Description

Zenith 9200 APS 600 lb Hospital Bed – Hi-Low Extended Care Bed, 7″ to 30″, 36″ or Slide-W-I-D-E® Deck

The Zenith 9200 APS is the heaviest-duty bed in Graham-Field’s Zenith line, a 600 lb hospital bed built for nursing homes, assisted living, memory care and home care. It carries a 600 lb safe working load with a 550 lb maximum patient weight, lowers to 7 inches and rises to 30 inches, and runs on four DC motors with sealed ball-bearing joints.

You build it the way you need it. Pick a 36 inch fixed deck or the Slide-W-I-D-E® deck that sets at 36, 39 or 42 inches. Pick a head and footboard set in one of four wood finishes, with no staff control, a standard staff control or the Advanced Positioning staff control that adds Trendelenburg, Reverse Trendelenburg and chair position. Or order the frame alone if you already have boards.

Graham-Field makes the 9200 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, as part of its Basic American extended care bed line. The frame has a grid sleep surface, SilverSolutions® antimicrobial powder coating and a two-pedal locking system you can reach at any height.

Choosing Your Options

Pick the three options at the top of the page and the price updates as you go. Only the combinations Graham-Field builds are offered, so anything greyed out is not available for the deck you picked. Here is what each choice means.

  • Deck. The 36 in. fixed deck is the standard hospital-bed width and takes a standard 36 in. wide hospital-bed mattress. The Slide-W-I-D-E deck expands and retracts between 35, 39 and 42 inches with two quick-release pins on each side, so a larger resident gets a wider sleep surface and the bed still narrows to roll through a doorway. Slide-W-I-D-E frames take the 42 in. wide board sets.
  • Head and footboards. The bed frame ships without boards, so this is where you pick a finish. Center Crown boards come in Wild Cherry or Windsor Mahogany; Rectangular boards come in Solar Oak or Cocobala. Whichever you pick, a matched head and footboard set ships with the bed. “None (frame only)” is the bare frame with no head or footboard, which suits a facility that already has boards it wants to reuse.
  • Staff control. A staff control is a caregiver panel built into the footboard, so it is only available when you choose a board set. “No staff control” means every function runs from the hand pendant. “Standard staff control” adds the caregiver panel in the footboard, so staff can run the bed from the foot end. “Advanced Positioning staff control” adds Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg on top of that; Graham-Field notes that T/RT is only available when the bed is ordered with the embedded staff control, so pick this one if you need those positions.
  • What ships. The Zenith 9200 APS frame with its hand pendant, plus the head and footboard set and staff control you picked. Mattresses, assist bars, the trapeze adaptor, extension kit and under-bed light are sold separately; you can add them from the Optional Add Ons list below the price.

Not sure which combination you need? Call us at 585-505-6665 and we will match the bed to the resident and the room.

Why Choose the Zenith 9200 APS?

A typical home care bed, such as the Lumex Patriot, is rated for a 350 lb patient. The 9200 gives a heavier resident real room on a bed that still looks and works like a long-term care bed, not a bariatric frame. The 600 lb rating includes the mattress, boards and accessories, so you aren’t losing capacity the moment you dress the bed.

It’s also built to last in daily care. Graham-Field backs the frame and welds for 15 years and the motors and control box for 5. It’s tested to ANSI/AAMI ES60601 for tip stability, load at twice the operating capacity, roll clearance and splash-proof electronics. We’re an authorized dealer, and we’ll help you pick the right deck, boards and add-ons before you order.

Who Is the Zenith 9200 Best For?

This 600 lb hospital bed fits residents who need more capacity than a standard bed and the caregivers who move them every day:

  • Nursing homes, assisted living and memory care communities that want one frame for a wide range of residents
  • Heavier residents up to 550 lb who don’t need a full bariatric bed
  • Facilities that want a wider sleep surface for residents used to a bigger bed at home (Slide-W-I-D-E® deck)
  • Home care setups for a larger loved one, where the bed has to lower for safety and rise for care
  • Care plans that call for Trendelenburg or chair position (with the Advanced Positioning staff control)

Still comparing? Our Hospital Bed Buying Guide explains the bed types, and the Hospital Bed Knowledge Base covers room fit, upkeep and features.

Who May Need a Different Bed?

  • Residents over 550 lb: go to a true bariatric bed such as the Joerns RC 750 or the Joerns RC 1000.
  • Very high fall risk: the Graham-Field AmeriLux lowers to 4 inches from the floor, lower than the 9200’s 7 inches.
  • Lighter residents on a budget: the Zenith 7200 APS (550 lb safe working load) or the Matrix 6200 APS (450 lb) share the same Zenith-style frame and boards.
  • People who can’t bear weight: a bed won’t do the transfer. Pair it with a patient lift.

