Description
Merits Travel-Ease P101 Folding Power Wheelchair – 300 lb Compact Electric Wheelchair
The Merits Travel-Ease P101 folding power wheelchair combines the familiar profile and folding convenience of a manual-style wheelchair with the powered performance of a Group 2 electric wheelchair. Designed for adults who need dependable powered mobility without moving to a bulky captain-seat power chair, the Travel-Ease provides a 300 lb weight capacity, up to 18 miles of driving range, 4 mph maximum speed, rear-wheel drive, and a compact 23-inch turning radius.
What makes the Travel-Ease especially useful is the way its specifications balance mobility, storage, and everyday performance. The chair folds for improved storage and transportation, yet uses substantial 12.5-inch foam-filled drive wheels, offers approximately 4.5 inches of ground clearance, and is powered by dual 33Ah U1 AGM batteries. This makes it a very different type of travel chair from ultra-lightweight electric wheelchairs built primarily around minimum carrying weight.
For someone comparing a folding power wheelchair, compact electric wheelchair, or power wheelchair from Merits, the Travel-Ease is particularly worth considering when driving range, ground clearance, a traditional wheelchair-style seating platform, and foldable storage are more important than having the lightest possible chair. Its 18-inch standard seating configuration can also be configured with a 20-inch seat, allowing buyers to better match the chair to individual seating needs.
Why Choose the Merits Travel-Ease Folding Power Wheelchair?
Many buyers looking for a folding power wheelchair are trying to solve two needs at once: they want powered mobility for daily use, but they also want a chair that is easier to store or transport than a conventional full-size power wheelchair.
The Travel-Ease addresses that need with a foldable wheelchair-style frame combined with a rear-wheel-drive power system. It supports up to 300 lbs and provides up to approximately 18 miles of range per charge, giving it considerably more substance than a chair designed only for occasional short-distance transportation.
Its 23-inch turning radius, 4.5-inch ground clearance, 12.5-inch foam-filled drive wheels, and 10-degree gradient specification also make the Travel-Ease useful for buyers who want more than a minimal indoor travel chair.
Most importantly, the Travel-Ease should be chosen for what it actually does well. At approximately 150 lbs total with an 86 lb heaviest piece, it is not an ultra-lightweight power wheelchair. Its advantage is the combination of folding storage, substantial batteries, extended range, useful ground clearance, compact maneuverability, and traditional wheelchair-style seating.
A Folding Power Wheelchair with Full-Size Performance
The Travel-Ease is designed to fold for improved storage and transportation while retaining the performance characteristics expected from a more substantial powered wheelchair.
That distinction matters because folding does not necessarily mean lightweight. The Travel-Ease weighs approximately 150 lbs and has a heaviest individual component of approximately 86 lbs. Buyers who expect to manually lift a power chair into a vehicle should carefully consider these weights before ordering.
For the right user, however, folding provides another important benefit: reducing the chair’s storage footprint without requiring the entire powered mobility system to be designed around extremely low weight.
This can make the Travel-Ease particularly appealing when the chair needs to be stored between uses, transported using appropriate vehicle equipment, or accommodated in locations where a non-folding power chair would be less practical.
Is the Travel-Ease a Compact Electric Wheelchair?
The Travel-Ease combines a traditional wheelchair-style frame with compact maneuverability. Its overall width ranges from approximately 24 to 26 inches depending on seat configuration, while its turning radius is approximately 23 inches.
That tight turning radius can be valuable in many accessible homes, apartments, elevators, stores, medical offices, restaurants, and other indoor environments where turning space is limited.
At approximately 43 inches long, however, buyers should not interpret the term compact electric wheelchair to mean exceptionally short or ultra-light. The Travel-Ease is better understood as a foldable, maneuverable power wheelchair that retains substantial drive wheels, batteries, range, and ground clearance.
Before purchasing for indoor use, measure the narrowest doorways and passages the chair will need to navigate. Overall chair width should always be compared with the actual clear opening while allowing sufficient clearance for the rider’s hands, joystick, approach angle, and safe maneuvering.
Up to 18 Miles of Driving Range
One of the strongest specifications of the Travel-Ease is its up to 18-mile driving range per charge.
