Description

Joerns Hoyer 400-3005 Linak Control Box With Built-In Charger for the HPL402 Power Lift

This is the Joerns patient lift control box for the Hoyer HPL402: genuine Joerns part 400-3005, listed in the HPL402 parts manual as “CONTROLLER BX LINAK HM CHARGR,” the Linak control box with the charger built in. It’s the brain of the HPL402’s power unit: the hand control plugs into it, the actuator plugs into it, the battery pack clips onto it, and the charging cord connects to it. It is a replacement part, not a lift.

Joerns describes the HPL402 power unit’s features this way: a 2 x 12 V rechargeable sealed battery, 120 V AC charger input, 24 V DC charger output, single-speed operation, emergency down, emergency mechanical down, soft stop, emergency stop, an LCD display for battery capacity, and an acoustic battery alarm at about 50% capacity. Joerns’ troubleshooting table for the power unit ends several rows with “replace the control box” or “send control box for repair,” and this hoyer lift control box is the Joerns part for the first of those.

Joerns lists the 24 V battery (400-3003) as a separate part, so order the battery too if yours is also worn. Call us at 585-505-6665 with your Hoyer HPL402‘s serial number and we’ll confirm the box and anything else you need.

Why Choose the Genuine Joerns 400-3005 Control Box?

Joerns warns that “by unauthorized opening of the system, there is a risk that it may malfunction at a later date,” so a control box that’s failed isn’t something to repair at home. Its troubleshooting table names the control box as the cause when the power indicator lights but the actuator won’t run, when relays click but nothing moves, or when only one direction works. A genuine replacement puts the HPL402 back exactly as Joerns built it. For the battery that clips onto it, see the Hoyer 0Y0067 Lift Battery or the Hoyer Battery Kit for Linak.

Who Is This Control Box Best For?

  • Owners of a Joerns Hoyer HPL402 whose control box has been diagnosed as faulty
  • Facility maintenance staff keeping a Hoyer Classic lift in service without replacing the whole lift
  • Anyone whose HPL402 control box was damaged by water or a fall

Still choosing a lift? Our Patient Lift Knowledge Base and Patient Transfer Lift Assessment Tool can help.

Who May Need a Different Part?

  • Owners of any other lift: Joerns lists 400-3005 for the HPL402. Call us with your model and serial number.
  • Anyone whose lift runs but the battery dies fast: that’s the battery pack (Joerns 400-3003), not the control box.
  • Anyone with a dead hand control only: Joerns lists the pendant (11015531) separately.
  • Anyone with a cut power cable: Joerns lists the control box power cable (400-3016) separately.

What the HPL402 Control Box Does

Joerns’ HPL402 manual labels the power unit’s parts as the battery, the emergency stop, the control box, the LCD display, the charging cord, the hand control cord and the actuator cord. The hand control has two buttons, up and down. The LCD shows battery capacity, and an acoustic alarm sounds at about 50% capacity (the display reads 0%) to tell you to recharge. Joerns says the emergency stop should be pushed in when the lift won’t be used for a while, because the LCD display will trickle down the battery.

Built-In Charger, About 6 Hours

Joerns’ charging instructions for the HPL402: plug the charger into the wall socket before connecting the plug to the control box. After approximately six hours the batteries are fully charged and the LCD should read 100%. Joerns says it is not possible to overcharge the batteries, that the lift will not operate while the charger is connected, and never to charge while someone is in the lift, especially in wet or bathing areas. A control box with battery holds an unused charge for approximately six months.

Duty Cycle

Joerns says the duty cycle printed on the control box label must always be noted: unless the label says otherwise, it’s a maximum of 10%, or six minutes per hour of continuous operation. Exceeding it can overheat and damage the control box.

Mounting on the HPL402

Joerns’ assembly steps: attach the power unit control box to the bracket on the back of the mast with a 1/8″ hex wrench, attach the battery pack to the control box and bracket, then route the actuator cable along the mast and secure it with the clips provided, leaving slack before the top clip for full lift height. The HPL402 parts manual lists the mounting bracket (400-3007) as its own part.

Common Problem → Joerns 400-3005 Control Box Solution

Problem: A family’s HPL402 lights up and the relays click when they press “up,” but the boom doesn’t move. The battery reads full and the actuator plug is seated.

Solution: Joerns’ troubleshooting for that symptom points at the control box. A genuine 400-3005 Linak control box with charger goes onto the existing bracket, the battery clips back on, and the lift is back in service.

