Description
Medacure ProEx Firm Perimeter Mattress – Hospital Bed Mattress with Firm Edges for Safer Transfers
The Medacure ProEx PX8036-FP is a firm perimeter mattress for hospital beds. Firm foam runs along both sides, so the edge holds up when a patient sits on it to get in or out of bed, and visco memory foam in the center relieves pressure at the sacrum. It is the standard 36″ x 80″ x 6″ hospital bed size. Not sure which mattress type you need? Start with our hospital bed mattress buying guide, then the medical mattress knowledge base.
A soft mattress edge is where many bedside falls start: the patient sits down, the edge compresses, and they slide. As a hospital bed mattress with firm edges, the ProEx FP keeps the sitting edge stable while the center stays soft enough for pressure relief. It is made from 100% polyurethane high density European foam with no fillers, and Medacure backs it with a 7-year warranty.
Prefer a heel slope and a range of sizes? See the Medacure ProEx memory foam mattress. Call 585-505-6665 if you want help choosing.

Why Choose a Firm Perimeter Mattress?
A perimeter foam mattress solves two problems at once. The firm sides give a stable place to sit, stand and transfer, and they define the edge of the bed so a patient can feel where it ends. The softer center with memory foam spreads weight under the hips and lower back. For patients who get in and out of bed often, or who transfer to a wheelchair or commode, that edge support makes each transfer steadier.
Who Is It Best For?
- Patients who sit on the edge of the bed to transfer in and out
- Patients at risk of sliding off a soft mattress edge
- Patients at risk of sacral pressure ulcers who spend long hours in bed
- Standard 36″ x 80″ home and long term care hospital beds
- Caregivers who want a durable foam mattress with a long warranty
Compare it with our other hospital bed mattresses, or use the hospital bed mattress assessment tool.
Who May Need a Different Mattress?
- Stage III or IV pressure ulcers: an alternating pressure or low air loss mattress is usually recommended. See our pressure relief mattress guide.
- Beds other than 36″ x 80″: the ProEx memory foam mattress comes in 76″, 84″ and bariatric sizes.
- Bariatric patients: choose a bariatric width rated for the patient’s weight.
Firm Perimeter on Both Sides
Firm foam along both long edges adds stability where the patient sits, reducing the roll-off and slide that happens on soft edges. Medacure designs it to prevent sliding when transferring in and out of bed.
Visco Memory Foam at the Sacrum
The center of the mattress has visco memory foam where the hips and lower back rest, relieving pressure at the sacrum, one of the most common places for pressure ulcers in bed-bound patients.
Three-Layer Foam Construction
A firm, high density base gives maximum support and keeps the patient from bottoming out, with softer foam above it for comfort. All foam is 100% polyurethane with no fillers, which helps the mattress resist sagging over years of use.
Hospital Grade Cover and Fire Sleeve
The cover is waterproof 70 denier nylon with PVC backing, flame retardant and anti-shear, with a three-sided zipper for easy removal and cleaning. An anti-slip base and elastic corner straps on all four sides keep the mattress in place on the bed deck. A fire sleeve meets the federal mattress flammability standard 16 CFR part 1633.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a firm perimeter mattress?
A hospital bed mattress with firmer foam along both long edges. The firm edges keep the mattress from collapsing when a patient sits on the side of the bed, which makes getting in and out of bed steadier and safer.
What size is the PX8036-FP?
It is 36″ wide, 80″ long and 6″ thick, the standard size for most home and long term care hospital beds.
Does it help with pressure ulcers?
Yes. The ProEx line is designed for pressure ulcer prevention, and the firm perimeter version adds visco memory foam in the center of the mattress to relieve pressure at the sacrum, a common spot for bed sores.
What is the difference from the standard ProEx mattress?
The standard ProEx has a heel slope and a convoluted memory foam top. The firm perimeter version adds firm side edges for safer transfers and places visco memory foam in the center for sacral pressure relief.
Does it meet fire code?
Medacure lists a fire sleeve that meets the federal mattress flammability standard 16 CFR part 1633.
Is the cover waterproof and removable?
The hospital grade cover is waterproof 70 denier nylon with PVC backing, with a three-sided zipper, an anti-slip base and elastic corner straps on all four sides.
What warranty does it have?
Medacure lists a 7-year warranty on the ProEx firm perimeter mattress.

Shipping & Returns
Shipping & Return Policy
At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.
Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.
Shipping & Order Processing
We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.
Processing Time
Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.
Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.
Transit & Delivery Time
Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.
Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.
Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas
Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.
Freight & Oversized Equipment
Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.
30-Day Return Policy
We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.
Eligible products generally include:
- Electric and power wheelchairs
- Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
- Mobility scooters
- Walkers and rollators
- Patient lifts
- Wheelchair ramps
- Hospital and homecare beds
- Eligible medical mattresses
- Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
- Overbed tables
- Bathroom benches and shower chairs
- Other eligible medical and mobility equipment
Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.
Return Authorization
Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.
You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.
Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.
Condition of Returned Merchandise
To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:
- In brand-new and unused condition
- In its complete original manufacturer packaging
- With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
- Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
- In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer
We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.
Restocking Fees
Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.
These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.
If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.
Return Shipping & Shipping Charges
The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.
Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.
Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.
Non-Returnable Products
For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.
We currently do not accept returns on:
- Parts & accessories
- Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
- Patient lift slings
- Custom or made-to-order products
- Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page
If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.
Damaged or Incorrect Orders
We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.
If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.
Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.
If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.
Refused Deliveries
Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.
A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.
Return Shipping Deadline
Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.
This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.
Refund Processing
Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.
The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.
If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.
Custom & Made-to-Order Products
Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.
For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.
If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.
Questions Before Ordering?
Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.
Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.
For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
