Description

Lumex PVC Knock-Down Shower Commode Chair – Tool-Free Knock Down Shower Commode Chair in 18″ and 22″ Widths

The Lumex PVC Knock-Down Shower Commode Chair is a rolling shower commode chair that comes apart and goes back together by hand. It’s a knock down shower commode chair: the PVC pipes are held by clamp joint brackets made of high-grade impact plastic and stainless steel, and Graham-Field says no tools are required. Take it apart to move it, store it or bring it along, then rebuild it where it’s needed.

It comes in two widths. The 18″ model is the 18 inch PVC shower commode chair most homes need, rated for 300 lb. The 22″ model gives more room between the arms and is rated for 375 lb. Both have a 20″ seat height and an elongated, contoured open-front seat.

Like the other Lumex PVC chairs, it’s made of health care grade PVC, with a quick-drying removable mesh back, curved arms with anti-slip handgrips and threaded stem casters set into dual-reinforced fittings. If you’re shopping for a PVC shower commode chair 18 inch that doesn’t have to stay in one bathroom, this is the one built for it.

Why Choose the Lumex Knock-Down Shower Commode Chair?

A standard PVC shower chair is glued or screwed into one shape for life. That’s fine until you need to move it: to a parent’s home for a visit, to a second bathroom, into a car or into a closet when it’s not in use. The knock-down chair solves that with Lumex’s clamp joint bracket system. Graham-Field describes it as no tools required, no sharp edges and extensively tested, and says it secures the pipe and fittings 100%.

You still get a full-size shower commode chair once it’s built: open-front seat, mesh back, curved arms with grips and casters. We’re an authorized dealer and provider with fast nationwide shipping, delivered to your door. Questions about which width to choose? Call 585-505-6665.

Who Is the Knock-Down Shower Commode Chair Best For?

It suits:

  • Families who take a shower chair between two homes or bring it on longer visits
  • Caregivers who need to store the chair when it isn’t in use
  • Users up to 300 lb (18″) or 375 lb (22″) who need to be rolled into the shower seated
  • People who need an open-front seat for washing and hygiene care
  • Anyone who’d rather assemble a chair by hand than with tools

For help comparing shower chairs, benches and commode chairs, see our guide to choosing the best shower commode chair for elderly users.

Who May Need a Different Shower Commode Chair?

If the chair will live in one bathroom and never move, a fixed PVC chair works just as well, and the Lumex 22″ PVC shower commode chair adds a sliding footrest. If the user weighs more than 375 lb or needs more than 22″ between the arms, look at the Lumex 26″ bariatric PVC shower commode chair (425 lb). Graham-Field doesn’t list a footrest for the knock-down chair, so if the user can’t hold their feet up while being rolled, ask us first.

Choosing Your Options

There’s one dropdown: Seat Width. Both chairs are 40 1/2″ tall with a 20″ seat height, an 18″ deep seat and 17.6″ of clearance under the seat. Width and weight rating are what change.

Seat Width Graham-Field code Weight capacity Between the arms Overall width x depth
18″ 89100-KD 300 lb 18″ 22 1/2″ x 25 1/4″
22″ 89200-KD 375 lb 22″ 26 1/2″ x 27″

How to choose: have the user sit and measure across the widest part of the hips. The 18″ chair fits most average-size adults; if the measurement is close to 18″, or the user weighs more than 300 lb, pick the 22″. Before you order the 22″, check that your bathroom door and shower opening are wider than 26 1/2″. Not sure? Call us at 585-505-6665 and we’ll help.

Tool-Free Clamp Joint Brackets

This is what makes the chair different. Instead of fixed glued fittings, the PVC pipes lock into clamp joint brackets made of high-grade impact plastic and stainless steel. Graham-Field lists the system as easy to assemble and break down for convenient transport, with no tools required and no sharp edges, and notes a patent pending on the bracket. Make sure every clamp is fully closed before anyone sits in the chair.

Open-Front Seat, 20″ Seat Height

The seat is deluxe, elongated, extra heavy-duty and contoured with an open front, so a caregiver can help with washing and personal care while the user stays seated. It sits 20″ from the floor with 17.6″ of clearance beneath the seat. If you plan to roll the chair over a toilet, measure your toilet’s height and compare it with that clearance, or ask us.

Arms, Back and Casters

The curved arms have no sharp edges and anti-slip handgrips to hold while sitting down or shifting. The mesh back is removable and dries quickly between showers. The chair rolls on threaded stem casters set into fittings with dual reinforcement, which Graham-Field lists as an added safety feature. GF doesn’t print the caster size or which casters lock, so ask us if that matters for your bathroom.

Knock-Down Chair vs. Lumex 22″ PVC Shower Commode Chair

The Lumex 22″ PVC shower commode chair is a fixed-frame chair with a sliding footrest, a 21″ seat height, 3″ heavy-duty casters and a 375 lb rating. The 22″ knock-down chair has the same 375 lb rating and 22″ between the arms, a slightly lower 20″ seat, and a frame you can take apart without tools, but no footrest listed. Pick the fixed chair for everyday use in one home with a footrest; pick the knock-down chair when it has to travel or be stored.