Pick Your Deck: 36 Inch Fixed or Slide-W-I-D-E®

  • 36 inch fixed deck: the standard width for most rooms and standard 36 inch mattresses.
  • Slide-W-I-D-E® deck: slides on the frame and sets at 36, 39 or 42 inches with two quick-release ball-detent pins on each side. The pins are tethered to the bed with lanyards, so they don’t get lost.

Graham-Field designs the Slide-W-I-D-E® so staff can narrow the bed quickly to get through a doorway during an evacuation, then widen it again in the room. The Slide-W-I-D-E® deck has plastic corner mattress retainers, and its rails and assist devices come off without tools. Graham-Field offers its head and footboards in both 36 inch and wider 42 inch sizes for this deck.

Pick Your Head and Footboards

Graham-Field orders the footboard separately from the frame because of the number of board styles, and if the boards are ordered with the bed, the staff control comes pre-installed in the footboard at the factory. The 9200 takes Graham-Field’s Zenith-series sets, so you choose the set here. Every set is a matching head and footboard pair:

  • Center Crown, Wild Cherry
  • Center Crown, Windsor Mahogany
  • Rectangular, Solar Oak
  • Rectangular, Cocobala
  • Frame only, if you already have Zenith-compatible boards

Not every finish comes in every width and control, so the selector only shows the combinations Graham-Field makes. Graham-Field’s catalog also shows more styles and finishes made to order. If you want one of those, call us at 585-505-6665 and we’ll price it.

Pick Your Staff Control: None, Standard or Advanced Positioning

The staff control is a caregiver control built into the footboard. It’s separate from the resident’s hand pendant.

  • No staff control: the bed runs from the hand pendant. No Trendelenburg.
  • Standard staff control: a caregiver control with two-stage lockouts, so staff can lock bed functions out from the resident. No Trendelenburg.
  • Advanced Positioning staff control: the lockouts plus one-button chair position, Trendelenburg and Reverse Trendelenburg at the footboard.

Plain answer: Trendelenburg and Reverse Trendelenburg need the Advanced Positioning staff control. Boards with no control or the standard control won’t tilt the bed. Graham-Field’s own order note for the 9200 reads “for T/RT, order with embedded staff control.” If the care plan calls for Trendelenburg, Reverse Trendelenburg or chair position at the footboard, choose the Advanced Positioning boards.

7 Inch to 30 Inch Hi-Low Height

The 9200 lowers to 7 inches to cut the distance of a fall and rises to 30 inches so caregivers can work at a comfortable height for linens, bathing and repositioning. Graham-Field’s patented hi-low mechanism sits inside the main frame tubes, so there are no holes on the top side to collect dirt or bacteria.

Two-Pedal Locking You Can Reach at Any Height

The two-pedal locking system is centrally located and stays easy to see and reach at every height and width. The pedals lock the bed to the floor so it stays put during transfers and care.

Built for Cleaning and Daily Use

  • SilverSolutions® antimicrobial in the powder coating for surface protection
  • Sealed ball bearings in the joints for smooth, quiet, maintenance-free movement
  • Grid sleep surface with cross braces for a firm, no-sag deck
  • Energy-saving electronics, grounded, with a right-angle hospital-grade plug
  • Plug-and-play digital electronics, so you can add a staff control, under-bed light or USB charger later

Zenith 9200 vs. Zenith 7200 vs. Matrix 6200

All three are Graham-Field Basic American extended care beds with the same style of frame and the same board sets. The difference is capacity and height:

  • Zenith 9200: 600 lb safe working load, 550 lb patient, 7 to 30 inches, 36 inch or Slide-W-I-D-E® deck
  • Zenith 7200 APS: 550 lb safe working load, 500 lb patient, 7.95 to 30 inches, 36 inch or Slide-W-I-D-E® deck
  • Matrix 6200 APS: 450 lb safe working load, 400 lb patient, 8.95 to 27 inches, 36 or 42 inch fixed deck

If the resident is close to the 7200’s limit, or you want headroom for a heavier mattress and accessories, the 9200 is the safer pick.

Common Problem → Zenith 9200 Solution

Problem: A resident is too heavy for your standard beds, but a bariatric frame is too big for the room and looks out of place.

Solution: The Zenith 9200 holds up to 550 lb of resident on a standard-size frame, and the Slide-W-I-D-E® deck gives extra width only when it’s needed.

