Description
Shoprider Jimmie Portable Power Wheelchair – Lightweight, Take-Apart & Travel-Friendly
The Shoprider Jimmie Portable Power Wheelchair combines powered mobility with a practical take-apart design for users who need an electric wheelchair that is easier to transport away from home. Instead of requiring the entire power chair to be handled as one heavy unit, the Jimmie uses Shoprider’s wireless quick-disconnect technology to separate into three primary components. The heaviest piece weighs only approximately 35.8 lbs, making this chair especially compelling for users and caregivers who regularly transport a power wheelchair by vehicle.
Unlike many ultra-compact travel chairs that prioritize portability at the expense of seating and configuration flexibility, the Jimmie delivers a more traditional Shoprider power wheelchair experience in a transport-friendly package. The current standard configuration supports users up to 250 lbs and includes an 18″W × 17.5″D black captain-style seat without headrest, padded adjustable armrests, an adjustable seat-mounted foot platform, solid flat-free wheels, adjustable seat height, dual 12V 12Ah batteries, and a 2A off-board charger.
For shoppers searching for a portable electric wheelchair that can come apart for car travel, errands, appointments, family visits, or everyday mobility, the Jimmie offers an important middle ground between a basic folding travel chair and a much heavier full-size power wheelchair. Its compact dimensions, three-piece disassembly, adjustable seating position, configurable joystick location, and available seating and leg-support upgrades allow the chair to be matched more closely to the individual rider.
Why the Shoprider Jimmie Portable Power Wheelchair Stands Out
The defining advantage of the Jimmie is its ability to provide powered wheelchair mobility without permanently tying the user to a 100+ lb assembled chair. The complete chair weighs approximately 104 lbs in the current manufacturer specifications, but its take-apart design allows that weight to be divided into separate components for transportation.
The 35.8 lb heaviest piece is particularly important. When comparing portable power wheelchairs, total chair weight does not always tell the complete story. For a take-apart chair, the weight of the heaviest component can matter much more when determining whether a user or caregiver can realistically load the chair into a compatible vehicle.
The Jimmie also offers customization that is uncommon among simpler travel chairs. Shoprider provides alternative captain’s seating, pan seating, footrests, elevating leg rests, residual-limb support, and multiple joystick-mount configurations, allowing the Jimmie to address a wider range of seating and positioning needs.
- ✔️ Three-piece take-apart power wheelchair
- ✔️ 35.8 lb heaviest component
- ✔️ 250 lb maximum weight capacity
- ✔️ Captain-style seating standard
- ✔️ Configurable left/right joystick control
- ✔️ Multiple seating upgrades available
Three-Piece Disassembly for Easier Vehicle Transport
The Shoprider Jimmie is designed to disassemble into three primary components, helping solve one of the biggest challenges associated with conventional power wheelchairs: transportation.
A traditional power wheelchair may be too heavy to lift into a vehicle without a power-chair lift, ramp, or specially equipped vehicle. With the Jimmie, the chair can be separated so its components can be handled individually. The heaviest section weighs approximately 35.8 lbs.
This makes the Jimmie particularly relevant for someone asking questions such as “What power wheelchair comes apart for transport?”, “What electric wheelchair can I put in a car?”, or “What portable power chair has lightweight pieces?” The Jimmie’s take-apart system was specifically designed around these real-world transportation needs.
Vehicle cargo dimensions and individual lifting ability vary. Always measure the available cargo area and make sure the person handling the chair can safely manage the individual components before ordering.
Wireless Quick-Disconnect Take-Apart Technology
Shoprider equips the Jimmie with wireless quick-disconnect take-apart technology. This design reduces the need to deal with complicated wiring connections when separating the chair into its transportable components.
The system is intended to make disassembly and reassembly more practical for users who routinely take their power wheelchair away from home. Rather than treating portability as an occasional feature, the Jimmie’s chassis and electronics were developed around repeatable take-apart transportation.
For users comparing a conventional power chair with a portable power wheelchair, this is one of the Jimmie’s most meaningful differences.
Only 35.8 lbs for the Heaviest Piece
The current Shoprider specifications list the Jimmie’s heaviest individual component at approximately 35.8 lbs. This is considerably more useful for transportation planning than looking only at the assembled chair weight.
When disassembled, a suitable user or caregiver can handle the individual sections separately instead of attempting to lift the entire approximately 104 lb power wheelchair at once.