For someone who expects to use a power wheelchair throughout the day, range can be just as important as portability. The Travel-Ease uses two 33Ah U1 AGM batteries, providing the battery capacity needed to support its extended manufacturer-listed driving range.
This makes the chair relevant for more than simply moving from a vehicle into a destination. It can support many everyday mobility routines involving home use, appointments, shopping, community activities, and longer outings where a very short-range travel chair may be less practical.
Actual driving distance varies with rider weight, terrain, slopes, battery age and condition, temperature, driving speed, repeated stopping and starting, and other operating conditions. Users planning longer outings should maintain an appropriate battery reserve rather than assuming every trip will achieve the maximum listed range.
4 MPH Rear-Wheel-Drive Performance
The Travel-Ease uses a rear-wheel-drive system powered by a DC 24V / 180W motor and controlled by a PG VSI 50 controller. Maximum speed is approximately 4 mph.
Rear-wheel drive gives the Travel-Ease the traditional powered-wheelchair configuration buyers may prefer when looking for a straightforward everyday mobility chair rather than a mobility scooter or highly specialized power base.
Its performance specifications are especially meaningful when considered together: up to 4 mph speed, up to 18 miles of range, 4.5 inches of ground clearance, a 10-degree gradient specification, and 12.5-inch drive wheels.
That combination helps explain where the Travel-Ease fits within the power wheelchair market: it emphasizes practical everyday mobility and useful outdoor capability while retaining a foldable wheelchair-style design.
12.5-Inch Foam-Filled Drive Wheels
The Travel-Ease uses substantial 12.5-inch foam-filled rear drive wheels, paired with 8-inch foam-filled front wheels and rear anti-tip wheels.
Larger drive wheels can be particularly important for buyers who expect their power wheelchair to transition between common indoor and outdoor surfaces. The foam-filled construction also eliminates the routine air-pressure maintenance associated with pneumatic tires.
This wheel configuration is one of the characteristics that separates the Travel-Ease from very small travel-focused electric wheelchairs with compact wheels and minimal ground clearance.
It should still not be treated as an unrestricted all-terrain wheelchair. Surface conditions, obstacles, slopes, traction, ground clearance, and the chair’s operating limits should always be considered before proceeding.
4.5-Inch Ground Clearance for Everyday Obstacles
Ground clearance is easy to overlook when comparing electric wheelchairs, but it can make a significant difference when transitioning between surfaces or encountering smaller obstacles.
The Travel-Ease provides approximately 4.5 inches of ground clearance. Combined with its 12.5-inch drive wheels, this gives the chair more clearance underneath its frame than many compact travel-oriented power chairs.
For someone comparing a compact electric wheelchair for both indoor and appropriate outdoor use, ground clearance should be evaluated alongside turning radius, wheel size, overall width, and drivetrain—not just speed and battery range.
Ground clearance does not mean every obstacle is safe to cross. Users should still avoid obstacles, terrain, slopes, and surfaces outside the chair’s intended operating capabilities.
23-Inch Turning Radius for Indoor Maneuverability
Despite its substantial battery system and large rear drive wheels, the Travel-Ease maintains a tight 23-inch turning radius.
This is particularly relevant for buyers who expect to maneuver around furniture, navigate accessible hallways, enter elevators, reposition in rooms, or make tighter turns in community environments.
The chair’s actual overall width depends on seating configuration, ranging from approximately 24 inches with an 18-inch seat to 26 inches with a 20-inch seat configuration.
Turning radius and overall width should therefore be evaluated together when determining whether the Travel-Ease will work in a particular home or other indoor environment.
300 lb Weight Capacity
The Merits Travel-Ease supports a maximum rider weight of 300 lbs.
This allows the chair to provide a standard adult power-wheelchair capacity while retaining its folding frame and relatively compact maneuvering characteristics.
Weight capacity is only one part of proper wheelchair selection. Buyers should also consider seat width, seat depth, backrest height, seat-to-floor height, overall chair dimensions, positioning requirements, and the user’s individual mobility needs.
For users who need capacity beyond 300 lbs, the standard Travel-Ease should not be selected simply because its other specifications are attractive. A higher-capacity model should be considered instead.
