Description
Medacure Comfort Zone with Defined Air Perimeter – Low Air Loss Mattress with Bolsters
The Medacure Comfort Zone with built-in air perimeter is a low air loss mattress with bolsters for patients who need pressure ulcer therapy and protection from falling out of bed. Raised air bolsters along both sides define the edge of the bed, and underneath is the full Comfort Zone alternating pressure system. Comparing surfaces? Start with our hospital bed mattress buying guide and the medical mattress knowledge base.
As an air mattress with bolsters, it keeps the perimeter part of the surface, so there is no gap between a rail and the mattress. Each side inflates and deflates independently in seconds for transfers, and the mid-section is open for getting in and out.
For facilities and families who want a fall prevention air mattress, it comes in 36″ for standard beds and 42″ or 48″ for bariatric beds. Questions? Call us at 585-505-6665.
✅ Key Features
- ✔️ Built-In Air Bolster Perimeter
- ✔️ Each Side Inflates/Deflates in 10 Seconds
- ✔️ Alternating Pressure + Low Air Loss
- ✔️ Cell-on-Cell, No Bottoming Out
- ✔️ Digital Pump with Power Failure Alert
- ✔️ 36″, 42″ or 48″ Wide, Up to 1,000 lb
Why a Built-In Air Perimeter?
Falls from bed are one of the most common injuries for patients on air mattresses, because a soft, moving surface makes the edge harder to feel. Full side rails solve one problem and create others: patients climb over them and limbs get caught in gaps. Air bolsters raise the long edges of the mattress itself, so there is no gap between rail and surface and no hard bar to climb. The patient feels the edge and stays centered.
Who Is It Best For?
- Fall risk patients who also need an alternating pressure surface
- Patients with pressure ulcers who are restless or confused at night
- Facilities reducing full length side rail use
- Standard 36″ beds and 42″ or 48″ bariatric beds
- Patients up to 450 lbs (CZ36-BIP) or up to 1,000 lbs (CZ42-BIP, CZ48-BIP)
Check fit and therapy level with the hospital bed mattress assessment tool.
Who May Need Something Else?
- Patients who do not need a fall prevention surface: the standard Comfort Zone alternating pressure mattress costs less.
- Low risk patients: a foam mattress plus a defined perimeter mattress cover may be enough.
- Patients needing maximum airflow for advanced wounds: see our pressure relief mattress guide for true low air loss options.
Independent Side Inflate and Deflate
Each side’s air bolster inflates and deflates on its own. Lower the side you transfer from, move the patient, then raise it again, all in about 10 seconds per Medacure. The mid-section is open for safe egress and ingress.
Comfort Zone Therapy Underneath
Under the perimeter is the full Comfort Zone system: 20 snap-out cells with a cell-on-cell design (the lower 4″ retain air), 8 ventilated low air loss cells, alternating pressure and static modes, and a 3-cell pillow section that stays still. A patented CPR quick inflate/deflate system empties the mattress fast in an emergency.
The Digital Pump
The Comfort Zone pump is built for caregivers who are not mattress technicians. The digital control panel sets therapy by the patient’s weight or by firmness across 10 pressure levels, and switches between alternating pressure and static mode. Alternating cycle time is variable at 10, 15, 20 or 25 minutes. Auto firm inflation firms the surface for care and transfers, a panel lock stops accidental changes, and low pressure and power failure alerts tell staff when something needs attention. The air filter is quick-change, and Medacure describes the pump as whisper quiet.
Sizes
| Medacure Item # | Dimensions (W x L x H) | Series / Capacity |
| CZ36-BIP | 36″ x 80″ x 8″ | Comfort Zone standard, 450 lbs |
| CZ42-BIP | 42″ x 80″ x 10″ | Comfort Zone bariatric, 1,000 lbs |
| CZ48-BIP | 48″ x 80″ x 10″ | Comfort Zone bariatric, 1,000 lbs |
Setting Up
Place the mattress on the deck, fasten the straps to the bed frame and hang the pump on the footboard. Connect the hose, inflate fully, then inflate the side bolsters. Set the patient’s weight or comfort level before placing the patient. Check that the bed’s side rails, if used, still sit high enough above the taller surface.
Care
Wipe the cover with a mild disinfectant and let it dry. Change the pump filter on schedule and inspect cells, bolsters and hoses regularly.
What’s Included
Comfort Zone mattress with built-in air perimeter, cover and digital pump, in the size you choose.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a low air loss mattress with bolsters?
It is a powered air mattress with raised air bolsters built into the long sides. The bolsters define the edge of the bed so a patient is less likely to roll or slide out, while the mattress itself provides alternating pressure and low air loss therapy for pressure ulcers.