Individual lifting ability varies, and a 35.8 lb component may still be too heavy for some people. The Jimmie should therefore be selected based on the actual person who will be loading and unloading the chair rather than assuming that “portable” automatically means everyone can lift it.
Compact Portable Electric Wheelchair Design
The current Jimmie measures approximately 22.8 inches wide × 33.5 inches long, giving it a relatively compact footprint for a powered wheelchair with substantial seating and customization options.
The compact chassis is useful not only during transportation but also when maneuvering through appropriate indoor spaces. Its smaller footprint can make the Jimmie easier to store at home and easier to position within a compatible vehicle cargo area than many full-size power wheelchairs.
Always measure important doorways, hallways, elevators, ramps, vehicle openings, and storage areas before ordering a mobility device.
250 lb Maximum Weight Capacity
The Shoprider Jimmie supports users weighing up to 250 lbs. This gives the chair a practical adult weight capacity while preserving the lightweight component design required for its take-apart portability.
Weight capacity is only one part of proper wheelchair selection. Seat dimensions, user measurements, transfer requirements, posture, leg positioning, joystick access, and intended operating environment should also be considered before selecting a power wheelchair.
Standard 18″ × 17.5″ Captain-Style Seat
The current Shoprider Jimmie configuration comes standard with an 18″W × 17.5″D black captain-style seat without a headrest. This gives the Jimmie a more substantial seating platform than many minimalist portable electric wheelchairs.
The chair also includes padded adjustable armrests and adjustable seat height, helping the user establish a more appropriate operating and transfer position.
One of the Jimmie’s strongest advantages is that users are not limited to only the standard seating configuration. Shoprider provides multiple alternative seating options for riders who require different seat dimensions or seating styles.
Optional Captain’s Seats, Pillow-Top & Pan Seating
Users requiring a different seat configuration can select from several factory-listed seating upgrades. Current options include 18″ × 17.5″ captain’s seats, 19″ × 18″ captain’s seats, a 20″ × 18″ pillow-top captain’s seat, 21″ × 21″ captain’s seating, and multiple pan-seat configurations, with availability depending on the selected configuration.
Available pan-seat sizes include configurations such as 16″ × 16″, 18″ × 18″, 18″ × 20″, and 20″ × 20″. Optional seating is available at an additional charge and should be selected according to the rider’s actual measurements and positioning requirements.
Need a different seat size or seating configuration? Call MedCare Mobility at 585-505-6665 or chat with a live agent before ordering. We can help confirm currently available Shoprider seating configurations, compatibility, and upgrade pricing.
Standard Adjustable Seat-Mounted Foot Platform
The standard Jimmie includes a seat-mounted foot platform with approximately 11.5″–18.5″ of adjustment. This allows the standard foot-support position to be adjusted according to the rider’s leg length and seating configuration.
For users who need a different type of lower-extremity support, Shoprider offers alternative front-rigging configurations as optional upgrades.
Optional Footrests & Elevating Leg Rests
Optional front-rigging choices include swing-away footrests and swing-away elevating leg rests. Shoprider also lists a residual-limb support that can be configured for the left or right side when appropriate.
These are optional upgrades and are not included with the standard Jimmie configuration. The standard chair comes with the adjustable seat-mounted foot platform.
For assistance determining which front-rigging option is appropriate, call MedCare Mobility at 585-505-6665 or speak with a live agent before ordering.
Left- or Right-Side Joystick Configuration
The Jimmie’s standard configuration includes a fixed inline joystick mount that can be installed for either left- or right-side operation. This allows the chair to be configured according to the user’s preferred driving hand.
The joystick provides intuitive proportional directional control along with access to speed adjustment, battery-status information, and the horn. Releasing the joystick returns it toward neutral and allows the power chair’s braking system to bring the chair to a controlled stop.
Ordering Note: When placing your order, please enter your preferred joystick mount — LEFT or RIGHT — in the Order Notes at checkout. If no preference is entered, MedCare Mobility may contact you before the chair is processed.
Optional Swing-Away & Adjustable Joystick Mounts
For users requiring more specialized controller positioning, Shoprider offers several optional joystick-mount upgrades. Available configurations include swing-away joystick mounts, pin-style length-adjustable mounts, and magnetic length-adjustable mounts, with left- and right-side configurations available.
A swing-away joystick mount can be especially useful when the controller needs to move away from the front of the armrest for closer table access or certain transfers. Adjustable mounts can provide additional flexibility in positioning the controller relative to the user’s hand.
These configurations are optional and may add to the final price. Contact MedCare Mobility for assistance before ordering an upgraded joystick mount.
