Description
Everest & Jennings Deluxe Aluminum Transport Chair – 12″ Rear Wheels, 300 lb Capacity, Blue Celeste
The Everest & Jennings deluxe transport chair is built for the person doing the pushing as much as the person riding. It’s a transport chair with 12 inch rear wheels, flat-free so there’s nothing to pump up, and the wheel locks are worked from a lever on the push handle so the companion doesn’t have to bend down to set them. This E&J transport chair has a Blue Celeste aluminum frame and weighs 21.38 lb without the footrests.
Graham-Field rates it for 300 lb, evenly distributed. The 19″ wide seat has flame-retardant padded black nylon upholstery, the full-length arms are padded, and the back folds down so the chair packs small. A 42″ positioning belt, a leg strap and carry straps on the seat come with it.
We sell it in Blue Celeste (Graham-Field code EJ871-1).
Transport Chair vs. Wheelchair: Which Do You Need?
A transport chair is pushed by a companion. It has small rear wheels instead of the big wheels with handrims you find on a wheelchair, so the person sitting in it can’t roll themselves. What you get in return is a chair that’s lighter, narrower and easier to fold into a car. Graham-Field’s manual says this chair is meant to be pushed by an attendant at all times. If the user wants to move around on their own, choose a manual wheelchair instead.
Why Choose the Everest & Jennings Deluxe Transport Chair?
Two details make the “deluxe” more than a name. First, the 12″ rear wheels are bigger than the small wheels on many basic transport chairs, and they have flat-free polyurethane tires, so they roll more easily over thresholds and sidewalk joints and never go flat. Second, the attendant wheel locks run by cable to the push handle. Squeeze the lower grip and the rear wheels hold while you keep squeezing; push it down and they lock until you release them, which is handy during a transfer.
Add the 300 lb rating and a 21.38 lb frame, and it’s a sturdy chair a caregiver can still lift.
Who Is the Deluxe Transport Chair Best For?
The deluxe transport chair is a good fit for:
- Caregivers who push a parent or spouse to appointments, stores and family visits
- Riders up to 300 lb who need a sturdier transport chair
- Families who want a chair that lifts into a trunk (21.38 lb without footrests)
- Users who can walk short distances but tire out on longer trips
- Anyone who wants flat-free tires and locks the companion can reach from the handles
Comparing transfer options? Our Guide to Patient Transfer Equipment explains transport chairs, transfer aids and when each makes sense.
Who May Need a Different Chair?
- People who want to push themselves: a transport chair has no large rear wheels or handrims. Choose a manual wheelchair.
- Riders over 300 lb: ask us about a bariatric chair.
- Anyone who needs elevating legrests or a reclining back: this chair has swing-away footrests and a fixed seating position.
- Long, rough outdoor trips: 12″ wheels handle sidewalks and parking lots, but they aren’t built for grass, gravel or steep hills.
300 lb Weight Capacity
Graham-Field rates the deluxe transport chair for a maximum of 300 lb, evenly distributed. For comparison, GF’s standard E&J lightweight aluminum transport chair is rated for 250 lb, so the deluxe is the one to pick for a heavier rider.
12″ Flat-Free Rear Wheels and 8″ Front Casters
The rear wheels are 12″ with 2.25″ wide polyurethane tires, and GF calls them flat free. Up front are 8″ swivel casters. Bigger wheels in back make it easier to push over door thresholds, rugs and curb cuts. Keep ramps gentle: Graham-Field’s manual warns against inclines steeper than 6 degrees.
Handle-Mounted Attendant Wheel Locks
The companion locks both rear wheels from the push handle. Squeeze the lower grip up toward the handle for a temporary hold, or push it down until it clicks for a lock that stays on during a transfer. These are wheel locks, not brakes: use them only once the chair has stopped, never to slow it down.
19″ Padded Seat, Padded Arms, Fold-Down Back
The seat is 19″ wide and 16″ deep, 18″ off the floor, with flame-retardant black padded nylon upholstery. Fixed full-length padded arms give the rider something to rest on, and the 18″ back folds down for storage.
Folds to 10″ and Weighs 21.38 lb
Take off the tool-free swing-away footrests, fold the back down, and fold the frame to 10″ wide. It weighs 21.38 lb without the footrests, and the carry straps on the seat give you something to hold when you lift it into the trunk or back seat.
Deluxe Transport Chair vs. E&J Lightweight Aluminum Transport Chair
The Everest & Jennings lightweight aluminum transport chair is about a pound and a half lighter at 20 lb and comes in 17″ or 19″ seats, but it’s rated for 250 lb and its wheel locks are set at the rear wheels. The deluxe adds a 300 lb rating, 12″ flat-free rear wheels, locks on the push handle, composite footplates and an included positioning belt. For a heavier rider or a caregiver who doesn’t want to bend down for the locks, choose the deluxe.