Can the patient still get out of bed?
Yes. The perimeter is open in the mid-section for egress and ingress, and each side’s bolster inflates and deflates on its own in about 10 seconds, so staff can lower one side for a transfer and raise it again after.
Is a built-in air perimeter a restraint?
No. It defines the edge of the surface without holding the patient in, which is why many facilities use it for fall risk patients in place of full side rails. Follow the patient’s care plan.
Which size do I need?
CZ36-BIP is 36″ x 80″ x 8″ for standard hospital beds and patients up to 450 lbs. CZ42-BIP and CZ48-BIP are 42″ and 48″ wide, 80″ long and 10″ high for bariatric beds, from the Comfort Zone bariatric series rated for 1,000 lbs.
What therapy does it provide?
The same as the Comfort Zone series: alternating pressure across 20 cells, 8 ventilated low air loss cells, a static mode, and a pillow section where the top 3 cells stay still. Medacure designs it for the prevention, treatment and management of pressure ulcers up to Stage IV.
What if the power fails?
The cell-on-cell design keeps air in the lower 4″ of each cell so the patient does not bottom out, and the pump sounds a power failure alert.
Do I need side rails as well?
That depends on the patient and the care plan. The air bolsters are designed to reduce the need for confining rails, but some patients still need rails for repositioning. Ask your clinician.
Does it include the pump?
Yes. It is a complete system: mattress with built-in air perimeter, cover and the Comfort Zone digital pump.

Shipping & Returns
Shipping & Return Policy
At MedCare Mobility, we understand that purchasing medical and mobility equipment is an important decision. Our goal is to make the ordering, delivery, and return process as clear and straightforward as possible.
Because many of the products we offer are large, specialized, or shipped directly from manufacturer and distributor warehouses, shipping and return requirements may vary somewhat by product and brand. The policy below explains what you can generally expect when ordering from MedCare Mobility.
Shipping & Order Processing
We ship medical and mobility equipment to customers throughout the United States. Orders are processed as quickly as possible, and tracking information is provided once available.
Processing Time
Most in-stock orders are processed within approximately 1–3 business days. Processing may include order verification, warehouse preparation, packaging, and coordination with the manufacturer or distributor.
Some specialty equipment, made-to-order products, oversized items, or products shipping directly from a manufacturer may require additional processing time. Any estimated processing or lead time shown on an individual product page should be considered part of the expected fulfillment timeframe for that item.
Transit & Delivery Time
Once shipped, many standard orders arrive within approximately 3–7 business days. Larger medical equipment, freight shipments, specialty products, and certain manufacturer-direct orders may require additional transit time.
Tracking information will generally be emailed once the shipment has been processed by the carrier. If you have questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us at info@medcaremobility.com.
Alaska, Hawaii & Special Shipping Areas
Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain remote or limited-access areas may be subject to additional shipping charges. If an additional charge is required after your order is reviewed, we will contact you before proceeding whenever additional payment is necessary.
Freight & Oversized Equipment
Hospital beds, patient lifts, large recliners, ramps, and other oversized medical equipment may ship by freight rather than standard parcel service. Unless a specific delivery service is stated on the product page or order, freight delivery does not automatically include inside delivery, assembly, installation, or removal of packaging.
30-Day Return Policy
We want you to feel comfortable ordering from MedCare Mobility. Most eligible products may be returned when a return is requested within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions and exclusions outlined below.
Eligible products generally include:
- Electric and power wheelchairs
- Manual and lightweight wheelchairs
- Mobility scooters
- Walkers and rollators
- Patient lifts
- Wheelchair ramps
- Hospital and homecare beds
- Eligible medical mattresses
- Geriatric and medical recliner chairs
- Overbed tables
- Bathroom benches and shower chairs
- Other eligible medical and mobility equipment
Return eligibility can vary by manufacturer and product type. Products specifically identified as non-returnable, custom, made-to-order, or otherwise subject to special return terms are governed by those terms.
Return Authorization
Please contact us before shipping any product back. Returns must first be approved and issued a Return Authorization (RA) and the appropriate return shipping address.
You may request a return by emailing info@medcaremobility.com or contacting our customer service team through the live chat on our website.
Please do not return merchandise to an address shown on the original shipping label unless specifically instructed to do so. Many products ship directly from manufacturer or distributor warehouses, and the correct return location may be different from the original shipping location.