Common Problem → Knock-Down Shower Commode Chair Solution

Problem: Grandma spends winters with her daughter and summers at home. Her shower chair is too big to fit in the car, so every move means buying or borrowing another one.

Solution: The 18″ knock-down chair comes apart by hand at the clamp joints. It rides in the trunk, goes back together in a few minutes at the other house, and she has the same chair she’s used to in both places.

“Is it as solid as a regular PVC chair once it’s built?” Graham-Field says the clamp brackets secure the pipe and fittings 100% and that the system is extensively tested, and the 18″ model is rated for 300 lb.

Sizing & Fit

  • Weight: 300 lb (18″) or 375 lb (22″), evenly distributed.
  • Between the arms: 18″ or 22″, same as the seat width.
  • Seat: 18″ deep, 20″ from the floor, 17.6″ clearance underneath.
  • Doorways: 22 1/2″ overall width for the 18″ chair, 26 1/2″ for the 22″ chair.
  • Depth and height: 25 1/4″ (18″) or 27″ (22″) deep; 40 1/2″ tall.

Colors

Graham-Field makes this chair in three colors, Royal Blue, Forest Green and Mauve, in anti-bacterial mesh or anti-bacterial solid vinyl. Tell us when you order which color you’d like and we’ll confirm it with you, since some colors may be made to order.

Care & Cleaning

Wipe the PVC frame with a non-abrasive cleanser and don’t use solvents. Rinse the mesh back and let it air dry. Keep the casters clear of hair and mop threads and keep them moving freely. Each time you rebuild the chair, check every clamp joint before use. Don’t use the chair if a caster is rusted and won’t turn easily or if a fitting or bracket is cracked.

Knock-Down Shower Commode Chair Warranty

Graham-Field lists a one (1) year limited warranty on the PVC frame and a six (6) month limited warranty on all other materials. Call us at 585-505-6665 for the full terms.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a knock-down shower commode chair?

It’s a rolling shower commode chair whose frame comes apart and goes back together by hand. On this Lumex chair the PVC pipes lock into clamp joint brackets, and Graham-Field says no tools are required.

Do I need tools to put it together?

No. Graham-Field lists the clamp joint bracket system as tool-free. Check that every clamp is fully closed before the user sits down.

What sizes does it come in?

Two seat widths: 18″ (Graham-Field code 89100-KD) and 22″ (89200-KD). The seat width is also the width between the arms.

How much weight does it hold?

The 18″ chair is rated for 300 lb and the 22″ chair for 375 lb, evenly distributed.

Which width should I choose?

Measure the user’s hips while seated. Most average-size adults fit the 18″; choose the 22″ if the hips are close to 18″ or the user weighs more than 300 lb.

What is the seat height?

Both widths have a 20″ seat height and an 18″ deep seat, with 17.6″ of clearance under the seat.

Will it fit through my bathroom door?

The 18″ chair is 22 1/2″ wide overall and the 22″ chair is 26 1/2″ wide. Your doorway and shower opening need to be wider than that.

Can it go over a toilet?

Graham-Field calls it a shower commode chair and lists 17.6″ of clearance under the seat, but it doesn’t publish a toilet height it fits over. Measure your toilet and call us so we can check it with you.

Does it have a footrest?

Graham-Field doesn’t list a footrest for the knock-down chair. If the user needs one, ask us about the Lumex 22″ PVC chair with a sliding footrest.

Does it come with a commode pail?

Graham-Field doesn’t list a pail for this chair. Ask us and we’ll confirm what’s in the box.

How do I clean it?

Wipe the PVC frame with a non-abrasive cleanser, never solvents, and let the mesh back air dry. Keep the casters free of hair and threads, and recheck the clamps whenever you reassemble it.

What warranty does it have?

Graham-Field gives a one-year limited warranty on the PVC frame and six months on all other materials.

Shipping & Returns

Shipping & Return Policy

At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.

Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.

Shipping & Order Processing

We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.

Processing Time

Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.

Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.

Transit & Delivery Time

Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.

Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.

Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas

Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.

Freight & Oversized Equipment

Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.

30-Day Return Policy

We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.

Eligible products generally include:

  • Electric and power wheelchairs
  • Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
  • Mobility scooters
  • Walkers and rollators
  • Patient lifts
  • Wheelchair ramps
  • Hospital and homecare beds
  • Eligible medical mattresses
  • Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
  • Overbed tables
  • Bathroom benches and shower chairs
  • Other eligible medical and mobility equipment

Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.

Return Authorization

Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.

You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.

Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.

Condition of Returned Merchandise

To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:

  • In brand-new and unused condition
  • In its complete original manufacturer packaging
  • With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
  • Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
  • In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer

We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.

Restocking Fees

Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.

These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.

If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.

Return Shipping & Shipping Charges

The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.

Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.

Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.

Non-Returnable Products

For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.

We currently do not accept returns on:

  • Parts & accessories
  • Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
  • Patient lift slings
  • Custom or made-to-order products
  • Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page

If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.

Damaged or Incorrect Orders

We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.

If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.

Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.

If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.

Refused Deliveries

Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.

A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.

Return Shipping Deadline

Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.

This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.

Refund Processing

Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.

The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.

If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.

Custom & Made-to-Order Products

Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.

For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.

If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.

Questions Before Ordering?

Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.

Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.

For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
