Description
Shoprider Smartie Electric Wheel Chair for Sale – Lightweight, Portable & Lithium Powered
The Shoprider Smartie electric wheel chair for sale is a lightweight, portable power wheelchair designed for adults who need powered mobility but do not want to be limited by a large, difficult-to-transport power chair. Built around Shoprider’s wireless take-apart technology, the Smartie separates into three manageable pieces, with the heaviest component weighing only approximately 29 lbs. This makes it especially relevant for users and caregivers who regularly transport a power wheelchair by car for medical appointments, shopping, family visits, travel, and everyday activities outside the home.
The Smartie weighs approximately 92 lbs assembled and supports users up to 250 lbs, yet its three-piece design means the entire wheelchair does not need to be lifted as one heavy unit. It combines that portability with a standard 18″W × 17.5″D gray captain seat, adjustable seat height, adjustable armrests, an adjustable seat-mounted foot platform, solid flat-free wheels, and a joystick that can be configured for left- or right-hand operation.
Another major advantage is Shoprider’s PHET Lithium Iron Phosphate battery system. The current Smartie uses a lightweight lithium iron phosphate battery pack rather than the conventional heavier SLA battery technology commonly associated with traditional power wheelchairs. Shoprider lists the battery pack at approximately 9 lbs and the Smartie with a driving range of up to 8 miles, making this chair particularly attractive for users who prioritize portability, lower transport weight, and practical everyday powered mobility.
Why the Shoprider Smartie Power Wheelchair Stands Out
The Smartie addresses a common problem for power wheelchair users: needing powered mobility at the destination but struggling to transport the wheelchair there. Full-size power wheelchairs can provide excellent mobility, but their size and weight may require a vehicle lift, ramp, or accessible vehicle.
The Smartie approaches that problem differently. Its wireless quick-disconnect system allows the chair to separate into three pieces, with the heaviest piece weighing only 29 lbs. For an appropriate caregiver or user who can safely handle that weight, the individual components may be substantially easier to load into a compatible vehicle than an assembled conventional power wheelchair.
At the same time, the Smartie maintains features many users expect from a traditional power chair, including captain-style seating, joystick operation, adjustable seat height, padded arm support, a foot platform, and available seating and positioning upgrades.
- ✔ Only 29 lb Heaviest Piece
- ✔ Three-Piece Wireless Take-Apart Design
- ✔ Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery System
- ✔ 250 lb Maximum Weight Capacity
- ✔ Captain Seat Comes Standard
- ✔ Up to 8-Mile Driving Range
Who Is the Shoprider Smartie Best For?
The Smartie is particularly well suited to adults with limited walking endurance or mobility who can operate a powered wheelchair but also need their chair to travel with them. That may include older adults and individuals living with mobility limitations associated with weakness, reduced stamina, balance limitations, arthritis, neuromuscular conditions, or other physical disabilities that make independent walking over meaningful distances difficult or impractical.
It may also be useful for someone who can still walk short distances or transfer with appropriate assistance but cannot comfortably walk through a large medical facility, shopping center, community venue, or other destination. Rather than choosing a power chair based solely on indoor use at home, the Smartie is designed for the person whose mobility needs continue after leaving the house.
For caregivers, spouses, and family members, the Smartie’s take-apart design can also address a practical concern: how to transport the user’s mobility equipment without attempting to lift an entire 92 lb wheelchair at once.
The Smartie may be a strong match for:
- ✔ Adults with limited walking endurance
- ✔ Seniors needing powered mobility assistance
- ✔ Users with lower-extremity weakness
- ✔ People with mobility-limiting disabilities
- ✔ Frequent medical appointment transportation
- ✔ Shopping and community mobility needs
- ✔ Users regularly traveling by car
- ✔ Caregivers managing wheelchair transportation
Important: A diagnosis alone does not determine whether a power wheelchair is appropriate. Users with significant postural, pressure-management, cognitive, visual, transfer, or complex rehabilitation seating needs should have those individual needs appropriately evaluated.
Three-Piece Portable Power Wheelchair Design
The Shoprider Smartie uses a quick-disconnect, three-piece take-apart system. Instead of requiring the complete wheelchair to be lifted into a vehicle as one unit, the chair can be dismantled into separate sections for transportation.
This distinction is important when shopping for an electric wheel chair for sale. A chair can be described as lightweight based on its total weight while still being difficult for a caregiver to lift. With a take-apart power chair, the weight of the heaviest individual component becomes one of the most meaningful transportation specifications.
On the current Smartie, that heaviest component weighs approximately 29 lbs.
Only 29 lbs for the Heaviest Piece
The Smartie’s approximately 29 lb heaviest component is one of its strongest advantages for vehicle transportation. The complete chair weighs approximately 92 lbs, but users do not have to treat those 92 lbs as a single transport piece.
For someone searching for “an electric wheelchair that comes apart for a car,” “a lightweight power chair with removable pieces,” or “a power wheelchair a caregiver can transport,” the 29 lb component weight provides a much more useful answer than simply describing the Smartie as lightweight.
