Description

Graham-Field AmeriLux Ultra Low Bed – Lowers to 4″ From the Floor, 36″ or 42″ Deck, 550 lb Safe Working Load

The AmeriLux Sleep System is Graham-Field’s newest extended care bed and an ultra low bed made for residents at risk of falling. It lowers to 4 inches from the floor, rises to 30 inches for care, and carries a 550 lb safe working load (500 lb maximum patient weight) on a black frame that looks more like bedroom furniture than hospital equipment.

You set it up the way the room needs it. Pick a 36 or 42 inch deck. Pick a head and footboard set in one of four wood finishes, with no staff control or with the Advanced Positioning staff control that adds Trendelenburg and Reverse Trendelenburg. One-button comfort/cardiac chair position comes standard from the hand pendant.

Graham-Field makes the AmeriLux in the USA under its Basic American bed line. It has a grid sleep surface, sealed ball-bearing joints, SilverSolutions® antimicrobial powder coating and four locking casters as standard.

Choosing Your Options

Pick the three options at the top of the page and the price updates as you go. Only the combinations Graham-Field builds are offered, so anything greyed out is not available for the deck you picked. Here is what each choice means.

  • Deck. The 36 in. deck is the standard hospital-bed width and takes a standard 36 in. wide hospital-bed mattress. The 42 in. deck gives a larger resident a wider sleep surface and takes a 42 in. wide mattress. The 42 in. frame takes the 42 in. wide board sets.
  • Head and footboards. The bed frame ships without boards, so this is where you pick a finish. Center Crown boards come in Wild Cherry or Windsor Mahogany; Rectangular boards come in Solar Oak or Cocobala. Whichever you pick, a matched head and footboard set ships with the bed. “None (frame only)” is the bare frame with no head or footboard, which suits a facility that already has boards it wants to reuse.
  • Staff control. A staff control is a caregiver panel built into the footboard, so it is only available when you choose a board set. “No staff control” means every function runs from the hand pendant. “Advanced Positioning staff control” adds the caregiver panel in the footboard plus Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg; Graham-Field notes that T/RT is only available when the bed is ordered with the embedded staff control, so pick this one if you need those positions. Graham-Field does not offer the standard (non-APS) staff control on the AmeriLux.
  • What ships. The AmeriLux frame with its hand pendant, plus the head and footboard set and staff control you picked. Mattresses, fall pads, assist bars and the battery backup are sold separately; you can add them from the Optional Add Ons list below the price.

Not sure which combination you need? Call us at 585-505-6665 and we will match the bed to the resident and the room.

Why Choose the AmeriLux Ultra Low Bed?

A fall from 4 inches is a very different fall from one at 15 or 20 inches. The AmeriLux gets close to the floor, and Graham-Field designed its electronics with full floor clearance, so the bed can sit at its lowest without the motors or control box touching the floor.

It also fixes the look problem. Many families and communities don’t want a resident’s room to feel clinical. The black frame, wood head and footboards and optional wooden side boards make the AmeriLux read as a bed, not a piece of medical equipment, while still giving caregivers a 30 inch working height and Advanced Positioning.

Who Is the AmeriLux Best For?

This floor level bed fits residents who get out of bed on their own and the people responsible for keeping them safe:

  • Memory care and assisted living communities working to cut fall injuries
  • Residents at high risk of falling who still need a full-electric bed
  • Rooms where the bed should look like home furniture
  • Families setting up a parent’s room where a low bed and a fall mat make the most sense
  • Residents up to 500 lb (550 lb safe working load with mattress and boards)

Still deciding? Our Hospital Bed Buying Guide compares bed types by condition, and the Hospital Bed Knowledge Base covers room fit, upkeep and features.

Who May Need a Different Bed?