“Can I get a bigger bed without it looking like a hospital?” Yes. Pick the wood finish boards and the 42 inch deck setting.

Mattresses, Rails & Accessories for the Zenith 9200

Mattress: choose a hospital bed mattress that matches the deck width you’ll use: 36 inches on the fixed deck, or 36, 39 or 42 inches on the Slide-W-I-D-E®. The sleep surface runs 80 to 84 inches long. Remember the mattress counts toward the 600 lb safe working load.

Accessories Graham-Field makes for this bed (sold separately):

  • 4 Inch Foot Deck Extension Kit for Zenith 9200 (ZA95792)
  • Trapeze Adaptor for Zenith 9200 (ZA96500), needed before you add a trapeze bar set
  • Under-Bed Light Kit (ZA90011), which Graham-Field lists for the Zenith 9200
  • USB Charger Kit (ZA96300), which Graham-Field’s Zenith 9200 manual lists
  • Edema foot ratchet: standard on the 9200, nothing to add

You can also browse our bed rails and hospital bed accessories and trapeze bars. Graham-Field doesn’t list an assist bar for the 9200, and it lists a backup battery as an option without a separate part number on its page, so call us for either and we’ll confirm with Graham-Field.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much weight does the Zenith 9200 hold?

The Zenith 9200 has a 600 lb safe working load and a 550 lb maximum patient weight, evenly distributed. The 600 lb counts everything on the bed: the person, the mattress, the head and footboards and any accessories.

What’s the difference between the Zenith 9200 and the Zenith 7200?

The 9200 holds more. It’s rated for 600 lb safe working load and 550 lb patient weight, against 550 lb and 500 lb on the Zenith 7200, and it lowers to 7 inches instead of 7.95. Both come with the same deck and board choices and the same warranty terms.

How low and how high does the Zenith 9200 go?

It travels from 7 inches at its lowest to 30 inches at its highest. The low end helps with fall risk and the high end saves caregivers from bending.

Which deck should I pick, the 36 inch fixed deck or the Slide-W-I-D-E®?

Pick the 36 inch fixed deck for a standard room and a standard mattress. Pick the Slide-W-I-D-E® if you want to set the bed at 36, 39 or 42 inches with pins, for a larger resident, a wider mattress or a resident who’s used to a bigger home bed.

Do I need the staff control to get Trendelenburg?

Yes. Graham-Field says to order the bed with the embedded staff control for Trendelenburg and Reverse Trendelenburg, and it has to be the Advanced Positioning staff control. The bed tilts up to 12 degrees either way.

What’s the difference between the standard and the Advanced Positioning staff control?

Both are caregiver controls built into the footboard, with two-stage lockouts that let staff lock functions out from the resident. Only the Advanced Positioning control adds Trendelenburg and Reverse Trendelenburg, plus one-button chair position at the footboard.

Are head and footboards included?

They’re a separate Graham-Field part, so you pick them on this page. Choose one of four finishes from Graham-Field’s Zenith-series sets, with or without a staff control, or choose frame only if you already have boards that fit. Ordered together, the staff control comes pre-installed in the footboard.

Is a mattress included?

No. The Zenith 9200 is sold as the bed frame with your choice of boards. Choose a mattress that matches your deck width: 36 inches on the fixed deck, or the width you’ll use on the Slide-W-I-D-E®.

Does the Zenith 9200 have an edema foot position?

Yes. Graham-Field lists the edema foot ratchet as standard on the Zenith 9200, so the foot end can be raised without an add-on kit.

Does the length adjust for taller residents?

Yes. The sleep surface adjusts from 80 to 84 inches. Graham-Field also makes a 4 inch foot deck extension kit for the Zenith 9200 (ZA95792), sold separately.

Can I add a trapeze to the Zenith 9200?

Yes. You need Graham-Field’s Zenith 9200 trapeze adaptor (ZA96500) on the bed first, then a trapeze bar. Ask us and we’ll confirm the right parts.

Will the bed roll out of a room in an emergency?

Yes. Graham-Field certifies the Zenith 9200 as a transport device for the CMS Emergency Preparedness Plan, and the Slide-W-I-D-E® deck pulls back in to fit through doorways.

What warranty comes with the Zenith 9200?

Graham-Field covers the frame and welds for 15 years, the control box and motors for 5 years, the hand pendant, staff control and cabling for 3 years, and the head and footboards and other parts for 1 year. We help with any claim.

Where is the Zenith 9200 made?

Graham-Field builds it in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, under its Basic American bed line. The head and footboard sets ship from the same bed plant.
