drop arm commode?

It’s a bariatric 3-in-1 steel commode with drop arms, rated by Graham-Field for 600 lb. Both arms drop below the seat for sideways transfers, and it works as a bedside commode, a raised toilet seat or a toilet safety frame.

How much weight can this commode hold?

Graham-Field rates it for a maximum of 600 lb (272.16 kg), evenly distributed. The user should sit centered on the seat rather than putting their full weight on one edge or one armrest.

How do the drop arms work?

Each arm drops independently below seat level, and it locks automatically when you raise it again. Graham-Field notes that the release can be operated by patients lacking manual dexterity.

How wide is the seat?

The platform seat is 23 inches wide and 18 inches deep, with 25 inches between the arms. The commode is 31 inches wide overall.

How high does the seat go?

The seat height adjusts from 19 1/2 to 23 1/2 inches in 1-inch steps. For a transfer from bed, set it as close to the mattress height as that range allows.

Can I use it over the toilet?

Yes. Take off the backbar and the frame fits over the toilet as a raised toilet seat or a toilet safety frame. Put the backbar back on to use it as a bedside commode.

What comes in the box?

The commode frame with the seat platform already attached, the back support, a commode pail, a cover and a splash shield.

Does the Imperial have wheels?

No. It stands on four height-adjustable legs with rubber tips. If you need a commode you can roll to the bathroom, look at the Lumex Drop Arm Versamode Commode Chair with Wheels or one of our shower commode chairs.

Is this a good commode for a stroke patient?

It’s a common choice when the person can’t safely stand and pivot. Dropping the arm on the bed side lets them slide across instead, and the arm locks again once it’s raised. Your therapist can tell you which transfer method is right.

What warranty does it have?

Graham-Field lists a three (3) year limited warranty on the product page and spec sheet. The warranty statement in the instructions covers the frame for five years and tips for three months, so ask us and we’ll confirm the terms for your order.

How do I clean it?

Use a mild soap and water solution, rinse with clear water and dry with a soft cloth, as Lumex’s instructions say. Don’t use solvents, abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, and check the nuts, bolts and knobs weekly.

Does Medicare cover a bedside commode?

Medicare Part B may help pay for a commode as durable medical equipment when a doctor prescribes it for use at home, depending on your plan and the supplier. Check with your doctor and your plan to see what applies to you.

Shipping & Returns

Shipping & Return Policy

At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.

Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.

Shipping & Order Processing

We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.

Processing Time

Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.

Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.

Transit & Delivery Time

Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.

Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.

Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas

Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.

Freight & Oversized Equipment

Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.

30-Day Return Policy

We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.

Eligible products generally include:

  • Electric and power wheelchairs
  • Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
  • Mobility scooters
  • Walkers and rollators
  • Patient lifts
  • Wheelchair ramps
  • Hospital and homecare beds
  • Eligible medical mattresses
  • Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
  • Overbed tables
  • Bathroom benches and shower chairs
  • Other eligible medical and mobility equipment

Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.

Return Authorization

Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.

You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.

Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.

Condition of Returned Merchandise

To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:

  • In brand-new and unused condition
  • In its complete original manufacturer packaging
  • With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
  • Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
  • In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer

We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.

Restocking Fees

Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.

These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.

If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.

Return Shipping & Shipping Charges

The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.

Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.

Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.

Non-Returnable Products

For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.

We currently do not accept returns on:

  • Parts & accessories
  • Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
  • Patient lift slings
  • Custom or made-to-order products
  • Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page

If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.

Damaged or Incorrect Orders

We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.

If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.

Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.

If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.

Refused Deliveries

Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.

A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.

Return Shipping Deadline

Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.

This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.

Refund Processing

Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.

The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.

If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.

Custom & Made-to-Order Products

Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.

For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.

If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.

Questions Before Ordering?

Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.

Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.

For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