  • Heavier residents: the Zenith 9200 APS has a 600 lb safe working load and a Slide-W-I-D-E® deck that sets up to 42 inches.
  • Residents who need a pedal lock instead of casters: look at the Zenith 7200 APS or the Matrix 6200 APS.
  • Residents over 500 lb: choose a bariatric bed.
  • People who can’t bear weight: a low bed helps with falls, not transfers. Pair it with a patient lift.

4 Inch to 30 Inch Ultra-Low Height

The AmeriLux travels from floor level at 4 inches to nursing height at 30 inches. Keep it low at night and while the resident is alone, then raise it so caregivers can change linens, bathe or reposition without bending. Graham-Field’s patented hi-low mechanism sits inside the main frame tubes, so there are no holes on the top side to collect dirt or bacteria.

Pick Your Width: 36 or 42 Inches

  • 36 inch deck: the standard width for most rooms and standard mattresses.
  • 42 inch deck: more room to turn over, and closer to the size of a home bed for residents who are used to one.

Match the head and footboards and the mattress to the deck width you choose.

Pick Your Head and Footboards

The frame and the boards are separate Graham-Field parts, so you choose the set here. Every set is a matching head and footboard pair:

  • Center Crown, Wild Cherry
  • Center Crown, Windsor Mahogany
  • Rectangular, Solar Oak
  • Rectangular, Cocobala
  • Frame only, if you already have boards that fit

With the Advanced Positioning staff control, the 42 inch boards come in Wild Cherry, Windsor Mahogany and Solar Oak; Cocobala in 42 inch comes without a control. The selector only shows the combinations Graham-Field makes. Graham-Field offers the AmeriLux in 7 standard board styles and 13 finishes, plus custom styles or finishes on request, and wooden side boards for a more home-like look. Call us at 585-505-6665 for any style that isn’t listed here.

Pick Your Staff Control: None or Advanced Positioning

The staff control is a caregiver control built into the footboard, separate from the resident’s hand pendant.

  • No staff control: the bed runs from the hand pendant, with one-button comfort/cardiac chair position standard.
  • Advanced Positioning staff control: adds Trendelenburg and Reverse Trendelenburg, with two-stage lockouts so staff can lock functions out from the resident.

Plain answer: Trendelenburg and Reverse Trendelenburg need the embedded staff control in the footboard. Graham-Field lists it as an upgrade for the AmeriLux, so choose the Advanced Positioning boards if your care plan calls for those positions.

Four Locking Casters, Standard

The AmeriLux rolls on four locking casters, and the locks are easy to see and reach at every height and width. Lock it in place for sleep and care, then unlock it to clean underneath or move the bed.

Built for Cleaning and Daily Use

  • SilverSolutions® antimicrobial in the powder coating, which deters the growth of odor-causing bacteria
  • Sealed ball bearings in the joints for smooth, quiet, maintenance-free movement
  • Grid sleep surface with cross braces for a firm, no-sag deck
  • Energy-saving electronics, grounded, with a right-angle hospital-grade plug
  • Plug-and-play digital electronics, so you can add a staff control, under-bed light or USB charger later

AmeriLux vs. Zenith 9200 vs. Zenith 7200

All three are Graham-Field Basic American extended care beds that take the same family of wood head and footboards. Here’s how they differ:

  • AmeriLux: lowest at 4 inches, highest at 30; 550 lb safe working load, 500 lb patient; 36 or 42 inch deck; four locking casters; 12-year frame warranty
  • Zenith 9200 APS: 7 to 30 inches; 600 lb safe working load, 550 lb patient; 36 inch or Slide-W-I-D-E® deck; 15-year frame warranty
  • Zenith 7200 APS: 7.95 to 30 inches; 550 lb safe working load, 500 lb patient; 36 inch or Slide-W-I-D-E® deck; 15-year frame warranty

If falls are the main worry, the AmeriLux gets closest to the floor. If capacity is the main worry, go with the Zenith 9200.

Common Problem → AmeriLux Solution

Problem: Mom keeps trying to get up at night, and her bed is too high to be safe if she slips.