Condition of Returned Merchandise
To qualify for a return and refund, the product must be returned:
- In brand-new and unused condition
- In its complete original manufacturer packaging
- With all manuals, components, hardware, accessories, and included materials
- Without damage, modification, assembly wear, stains, odors, or other signs of use
- In resalable condition upon inspection by the receiving warehouse or manufacturer
We strongly recommend keeping the original box, pallet, protective materials, and packaging until you are certain that you intend to keep the equipment. Large medical equipment can be difficult or impossible to return safely without its original packaging.
Restocking Fees
Approved returns are subject to a mandatory restocking fee, generally ranging from 15% to 20% of the applicable product price. The exact restocking percentage varies depending on the manufacturer, brand, and type of equipment being returned.
These restocking charges are assessed to us by the manufacturer or distributing warehouse when merchandise is returned. MedCare Mobility does not add the fee simply as a return penalty; when the manufacturer requires the charge, we must pass the applicable amount through as part of processing the return.
If you would like to know the applicable restocking percentage for a particular product before ordering, please contact us and we will be happy to help whenever that information is available from the manufacturer.
Return Shipping & Shipping Charges
The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with the order when making a standard return.
Customers are responsible for arranging for the approved merchandise to be returned to the return address provided with the Return Authorization. In certain cases, we may be able to provide a prepaid return label or coordinate return transportation for your convenience. When provided, the applicable shipping cost may be deducted from the final refund.
Because some medical equipment is oversized or requires freight transportation, prepaid labels or carrier call tags may not be available for every product. Our customer service team will provide the available return instructions when your return is authorized.
Non-Returnable Products
For health, hygiene, safety, customization, and manufacturer-policy reasons, certain products are not eligible for standard returns.
We currently do not accept returns on:
- Parts & accessories
- Wheelchair cushions and support accessories
- Patient lift slings
- Custom or made-to-order products
- Products specifically identified as non-returnable on the product page
If a non-returnable product arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us promptly. Non-returnable status does not prevent us from assisting with a legitimate shipping damage, defect, warranty, or fulfillment issue in accordance with the applicable manufacturer and carrier procedures.
Damaged or Incorrect Orders
We take shipping damage seriously and will work with you to help resolve legitimate delivery issues.
If your product arrives damaged, please notify MedCare Mobility within 48 hours of delivery. Whenever possible, retain the shipping carton, pallet, packaging materials, and the product exactly as received and take clear photographs of the packaging and any visible damage.
Reporting damage promptly is important because carriers and manufacturers have limited timeframes for filing freight and shipping claims.
If you receive an incorrect product or believe there is a manufacturer defect, please contact us before returning or disposing of any merchandise or packaging so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.
Refused Deliveries
Please contact us before refusing a delivery unless the shipment has obvious significant freight damage and the carrier is documenting the damage at delivery.
A shipment that is refused for reasons unrelated to verified shipping damage may be treated as a standard return. Applicable restocking and shipping charges may therefore be deducted from the refund.
Return Shipping Deadline
Once a return has been approved and return instructions or a return label have been issued, the merchandise must be shipped within 72 hours unless MedCare Mobility provides different instructions in writing.
This is particularly important when a return is approaching the end of the applicable return period. Returns shipped outside the authorized timeframe may be refused by the manufacturer or warehouse and may no longer qualify for a refund.
Refund Processing
Refunds are processed after the returned merchandise has been received and inspected by the applicable warehouse or manufacturer and the return has been confirmed to meet the return requirements.
The applicable restocking fee, shipping charges associated with the order, and any other authorized return-related charges will be deducted from the amount eligible for refund.
If returned merchandise is used, damaged, incomplete, missing original packaging or components, or otherwise returned in a condition that prevents the manufacturer or warehouse from accepting it as new and resalable merchandise, the return may be refused or the refund may be reduced in accordance with the manufacturer’s assessment.
Custom & Made-to-Order Products
Products identified as custom, configured, made-to-order, special-order, or manufactured specifically for the customer cannot generally be canceled once production or manufacturer processing has begun and are not eligible for standard returns.
For custom products, cancellation may only be possible during the initial processing period and before production or customization begins. Because production schedules vary by manufacturer, we encourage customers to contact us immediately if a change is required.
If a custom product arrives damaged or has a legitimate manufacturing defect, we will work with the manufacturer to pursue the appropriate resolution, replacement components, repair, or other available remedy under the applicable manufacturer policy or warranty.
Questions Before Ordering?
Medical equipment can vary considerably in size, configuration, compatibility, and intended use. If you are unsure whether a product will work for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before placing your order.
Our team is happy to help review product specifications, dimensions, options, compatibility, and available manufacturer information so you can make a more informed purchasing decision and reduce the possibility of needing a return.
For shipping, return, or product questions, contact us at info@medcaremobility.com or speak with us through the live chat on our website.