18-Inch or 20-Inch Sling Seat Options
The Travel-Ease uses a traditional sling-style wheelchair seat rather than the captain-style seating commonly found on larger power chairs.
Seat width is available in approximately 18-inch and 20-inch configurations, with a 16-inch seat depth. Backrest height ranges from approximately 15 to 19 inches, and seat-to-floor height is approximately 20 inches.
This traditional wheelchair-style seating arrangement contributes to the Travel-Ease’s familiar profile and folding design. It can also be appealing to users who prefer a power wheelchair that looks and functions more like a conventional wheelchair than a scooter or large captain-seat power chair.
Seat width should be selected based on the intended rider rather than simply choosing the widest option. Proper fit affects positioning, comfort, maneuverability, and the chair’s overall width.
18-Inch vs. 20-Inch Travel-Ease: What Changes?
The Travel-Ease can be configured with either an 18-inch or 20-inch seat width. This choice affects both rider space and the overall width of the wheelchair.
The chair’s listed overall width ranges from approximately 24 to 26 inches, corresponding to its seating configuration. Buyers who need to navigate narrower doorways should pay particular attention to this difference.
The narrower configuration may provide additional clearance in tighter indoor environments, while the wider seat may be appropriate for a rider who requires additional seating width.
When deciding between the two, consider the rider’s actual body dimensions and seating requirements along with the narrowest spaces the wheelchair must navigate.
Foldable for Storage and Transportation
The Travel-Ease’s folding frame is one of its defining features. Folding allows the chair to occupy less space for storage and can make transportation more practical than with a rigid, non-folding power wheelchair.
However, buyers searching for the best electric wheelchair for travel should look beyond the word “folding.” The Travel-Ease weighs approximately 150 lbs total, and its heaviest individual piece weighs approximately 86 lbs.
That means this chair is better suited to a buyer who values a foldable frame plus substantial power-chair performance than someone whose number-one requirement is lifting an extremely lightweight electric wheelchair into a vehicle by hand.
Depending on the user, caregiver, and vehicle, appropriate assistance, a wheelchair lift, ramp, or other loading solution may still be necessary.
Is the Travel-Ease the Best Electric Wheelchair for Travel?
There is no single best electric wheelchair for travel for every user because “travel” can mean very different things. Some buyers need the lowest possible lifting weight. Others need a folding chair with longer range, larger wheels, greater ground clearance, or more substantial everyday performance.
The Travel-Ease is particularly compelling for the second type of buyer. Its strengths include a foldable frame, up to 18-mile range, 12.5-inch drive wheels, 4.5-inch ground clearance, 300 lb capacity, and 23-inch turning radius.
A substantially lighter electric wheelchair may be preferable when frequent manual lifting into a vehicle is the highest priority. The Travel-Ease may be the stronger match when the user wants a folding design without giving up the larger batteries, useful range, wheel size, and clearance associated with a more substantial power chair.
The right travel wheelchair should therefore be selected around the user’s actual transportation method—not simply whether the product can fold.
Travel-Ease vs. Lightweight Portable Electric Wheelchairs
A lightweight portable electric wheelchair and the Merits Travel-Ease can both be designed for easier transportation, but they solve the problem differently.
Very lightweight chairs generally prioritize minimum product weight and compact handling. The Travel-Ease prioritizes a folding wheelchair frame combined with longer-range Group 2 power-chair performance.
At 150 lbs, the Travel-Ease is significantly heavier than many lightweight travel chairs. In return, it provides dual 33Ah AGM batteries, up to 18 miles of range, a 180W motor, 12.5-inch drive wheels, 4.5 inches of ground clearance, and a 300 lb capacity.
For buyers comparing these categories, the key question is not simply “Which chair weighs less?” It is “Which combination of transportability, range, seating, wheel size, clearance, and everyday performance best matches how I will actually use the wheelchair?”
Dual 33Ah AGM Batteries and 5A Off-Board Charger
The Travel-Ease is powered by two 33Ah U1 AGM batteries and uses a 5A off-board charger.