Individual lifting abilities differ significantly. A 29 lb component can still be too heavy for some users or caregivers, so the person responsible for loading the wheelchair should determine whether they can safely manage the components before ordering.
Wireless Take-Apart Technology
Shoprider equips the Smartie with its wireless take-apart technology and quick-disconnect system to simplify separation of the wheelchair for transportation.
The Smartie also incorporates advanced electronics and high-efficiency in-line motors into its compact powered-mobility platform. The result is a chair designed around repeatable everyday use rather than portability being treated as an afterthought.
For users who routinely move between home, vehicle, appointments, stores, and community destinations, this can make the Smartie considerably more practical than a power wheelchair that requires permanent vehicle-lift equipment.
PHET Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery Technology
A defining feature of the Smartie is its PHET Lithium Iron Phosphate battery pack. Shoprider developed the Smartie around its Envirofriendly battery system as an alternative to the larger and heavier conventional SLA batteries traditionally used in many powered mobility devices.
The current manufacturer specification lists the Smartie’s PHET LiFE-PO battery pack at approximately 9 lbs. Shoprider describes the battery system as designed for a longer lifespan than conventional SLA battery technology.
For a portable power wheelchair, battery weight matters. A lighter battery system helps support the Smartie’s overall transportation-focused design while still providing the electrical power required for everyday mobility.
Up to 8 Miles of Driving Range
The current Shoprider Smartie specification lists a driving range of up to 8 miles after the initial break-in period of the chair and battery system.
That gives the Smartie practical range for many everyday mobility situations such as appointments, shopping, community outings, and moving around appropriate indoor and maintained outdoor environments.
Actual range can vary based on rider weight, battery condition, terrain, inclines, temperature, driving habits, charging practices, installed accessories, wheelchair maintenance, and other operating conditions. The manufacturer’s “up to 8 miles” specification should therefore be viewed as a maximum rated range rather than a guarantee that every user will achieve exactly eight miles per charge.
3.1 MPH Maximum Speed
The current Smartie has a manufacturer-listed maximum speed of approximately 3.1 mph. This controlled speed is appropriate for the Smartie’s intended role as a compact portable power wheelchair for everyday mobility rather than a high-speed recreational mobility device.
The joystick provides proportional directional control, allowing the user to steer and control movement from the seated position.
Compact 22.8-Inch Wide Power Chair
The Smartie measures approximately 22.8 inches wide × 33.5 inches long. Its relatively compact footprint supports maneuverability and makes the chair easier to store and transport than many larger powered wheelchairs.
For users concerned about fitting a power chair through their home or transporting it in a vehicle, actual doorway, hallway, elevator, ramp, trunk, hatch, and cargo-opening dimensions should always be measured before ordering.
250 lb Maximum Weight Capacity
The Shoprider Smartie supports users weighing up to 250 lbs. This allows the chair to accommodate many adult users while maintaining the lightweight component design central to its portability.
Weight capacity should never be the only factor used to determine wheelchair fit. Seat width and depth, user measurements, transfers, posture, foot positioning, arm support, joystick access, and intended operating environment should all be considered.
Standard 18″ × 17.5″ Gray Captain Seat
The current Smartie configuration comes standard with an 18″W × 17.5″D gray captain seat. This gives users a more substantial seating platform than the basic fabric seating commonly found on many ultra-light travel wheelchairs.
The Smartie also provides adjustable seat height and adjustable arm support, allowing the seating and operating position to be better matched to the individual rider.
Users who need different seat dimensions or a different seating style can choose from a substantial selection of optional Shoprider seating configurations.
Optional Captain Seats, Pillow-Top & Pan Seating
Shoprider offers multiple seating upgrades for the Smartie. Current factory-listed choices include alternative 18″ × 17.5″ captain seats, 19″ × 18″ captain seats, a 20″ × 18″ pillow-top captain seat, 21″ × 21″ captain seats, and several pan-seat configurations.
Available pan-seat configurations include 16″ × 16″, 18″ × 18″, 18″ × 20″, and 20″ × 20″ options, depending on the selected configuration.
Seat upgrades are optional and available at an additional charge. If the standard 18″ × 17.5″ captain seat does not meet the rider’s needs, call MedCare Mobility at 585-505-6665 or chat with a live agent before ordering. We can help confirm current Shoprider seating options, compatibility, availability, and pricing.
Standard Adjustable Seat-Mounted Foot Platform
The standard Smartie includes an adjustable seat-mounted foot platform with approximately 11.5″–18.5″ of adjustment.
The platform provides the standard lower-extremity support configuration and can be adjusted according to the user’s leg length and seating position. Shoprider also allows the standard seat-mounted platform to be omitted at no additional charge when a different compatible front-rigging configuration is selected.
Optional Swing-Away Footrests & Elevating Leg Rests
For users who need a different lower-extremity support configuration, Shoprider offers swing-away footrests and swing-away elevating leg rests as optional upgrades.
The current swing-away footrests provide approximately 17″–19.5″ of adjustment, while the optional elevating leg rests provide approximately 18″–21″ of adjustment. Shoprider also offers left- or right-side residual limb support when appropriate.