Up to 7–8 Miles of Driving Range
The current Shoprider specifications list a driving range of approximately up to 7–8 miles, depending on battery configuration and operating conditions.
The standard current Jimmie configuration includes two 12V 12Ah batteries. Shoprider’s technical information also identifies a 14Ah battery configuration, but this should not be confused with the standard included battery setup.
Actual driving range can vary significantly according to battery condition, rider weight, terrain, slopes, temperature, driving habits, charging practices, installed equipment, and overall chair maintenance.
3.1 MPH Maximum Speed
The current Shoprider Jimmie has a listed maximum speed of approximately 3.1 mph. This controlled speed is appropriate for a compact power wheelchair designed around everyday mobility, maneuverability, and portability rather than high-speed outdoor travel.
The joystick’s proportional control allows the rider to control both direction and movement, while selectable speed settings allow the maximum response to be adjusted for different operating environments.
Solid Flat-Free Wheels
The Jimmie uses 6-inch solid front wheels and 9-inch solid drive wheels. Solid tires eliminate routine air-pressure maintenance and reduce concern about pneumatic punctures during everyday operation.
This low-maintenance tire configuration is particularly useful for a portable chair because users may frequently operate it away from home, where dealing with a flat pneumatic tire would be especially inconvenient.
2-Inch Ground Clearance
The current Jimmie provides approximately 2 inches of ground clearance. Its compact wheel and chassis configuration is designed primarily for appropriate maintained indoor and outdoor surfaces rather than demanding off-road terrain.
Users should take additional care around high thresholds, curbs, deep gaps, uneven terrain, loose surfaces, and other obstacles that approach or exceed the available ground clearance.
Limited Suspension for Everyday Mobility
Shoprider lists the current Jimmie with limited suspension. The chair’s primary engineering priorities are compact powered mobility and transportability rather than the extensive suspension travel found on much larger full-size power wheelchairs.
Users who routinely travel over rough terrain or require a more substantial suspension system may be better served by a larger power wheelchair designed specifically for those environments.
2-Amp Off-Board Battery Charger
A 2A off-board charger is included with the standard Shoprider Jimmie. Proper charging practices are important for dependable performance and battery longevity.
The standard current configuration includes two 12V 12Ah batteries. Users should follow Shoprider’s charging and battery-maintenance instructions and use compatible charging equipment.
Optional Accessories for the Shoprider Jimmie
The Jimmie can be configured with several factory-listed accessories for users who need additional storage or mobility-equipment support. Available options include a metal oxygen tank holder, mesh oxygen tank holder, walker holder, cup holder, small rear basket, cane holder, and unoccupied transit tie-down kit.
Accessories are optional unless specifically listed as included with your selected configuration and may add to the final purchase price. Accessory compatibility can also depend on the chair’s seating, rigging, or other installed equipment.
For seating upgrades, elevating leg rests, footrests, joystick mounts, oxygen holders, storage accessories, or other Jimmie configurations, call MedCare Mobility at 585-505-6665 or chat with a live agent. We can help confirm current availability, compatibility, and pricing before your chair is ordered.

Shipping & Returns
Shipping & Return Policy
At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.
Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.
Shipping & Order Processing
We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.
Processing Time
Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.
Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.
Transit & Delivery Time
Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.
Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.
Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas
Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.
Freight & Oversized Equipment
Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.
30-Day Return Policy
We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.
Eligible products generally include:
- Electric and power wheelchairs
- Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
- Mobility scooters
- Walkers and rollators
- Patient lifts
- Wheelchair ramps
- Hospital and homecare beds
- Eligible medical mattresses
- Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
- Overbed tables
- Bathroom benches and shower chairs
- Other eligible medical and mobility equipment
Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.
Return Authorization
Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.
You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.
Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.
Condition of Returned Merchandise
To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:
- In brand-new and unused condition
- In its complete original manufacturer packaging
- With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
- Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
- In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer
We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.
Restocking Fees
Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.
These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.
If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.
Return Shipping & Shipping Charges
The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.
Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.
Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.
Non-Returnable Products
For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.
We currently do not accept returns on:
- Parts & accessories
- Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
- Patient lift slings
- Custom or made-to-order products
- Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page
If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.
Damaged or Incorrect Orders
We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.
If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.
Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.
If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.
Refused Deliveries
Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.
A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.
Return Shipping Deadline
Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.
This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.
Refund Processing
Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.
The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.
If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.
Custom & Made-to-Order Products
Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.
For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.
If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.
Questions Before Ordering?
Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.
Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.
For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