The larger battery configuration supports the chair’s manufacturer-listed range of up to approximately 18 miles per charge and is an important reason the Travel-Ease provides more extended driving capability than many compact travel-oriented chairs.
Battery size also contributes to overall chair weight, which is why buyers should consider range and transport weight together. A larger battery system can provide greater operating range while making the complete mobility device heavier to transport.
For airline, cruise, rail, or other commercial transportation, users should confirm the carrier’s current requirements for powered wheelchairs and batteries before traveling.
Standard, Optional, and Accessory Configurations
The Travel-Ease can be configured beyond its standard setup to better accommodate different users and everyday routines.
Available options include height-adjustable armrests with swing-away footrests and elevating leg rests (E0990). Available accessories include a USB charger, oxygen tank holder, swing-away joystick, cup holder, side bag, and other compatible items.
These components should not be confused with the standard chair configuration. The appropriate seating and accessory setup depends on the individual user’s positioning, transfer, storage, and everyday mobility requirements.
For help selecting available options or accessories for your Travel-Ease, call 585-505-6665 or chat with a live agent before ordering.
Who Is the Merits Travel-Ease Best For?
The Travel-Ease is particularly well suited to an adult who wants the maneuverability and familiar design of a wheelchair-style mobility device but needs powered propulsion for everyday mobility.
It is especially relevant for users who value folding storage, up to 18 miles of range, larger 12.5-inch drive wheels, 4.5-inch ground clearance, a tight 23-inch turning radius, and a 300 lb capacity.
It may also appeal to someone who prefers a sling-seat wheelchair design over a larger captain-seat power chair or mobility scooter.
A different electric wheelchair may be more appropriate for someone whose highest priority is ultra-low lifting weight, one-piece lightweight vehicle loading, a capacity above 300 lbs, highly specialized seating or positioning, or aggressive all-terrain use.
What Should You Compare Before Buying a Folding Power Wheelchair?
When comparing a folding power wheelchair, the most useful specifications extend far beyond whether the frame folds. Buyers should compare total weight, heaviest-piece weight, folded storage requirements, seat dimensions, overall width, turning radius, rider capacity, range, battery size, drive-wheel size, ground clearance, maximum gradient, drivetrain, and transportation method.
For the Merits Travel-Ease, the major numbers are clear: 300 lb capacity, approximately 150 lb total weight, 86 lb heaviest piece, 18-inch or 20-inch seat width, 23-inch turning radius, 4.5-inch ground clearance, 4 mph maximum speed, and up to 18 miles of range.
Those specifications help answer the questions that matter before purchasing: Will the seat fit the rider? Will the chair fit through the required spaces? Is the range sufficient? Can it handle the surfaces where it will be used? How will it be transported? And can the person responsible for loading it safely manage the chair’s weight?

Shipping & Returns
Shipping & Return Policy
At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.
Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.
Shipping & Order Processing
We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.
Processing Time
Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.
Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.
Transit & Delivery Time
Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.
Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.
Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas
Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.
Freight & Oversized Equipment
Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.
30-Day Return Policy
We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.
Eligible products generally include:
- Electric and power wheelchairs
- Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
- Mobility scooters
- Walkers and rollators
- Patient lifts
- Wheelchair ramps
- Hospital and homecare beds
- Eligible medical mattresses
- Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
- Overbed tables
- Bathroom benches and shower chairs
- Other eligible medical and mobility equipment
Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.
Return Authorization
Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.
You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.
Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.
Condition of Returned Merchandise
To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:
- In brand-new and unused condition
- In its complete original manufacturer packaging
- With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
- Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
- In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer
We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.
Restocking Fees
Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.
These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.
If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.
Return Shipping & Shipping Charges
The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.
Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.
Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.
Non-Returnable Products
For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.
We currently do not accept returns on:
- Parts & accessories
- Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
- Patient lift slings
- Custom or made-to-order products
- Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page
If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.
Damaged or Incorrect Orders
We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.
If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.
Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.
If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.
Refused Deliveries
Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.
A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.
Return Shipping Deadline
Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.
This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.
Refund Processing
Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.
The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.
If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.
Custom & Made-to-Order Products
Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.
For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.
If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.
Questions Before Ordering?
Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.
Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.
For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