These configurations are optional and are not included with the standard Smartie. Call MedCare Mobility at 585-505-6665 or chat with a live agent if you need elevating leg rests, swing-away footrests, or residual-limb support.
Left- or Right-Side Joystick Configuration
The Smartie’s standard configuration includes a fixed inline joystick mount that can be configured for either left- or right-side operation. This allows the chair to be set up according to the user’s preferred driving hand.
This is particularly useful for a rider who has better strength, coordination, dexterity, or control on one side than the other.
Ordering Note: When ordering, please enter your preferred standard joystick position — LEFT or RIGHT — in the Order Notes during checkout. If you require a specialized joystick mount, please contact us before ordering.
Optional Swing-Away & Adjustable Joystick Mounts
Shoprider offers several optional controller-mount upgrades for users requiring additional positioning flexibility. These include swing-away joystick mounts, length-adjustable mounts with a pin, and magnetic length-adjustable mounts, with left- and right-side configurations available.
A swing-away controller can be useful when the joystick needs to move out of the way for certain transfers or closer access to tables and desks. Length-adjustable configurations allow the controller position to be further adapted to the user’s reach.
Optional joystick mounts are available at an additional charge. Contact MedCare Mobility for help determining which configuration is appropriate.
Solid Flat-Free Mobility Wheels
The current Smartie uses 6-inch solid front wheels and 8-inch solid drive wheels. The solid tire design eliminates routine air-pressure maintenance and reduces concern about punctures while the wheelchair is being used away from home.
This is particularly useful for a portable power chair because a user may regularly take the Smartie to appointments, stores, community destinations, or other locations where dealing with a pneumatic flat tire would be inconvenient.
Is the Shoprider Smartie an All-Terrain Electric Wheelchair?
No—the Smartie should not be considered an all-terrain electric wheelchair. It is primarily a lightweight, portable power wheelchair intended for appropriate indoor surfaces and maintained outdoor environments.
The current Smartie has approximately 2 inches of ground clearance, limited suspension, 6-inch solid front wheels, 8-inch solid drive wheels, and a manufacturer-listed safe climbing angle of 6° / 10%. Those specifications favor compactness and portability rather than rough-terrain performance.
The Smartie can be useful outdoors on appropriate maintained surfaces, but users who routinely need to navigate rough grass, loose gravel, significant obstacles, highly uneven ground, or demanding outdoor terrain should consider a power wheelchair specifically engineered for that type of use.
2A Off-Board Battery Charger Included
A 2A off-board charger is included with the current Smartie configuration. Proper battery charging and storage are important for maintaining dependable performance and maximizing battery service life.
Users should follow Shoprider’s battery and charging instructions and use compatible charging equipment for the PHET Lithium Iron Phosphate battery system.
Burgundy or Blue Standard Color Options
The current Smartie can be ordered in Burgundy or Blue, with both colors listed by Shoprider as standard included choices.
Color availability can change, so current inventory and lead time should be confirmed when timing or a specific color is important.
Optional Accessories for the Shoprider Smartie
Shoprider offers several factory-listed accessories that can make the Smartie more useful for individual mobility needs. Current optional accessories include a metal oxygen tank holder, mesh oxygen tank holder, walker holder, cup holder, small rear basket, cane holder, and unoccupied transit tie-down kit.
Accessories are optional unless specifically included with the selected configuration and may carry an additional charge. Compatibility can also depend on the chair’s seating and other installed equipment.
Need to customize your Smartie? Call MedCare Mobility at 585-505-6665 or chat with a live agent for assistance with seating upgrades, elevating leg rests, footrests, joystick mounts, oxygen holders, mobility-device holders, storage accessories, and other available configurations.

Shipping & Returns
Shipping & Return Policy
At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.
Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.
Shipping & Order Processing
We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.
Processing Time
Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.
Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.
Transit & Delivery Time
Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.
Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.
Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas
Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.
Freight & Oversized Equipment
Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.
30-Day Return Policy
We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.
Eligible products generally include:
- Electric and power wheelchairs
- Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
- Mobility scooters
- Walkers and rollators
- Patient lifts
- Wheelchair ramps
- Hospital and homecare beds
- Eligible medical mattresses
- Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
- Overbed tables
- Bathroom benches and shower chairs
- Other eligible medical and mobility equipment
Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.
Return Authorization
Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.
You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.
Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.
Condition of Returned Merchandise
To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:
- In brand-new and unused condition
- In its complete original manufacturer packaging
- With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
- Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
- In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer
We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.
Restocking Fees
Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.
These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.
If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.
Return Shipping & Shipping Charges
The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.
Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.
Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.
Non-Returnable Products
For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.
We currently do not accept returns on:
- Parts & accessories
- Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
- Patient lift slings
- Custom or made-to-order products
- Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page
If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.
Damaged or Incorrect Orders
We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.
If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.
Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.
If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.
Refused Deliveries
Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.
A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.
Return Shipping Deadline
Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.
This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.
Refund Processing
Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.
The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.
If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.
Custom & Made-to-Order Products
Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.
For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.
If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.
Questions Before Ordering?
Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.
Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.
For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