Common Problem → Deluxe Transport Chair Solution
Problem: Dad can walk around the house, but a doctor visit means a long hallway and a parking lot. His old transport chair’s little wheels catch on every threshold, and his wife has to crouch down to set the locks.
Solution: The 12″ flat-free rear wheels roll over thresholds more easily, and she sets the locks from the push handle while she helps him in and out.
“Will it fit in a small car?” It folds to 10″ wide and weighs 21.38 lb without footrests, so most trunks and back-seat floors take it.
Sizing & Fit
- Seat: 19″ wide, 16″ deep. Measure hip width seated; the rider should fit with a little room on each side.
- Seat height: 18″ from the floor.
- Back height: 18″.
- Doorways: 23″ wide overall. Make sure your narrowest door is wider than that.
- Length: 32″ without footrests (GF manual); GF’s product sheet lists 37″ overall depth.
- Storage: 10″ wide folded, 38″ tall.
- Weight: rider up to 300 lb, evenly distributed.
Care & Cleaning
Graham-Field’s maintenance schedule says to wipe the frame with a soft cloth regularly and clean it with soap and water every few months. Check the tires and the wheel lock engagement often, look over the upholstery, arms and footrests for wear, and make sure the casters swivel freely. Caster and bearing adjustments are a dealer job, so call us at 585-505-6665 if anything feels loose.
What’s Included
Per Graham-Field, the chair comes with tool-free detachable swing-away footrests with composite footplates, a 42″ positioning belt, a 3″ webbing leg strap with adjustable loops that slide over the footrests, and carry straps on the seat. Ask us to confirm anything else you expect in the box.
Warranty
Graham-Field lists a one-year limited warranty. Its manual specifies one year on the sideframes and crossbraces and six months on other durable parts, for the original purchaser. As an authorized dealer, we’ll help with any claim.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a transport chair?
A folding chair that a companion pushes. It has small rear wheels and no handrims, so the rider can’t propel it alone, but it’s lighter and more compact than a wheelchair.
How much weight does the deluxe transport chair hold?
Graham-Field rates it for 300 lb, evenly distributed.
How much does it weigh?
21.38 lb without the footrests.
What size are the wheels?
The rear wheels are 12″ with flat-free polyurethane tires, and the front casters are 8″ swivel casters.
Can the person sitting in it push themselves?
No. Graham-Field designs it to be pushed by an attendant at all times. For self-propelling, choose a manual wheelchair with large rear wheels.
How do the wheel locks work?
From the push handle. Squeeze the lower grip for a temporary hold, or push it down until it locks to keep the wheels set during a transfer. They’re wheel locks, not brakes, so use them only when the chair is stopped.
How wide is it? Will it fit through doors?
It’s 23″ wide overall. Most interior doors are wider, but measure your narrowest one, especially bathrooms.
Does it fold for the car?
Yes. Remove the footrests, fold the back down and fold the frame to 10″ wide. Use the seat carry straps to lift it.
What comes with it?
Swing-away footrests with composite footplates, a 42″ positioning belt, a leg strap and seat carry straps, per Graham-Field.
What color is it?
Blue Celeste aluminum frame with black padded nylon upholstery.
Can the rider stay in the chair in a vehicle?
No. Graham-Field’s manual says to transfer to the vehicle seat and use its seat belt, and to store the folded chair in the back seat area or trunk.
What’s the warranty?
Graham-Field lists a one-year limited warranty: sideframes and crossbraces one year, other durable parts six months.

Shipping & Returns
Shipping & Return Policy
At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.
Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.
Shipping & Order Processing
We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.
Processing Time
Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.
Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.
Transit & Delivery Time
Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.
Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.
Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas
Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.
Freight & Oversized Equipment
Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.
30-Day Return Policy
We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.
Eligible products generally include:
- Electric and power wheelchairs
- Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
- Mobility scooters
- Walkers and rollators
- Patient lifts
- Wheelchair ramps
- Hospital and homecare beds
- Eligible medical mattresses
- Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
- Overbed tables
- Bathroom benches and shower chairs
- Other eligible medical and mobility equipment
Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.
Return Authorization
Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.
You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.
Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.
Condition of Returned Merchandise
To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:
- In brand-new and unused condition
- In its complete original manufacturer packaging
- With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
- Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
- In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer
We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.
Restocking Fees
Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.
These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.
If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.
Return Shipping & Shipping Charges
The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.
Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.
Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.
Non-Returnable Products
For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.
We currently do not accept returns on:
- Parts & accessories
- Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
- Patient lift slings
- Custom or made-to-order products
- Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page
If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.
Damaged or Incorrect Orders
We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.
If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.
Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.
If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.
Refused Deliveries
Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.
A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.
Return Shipping Deadline
Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.
This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.
Refund Processing
Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.
The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.
If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.
Custom & Made-to-Order Products
Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.
For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.
If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.
Questions Before Ordering?
Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.
Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.
For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