“Do we need a new battery too?” Not necessarily. Joerns lists the battery separately; if yours holds a charge, keep it.

Care & Cleaning

Keep the control box dry. Joerns says not to charge the lift in wet or bathing areas and not to open the system. Wipe the housing with a damp cloth, keep the plugs clean and fully seated, and check the cables for damage as part of routine inspection. Push the emergency stop in during long periods of non-use.

Warranty

Joerns’ Hoyer Classics warranty covers the HML400, HPL402 and C-HLA lifts for one year after purchase and names “electronic control box and actuator (for power lifts)” among the covered components, with batteries at 90 days. Replacement parts are covered until the lift’s original warranty period expires. Ask us for the current Joerns warranty terms on a control box bought on its own.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Joerns 400-3005 a complete lift?

No. It’s the Linak control box with built-in charger for the Hoyer HPL402 power lift, sold as a replacement part. You need the HPL402 to use it.

Which lift does the 400-3005 control box fit?

Joerns’ HPL402 parts manual lists it as the HPL402’s control box. For any other Hoyer lift, call us at 585-505-6665 with the model and serial number before ordering.

Does it include the battery?

No. Joerns lists the 24 V battery (400-3003) as a separate part in the same manual. If your battery is fine, keep it; if not, order it with the box.

How do I know the control box is the problem?

Joerns’ troubleshooting table names the control box when the power indicator lights but the actuator won’t run, when the relays click but nothing moves, when the box is okay except for one direction, or when the box is completely dead with a good battery. Check the actuator and hand control plugs first.

How long does it take to charge the lift?

Joerns says approximately six hours, after which the LCD should read 100%. Plug the charger into the wall before connecting it to the control box, and note the lift won’t operate while the charger is connected.

Can I overcharge the battery through this box?

Joerns says it is not possible to overcharge the batteries. A control box with battery holds an unused charge for approximately six months.

What does the alarm mean?

An acoustic battery alarm sounds at about 50% battery capacity (the LCD reads 0%). Joerns says to recharge when the alarm sounds.

Why does Joerns say to push the emergency stop in?

When the lift won’t be used for an extended period, the LCD display trickles down the battery. Pushing the emergency stop in prevents that drain.

Can I install it myself?

Joerns’ manual shows the box attaching to the bracket on the back of the mast with a 1/8″ hex wrench, the battery clipping onto the box, and the actuator cable routed up the mast with clips. Follow the manual; don’t open the box itself.

Is there a duty cycle?

Yes. Unless the control box label says otherwise, Joerns sets it at a maximum of 10%, or six minutes per hour of continuous operation. Exceeding it can overheat and damage the box.

What’s the warranty?

Joerns’ Hoyer Classics warranty covers the lift for one year and names the electronic control box as a covered component; replacement parts are covered until the lift’s original warranty expires. Ask us for the current terms on a box bought on its own.

Shipping & Returns

Shipping & Return Policy

At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.

Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.

Shipping & Order Processing

We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.

Processing Time

Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.

Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.

Transit & Delivery Time

Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.

Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.

Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas

Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.

Freight & Oversized Equipment

Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.

30-Day Return Policy

We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.

Eligible products generally include:

  • Electric and power wheelchairs
  • Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
  • Mobility scooters
  • Walkers and rollators
  • Patient lifts
  • Wheelchair ramps
  • Hospital and homecare beds
  • Eligible medical mattresses
  • Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
  • Overbed tables
  • Bathroom benches and shower chairs
  • Other eligible medical and mobility equipment

Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.

Return Authorization

Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.

You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.

Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.

Condition of Returned Merchandise

To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:

  • In brand-new and unused condition
  • In its complete original manufacturer packaging
  • With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
  • Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
  • In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer

We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.

Restocking Fees

Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.

These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.

If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.

Return Shipping & Shipping Charges

The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.

Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.

Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.

Non-Returnable Products

For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.

We currently do not accept returns on:

  • Parts & accessories
  • Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
  • Patient lift slings
  • Custom or made-to-order products
  • Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page

If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.

Damaged or Incorrect Orders

We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.

If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.

Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.

If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.

Refused Deliveries

Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.

A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.

Return Shipping Deadline

Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.

This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.

Refund Processing

Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.

The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.

If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.

Custom & Made-to-Order Products

Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.

For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.

If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.

Questions Before Ordering?

Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.

Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.

For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