Solution: The AmeriLux lowers to 4 inches from the floor. Add Graham-Field’s High Fall Pad beside it. Graham-Field designed the pad so a fall out of bed becomes a gentle roll onto a padded surface.

“Can her bed go almost to the floor at night and back up for her aide in the morning?” Yes. It travels from 4 to 30 inches.

Mattresses, Fall Pads & Accessories for the AmeriLux

Mattress: choose a hospital bed mattress that matches your deck width, 36 or 42 inches. The mattress counts toward the 550 lb safe working load.

Accessories Graham-Field makes for the AmeriLux (sold separately):

  • High Fall Pad (FP3076), a padded floor mat for beside the bed
  • Fixed Assist Bar (ZA97000)
  • Counter-Rotating Assists, pair (ZA97100), not for use when wooden side boards are installed
  • Battery Backup Kit (ZA97200)
  • Under-bed light and USB charger, which Graham-Field lists on the AmeriLux page

You can also browse our bed rails and hospital bed accessories. If a part isn’t listed, ask us whether it fits the AmeriLux.

Frequently Asked Questions

How low does the AmeriLux bed go?

The AmeriLux lowers to 4 inches from the floor and rises to 30 inches for care. Graham-Field built the electronics to keep full floor clearance, so nothing underneath touches the floor at the lowest setting.

How much weight does the AmeriLux hold?

Graham-Field rates the AmeriLux for a 550 lb safe working load and a 500 lb maximum patient weight. The 550 lb counts the resident, the mattress, the boards and any accessories together.

Does the AmeriLux sit a resident up like a chair?

Yes. The AmeriLux comes standard with Graham-Field’s Advanced Positioning System and pendant, which includes one-button comfort/cardiac chair position.

Do I need the staff control for Trendelenburg?

Yes. Trendelenburg and Reverse Trendelenburg need the embedded staff control in the footboard. Choose the Advanced Positioning staff control boards on this page if your care plan calls for them.

How long is the AmeriLux sleep surface?

The sleep surface adjusts from 80 to 84 inches long, on a 36 or 42 inch wide deck. Choose a mattress that fits the length and width you’ll use.

Which width should I pick, 36 or 42 inches?

Pick 36 inches for a standard room and a standard mattress. Pick 42 inches for a resident who’s used to a wider bed or needs more room to turn, and match the head and footboards and the mattress to the same width.

Are head and footboards included?

They’re a separate Graham-Field part, so you choose them here: four finishes in 36 or 42 inch width, with or without the Advanced Positioning staff control. You can also order the frame only.

Is a mattress included?

No. Choose a mattress that matches the deck width, 36 or 42 inches. The mattress counts toward the 550 lb safe working load.

Does the AmeriLux come with a fall mat?

No, the fall mat is an option. Graham-Field’s High Fall Pad (FP3076) is made for the AmeriLux and is sold separately.

Can I put assist bars on the AmeriLux?

Yes. Graham-Field makes a fixed assist bar (ZA97000) and a pair of counter-rotating assists (ZA97100) for the AmeriLux. The counter-rotating assists can’t be used when the bed has wooden side boards installed.

Does the AmeriLux have locking casters?

Yes. Four locking casters come standard, and the locks are easy to see and reach at every height and width.

What warranty comes with the AmeriLux?

Graham-Field covers the frame and welds for 12 years, the control box and motors for 5 years, the hand pendant, staff control and cabling for 3 years, and the head and footboards and other parts for 1 year. We help with any claim.

Can I get a different board style or finish?

Yes, most likely. Graham-Field offers the AmeriLux in 7 standard board styles and 13 finishes, with custom styles or finishes on request. The four finishes on this page are the stocked ones, so call us for any other and we’ll get it priced.

Is the AmeriLux good for memory care?

It’s a good fit. The 4 inch low height lowers fall risk for residents who get up on their own, and the black frame and wood boards look like home furniture instead of hospital equipment.
